“I think he would like to get traded and…I’m not sure this came out of the blue that as soon as he didn’t make the team right away….I think this has always been in his mind. I haven’t spoken to Marty a ton the past few years but I used to know him well before and his wife is from the Connecticut area and he always talked about wanting to get back East, somewhere like the Rangers to play. I was kind of surprised when he signed his last deal with Tampa Bay because of that, maybe Stamkos was a major factor in that. I always thought he wanted to end his career up this way somehow and so, I would just be guessing but I have a feeling that it was already in his mind that he was working towards that and then when this happened it may have pushed him over the edge. The question is going to be with Yzerman and if he doesn’t get some fair value, this is a predicament because you are a team that is suddenly and somewhat surprisingly a legitimate contender in the East. I think that if he doesn’t get traded then he will be fine because we showed the way that he played after the snub that he will be just fine but I kind of think that he would like to go and I don’t think it’s changed that he was on the team.” (James Duthie on TSN 1050′s Macko and Cauz)
Given what he's put up with, and now that they're finally becoming competitive, I personally doubt that's part of it.I wonder if it's as simple as the relationship with Yzerman for St. Louis. I guess it would sting if your GM names your badly injured teammate to the roster and not you, but to uproot completely? It makes me think that either the bad blood is a lot older than the Olympic snub, or that Tampa's chosen trajectory over the next couple of seasons is way out of sync with St. Louis' expectations.
HFboards?I thought I read somewhere where somebody said that they were surprised he signed his current extension because he had always wanted to finish his career closer to home. Or something like that. I'll to find the link. Don't quote me on that.

HFboards?
Think of it this way... He's trying to jump start Bert with a few easy goals or assists for trade bait. Once the trade deadline hits, he's gone or back on the 4th line.Nah, Bab's gets too much heat, he is a pretty decent coach and knows what he is doing....
Red Wings lines for today
Franzen-Dats-Bert
Abby-Helm-Alfie
Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco
Miller-Andy-Nyquist
SCREW YOU BABCOCK, SCREW YOU. PUTTING NYQUIST ON THE BOTTOM LINE AND HAVING BERT ON THE FIRST!!!
Did I mention I am happy hockey is back?

Which kind?Phil's thinking about fish tacos
The fact that we're playing the queens tonight is bittersweet, with Johnson out our defense is a wet piece of toilet paper held together by Jan Hejda and no one else. Hopefully Barrie has a good game.
What a clusterfuck, and MSL backs Yzerman into a corner with 0 negotiating power.Bob McKenzie said:my understanding is that St.Louis asked for a trade, still wants a trade and is willing to only go to the Rangers.....Yzerman does not feel obliged by the deadline. This could drag into the summer
I can tell you this, the Canucks are aggressively listening on Kesler and Edler........If the Canucks can find a C that's 20-25 that is a 1B or 2A in a package for Kesler then they'll move him

All I hope for is that Gillis isn't trading for a playoff run because we aren't having one. Trading Edler for prospects/picks would be perfect. I'm a huge fan of Kesler and would hate to see him go unless a team overpays with picks/prospects, then I MIGHT be okay with it.
Seems like a bit of an underpayment for Backstrom.Niklas Backstrom for Ryan Kesler.

4 years older then Backstrom, and has had the shit kicked out of him with injuries, while Backstrom remains a PPG player and one of the best play makers in the league. If Kesler hadn't dealt with so much punishment in the past few seasons then it would be more in his favour. Just my opinion, I'm pretty averse to taking on older players with injury problems.Selke winner, one of the best PK'ing forwards in the league that also scores.
Unless you were trying to be a troll.

EDIT: He'll also more than make up for Ovie's lack of effort.

Its fun getting back here today, fun skating with all the guys youre used to playing with. Sometimes you go over there to Russia, and it can be a (benefit) because you realize how good you have it over here and how exciting it is to come to the rink everyday with good teammates and good coaches and a good team, most importantly - Patrick Kane
