Drew Brees hates his mom?
AUSTIN (AP) - New Orleans Saints' quarterback Drew Brees has asked his mother to stop using his picture in TV commercials touting her candidacy for a Texas appeals court.

In commercials running on Austin stations, Mina Brees had been using a picture of her son in the uniform of his former team, the San Diego Chargers, to emphasize her ties to football.
"I think the major point here is that my mother is using me in a campaign, and I've made it known many times I don't want to be involved," Drew Brees said Monday.

Mina Brees, an Austin attorney, is running as a Democrat for a spot on Texas' 3rd Court of Appeals. She said replacement commercials that omit any mention of her son were taped last week and sent to stations on Friday.

She said she did not anticipate upsetting her son and that "everything in the ad was true."

She said her connection to football is relevant to her campaign because her father, a successful high school coach, used sports to teach her a strong work ethic that she would bring to the judicial bench.

Drew Brees, who won a state football championship with Westlake High School in suburban Austin, said he got no response from his mother when he first heard about the ads and called her to ask that she stop using them. His agent sent her a letter Oct. 20 threatening legal action, he said.

He called his relationship with his mother "nonexistent" after it crumbled six years ago when he refused to hire her as his agent.

Mina Brees said her son's allegations were a mischaracterization and that she had no intention of becoming his agent.

"I love Drew very much, and I'm very proud of him. But sometimes when people are following a career path, they change," she said.

Mina Brees also said she did not receive any messages asking her to exclude her son from her campaign.

Jill Fredericks, sales director for KVUE Television, said the station received a new version of Mina Brees' commercial late Friday. The old version stopped running Sunday and the new one was scheduled to begin Tuesday, she said.

Mina Brees is challenging incumbent Republican Justice David Puryear in next week's election. The appeals court reviews civil and criminal cases from 24 counties in Central and West Texas.

I haven't seen a lot of BJac, can he do anything other than run people over? Not to try to discredit him, but Tiki brings a lot of versatility.

With the success he seems to get doing that, does it really matter if he can do anything else?

Not to mention that he gets ol' Gap Tooth all hot and bothered when he runs around in those tight pants.

No, if we're risking a game or an injury to a mods favorite team, you are putting your entire GAF life on the line. There is no might, you are.
Them sounds like fighting words . . . or "Let's jump the Mets fan because my team lost in the first round" :D

And Tiki Barber out for 3 weeks from sunday means we don't have him for games against Chicago and Jacksonville, that's more than worth bannage.
You heard it here, folks: Wellington doubts the power of Tiki Barber. TURNCOAT!!!

Didn't I say that we don't stand a chance in those two games without Tiki?

Tam: I was just saying that it is possible if Konex cheers for the Giants. Let's save our trash talk for the week 11 topic, my friend. ;)

Picking up the occasional blitz, and catching the ball out of the backfield sometimes come in handy. :)

WTF Cloudy didn't say ANYTHING yet! EDIT: Jag talk saved until week 11.

Worst we can end up being is 11-5, at WORST. But what would be better, a decent draft pick and some experience for Tarvaris or a wildcard loss?

So the vikes are gonna go on a 7-2 run haha that's rich.

Our secondary is the only area where we're not injured at all. Brian Williams and Rashean are playing pretty damn well. Our only defensive concerns are the D-line with Stroud and Hayward out(Stroud temporarily for now) and Mike Pete being out for the season.

Williams in particular has been playing like a stud, they're the reason McNabb was getting sacked so much, coverage sacks all the way baby!

I don't usually make picks but why not. I threw in some interesting upsets. :)

Atlanta at Detroit - Vick will be exposed as a fraud in this game but will still win because the Lions are crap.
Cincinnati at Baltimore - Ocho Cinco won't be enough
Dallas at Washington - Washington has no offense and TO is gettin hot
Green Bay at Buffalo - Favre will pull one out
Houston at N.Y. Giants - Carr will feel like a mack truck hit him after the many sacks in the game
Kansas City at St. Louis - LJ is playing out of his mind
Miami at Chicago - There will be no repeat of Miami saving their undefeated season this time
New Orleans at Tampa Bay - Brees had a bad game but should snap back
Tennessee at Jacksonville - Tenn just sucks
Minnesota at San Francisco - I hate MN after what they did to hass go SF!
Cleveland at San Diego - LT on the field alone could beat the browns
Denver at Pittsburgh - Rawfulsburger should have another stellar 4 pick day
Indianapolis at New England - Can Peyton beat Brady? I don't think so.
Oakland at Seattle - No MVP, No Pro-bowl QB, Lots of injuries...no problem it's the raiders.

There's only one game left on the schedule that we've got absolutely no shot at. The rest are very realistic wins. But I think we'll finish 9-7.

@ San Fran
Green Bay
@ Miami
Arizona
@ Chicago
@ Detroit
New York B
@ Green Bay
St Louis

if you honestly doubt a 7-2 run you are possibly the most ****ing ridiculous person I've ever met. Enjoy that custom title for another 9 days buddy

Wow you sure turned up the heat with your vulgarity. Must have hit a nerve. You aren't going to the playoffs. Just get over yourself.

We have a better chance than the other 2 legit teams in the wildcard race, ass. Enjoy Seneca and gimpy Alexander. You're not going to the playoffs either. Get over myself? It's not like I'm going to the playoffs.

edit: Oh, and I left you an escape route, I'm a nice guy. You could say you didn't know what our schedule was, or that you were being sarcastic. There is always a way out, my friend!

I don't need an escape route. Your team will not go 7-2 to end the season and they will not make the playoffs. End of story.

Jacobs has speed and some cutback skills but his main strength is his size and power and he uses it...a lot. He will probably only last 6 years until he gets too worn out but he has the promise to be a good back for the Giants in those years

maynerd: I'd expect 6-3 or 5-4 for the Vikings, but 7-2 is hardly laughable. Stop being an idiot. It's not like he's acting like a 9ers fan and declaring their victory over the Bears.

Thing is though, the Vikings have to hope for a wild card slot, and competition for those are gonna be rough this year. Eagles, Cowboys, Falcons, Vikings, Rams, and Panthers(maybe) all have a shot.

But talking about said conversation in #ga will take on gigantic hilarious levels. Was Konex born with some sport related devil numbers on him or something, like 62? It's too much, man, TOO MUCH.
I think I've figured out the root of Konex's curse. Basically, Konex roots for players, not teams, which is the worst thing any sports fan can do. Because of this, ANY team Konex bandwagons on tends to fail because the sports gods want to teach us all a lesson, and that is don't follow the player, follow the team. I think until Konex learns this lesson, the sports gods will continue to punish him.

To be fair, you guys did lose to Buffalo. 7-2 is possible but it could go either way depending on how they recover.

The Cowboys main kickoff guy (Tyson Thompson) got injured yesterday with a broken ankle. He was injured after a late hit on the sidelines.

Az Hakim was recently released by the Lions. I remember him being a beast with the Rams, and all we need for him is to return kickoffs. Do you think he'd be a good fit in that position? Did he fumble a lot? I don't seem to remember.

google rams @ saints, wild card game, 2000. look up az hakim punt return. you will have your answer.

dont u mean the seahawks? because they sure as hell arent winning the nfc west this year

San Francisco is coming back and winning the NFC West. The Worst Division in Football (TM).

Shouldn't our schedule be a little easier then this? We played 3 Legit Conference teams (SD, Chi-town, Philly), and last year we were one of the worst teams. 2nd half of the season looks a little better, and Vernon is coming back in 2 weeks, against the Seahawks.

The sad part though, is that we will give up 250+ yards to any quarterback playing against us.

i fixed it for you

seriously, our defense is confusing. we don't blitz, but someone is always open by 10 yards. im tired of our bend-then-break defense. i know our defense is low on talent, but 41 points in the half is a little ridiculous. i know our offense isn't really helping, but damn the D isn't helping our young offense either. derek smith is slow and always out of position, jeff ulbrich is the same. manny lawson shows promise and has the physical tools, but he isn't experienced enough to compete at a high level.

our offense, while improved, is still a problem. too inconsistent. if we had a defense like the bears or bucs we would be in the thick of the playoffs. but right now our offense can't carry us. i think we could win on any given sunday, but i don't see one game on the schedule i feel confident in winning or even staying competitive in. even jon kitna is going to tear us up as far as i can see.

Cincy will upset Baltimore this week, mark my words. It won't be a blowout, but it will be a Cincy victory!

yeah, niners vs minnesota is such an obvious loss for the vikings it aint even funny.

No, because the Panthers have to produce the defense they used to be known for first, or they'll continue to barely win the games they don't choke away. Their schedule isn't getting any easier and they already have 4 losses. Either they wake up during the bye week, or they aren't joining the party.

Seattle should have Alexander back for the next game against St. Louis at home and Hasselbeck should return the week after, and looking at the two schedules, I see Seattle coming out with more wins than St. Louis.

Eagles | W. Peterson changes name to W. James
Tue, 31 Oct 2006 20:56:39 -0800

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles CB Will Peterson has changed his name to William James.

...Ok

New name for a fresh start! Will JAMES will be back to pro-bowl form!

You know whats funny guys. Its week 9 and Bush is still Deuce's backup. Looks like Deuce might send another highly regarded back packing in a season or 2.

Trade him to Houston, Bush can back up Lundy

I think we have a decent chance this week, considering we're facing Sad Johnson and we're at home.. The Vikings defense CAN play when inspired but Alex has played well against some better defenses so I'm not TOO worried--that is if we're not down 28+ by half time.

It's hard to tell you we won't be though.

We're finally getting cable on Thursday; We've had an HDTV for 6 months and are finally getting it connected and the niners game is in HD. Yesss

But man, if we let Sad Johnson rip us apart, we seriously may not win another game.

Vick's accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. But, I never understood before why the Falcons didn't throw the ball more. Not because I thought Vick was some superhuman talent, but because they have the best running game in the league and their play action should be ridiculous. It would start making you guess on defense, and once the defense it is all over.

The answer is probably that Mora is a horrible coach.

Blah Blah Blah....it's a shame the Falcons will be in the playoffs while Big Ben and the Steelers watch it on tv.

It will be more of shame when the Falcons don't go far in the playoffs because they don't seem to have a very good coach.

You're right...what am I thinking. We're 5-2 and will probably be 7-2 heading into the Baltimore game, our coach must be horrible. We should hire Art Shell instead...:lol

Bionic's just bitter that his team got beat by us and then followed that up with a stinker at Oakland. They have the same record as the Browns!

A team can have a great record even with bad coaching.

Considering how talented the Falcons are and how consistent they play at certain aspects of the game, Mora obviously knows how to prepare them. But, from the very little I have seen, he doesn't seem to be the greatest tactical mind. Maybe that isn't Mora's fault though and it is the fault of the offensive coordinator, I really don't know (or care). But, I was saying for the last 2 or 3 years that I didn't understand why the Falcons didn't pass the ball more to put the pressure on other team's defenses. Just seemed obvious with how well they run the ball. I also remember the horrible clock management of the Falcons in the Steelers game. Just makes me wonder.

I will pay close attention to the Falcons if they make the playoffs and then we can see who was right about their coaching.
