I was at that GPhoria thing last night and I got the chance to play Need for Speed on the 360. How was it?
Nifty.
It was framey as fuck, because of course it's still early (see the 1up/360 thread for the stupidest shit currently on the forum), but resolution (in spite of the fact it was on an EDTV plasma) and detail were nice. Lots of bloom (which I like, it's one of the few effects overused in games that actually approximates a real-life thing) makes for a very non-EA look. In fact, the city's tones, colors and light were very reminiscent of Half Life 2.
The (Xbox one) controller I used, was uncentered (turned on with the stick pressed in some direction) so controls were wack (Y to shift up) but it was really, really promising. Had the Underground feel, but with more realistic gearing and steering. Crashes were clearly not implemented yet, but if I had to summarize, I'd say it was following Burnout for feel.
Also, the trees were awesome.
Also, King Kong rocks, and I met Shatner. So now I can die. SHATNER you weak fucks.
