If Phaneuf were traded I'd expect a Luongo-type return, which is not much. No one wants that contract.

I think he can still get an asset or two in return, especially if there are multiple interested teams. I don't remember by whom (McKenzie?), but it was said that there are a few Western Conference teams who have shown serious interest. His value was probably highest pre-extension, though. I'm not expecting anything more than a late 1st/high 2nd or a B prospect at this point.

That's fine. Getting cap room is enough.

The people saying we should move Phaneuf for Richards are insane. Phaneuf is a good #3 or #4 D. You don't pay a 2nd pair guy $7 mil, but you don't need to take back a 4th liner making $6 mil to move him.

Exactly. I don't want anything to do with Richards unless we're sending Clarkson back. He has arguably the second-worst contract in the league right now. Gardiner probably still has a lot of value and Dion isn't an anchor either.

Apparently Aaron Ekblad and Johnny Gaudreau have been added to the All-Star Game lineup to replace Crosby and Johnson.

Clearly couldn't be called an All-Star Game without JOHNNY HOCKEY.

"@Hope_Smoke: McKenzie "I've heard all the talk about Crouse & I'd be really shocked if he isn't a really good player in the NHL""

"@Hope_Smoke: McKenzie (RE Lawson Crouse) "who's got a big body who can play the NHL game & still potentially score 30-40 goals""

@Hope_Smoke: McKenzie "...the offensive #s he's put up for his age/experience are relatively positive""

Interesting thing to say considering he never scored 30-40 in the OHL.

I think the kid will end up having a Blake Wheeler type of career. Wheeler was actually picked in the top 5 in 2004.

I personally won't pick him in top 10. Seems like a 10-15 kind of pick.

I'm reading a post on PPP right now about how Clarkson is a worse playmaker than Frazer McLaren.

Frazer McLaren, a healthy scratch for most of this season in the AHL.

Steven Stamkos says similar to Kane and Toews, he envisions potentially signing an extension in July one year out before he becomes UFA.

Stamkos says he loves it in Tampa, team has a great future and he wants to part of it
Shocking news.

Cool, I'm actually using my friends tonight for the first time on my helmet and am just using a VHB mount to hold the camera, it should hold pretty well..
Guy on my team strapped one to his helmet in a game this year, but the refs told him he had to take it off cause it wasn't "safe". Which was total BS since the thing was in the plastic shell and he had it ziptied to his helmet, it would've been almost impossible to break or detach.

Sucks that there will be no Avalanche player at the all star game, now. Though Johnson wasn't likely to do anything with the skills competition which is the only good part anyway. The worst thing is he'll have to miss a regular season game now even if he was ready to go.

Supposedly Phaneuf + Gardiner + mid round pick has been offered to the Kings for Richards + LA's 1st in 2015 + Zykov or Kempe...
Lmao

I'm assuming Leafs fans saying they wouldn't mind this never see LA play. Richards is terrible with an equally terrible contract and that's likely to be a late first. What a garbage trade.

I'm sick of Kessel, so I won't care if he gets picked last tonight. He'll deserve it, in fact, for his lackadaisical attitude.

The draft used to be interesting, but now I don't really care about it. I may watch the Skills Comp, though. The All-Star games are usually shitty themselves.

Richards and Clarkson on the same line :LOL

This pretty much sums it up :lol

only way Leafs should ever get Richards is if they are sending Clarkson back. I think that would be a bad trade for LA, but who knows, maybe both teams think a change of scenery could be mutually beneficial (probably not)

Not before we give them Semin!

This would be even better. Clarkson for Semin pls.

I haven't watched Richards enough to accurately comment, but I always thought he was good. Maybe that was before or something.

I want to see Phaneuf (terrible captain, waste of cap space at his price), Gardiner (terrible hockey IQ, should try forward), Clarkson (he's doing better, but still too much money by a longshot) and Kessel (lackadaisical, not a team player) gone.

There are few players I'd really miss, but I'd get over it. I'm just so fed up with this fucking team. Santorelli is honestly my favourite Leaf right now.

Richards would be paid less, which is the plus, but I'm scared about them taking on other big contracts when a rebuild is necessary. And one from the ground up, not a Burkie's bandaid.

Kessel has the most assists on the team... doesn't that make him a team player by definition?

most of the criticism of Kessel is pretty stupid if you ask me

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't Richards have one of those cap-circumventing contracts? Wouldn't the Flyers/Kings/Leafs (if he's traded) incur a shared cap penalty if he retires before its end?

I think you listen to too much Toronto sports radio

If we trade Phaneuf, it won't happen unless we get some salary back especially with a team such as the Kings.

Not to mention, Phaneuf has a limited NTC so the number of trading partners becomes lower.

If you can make a deal work, and if it includes Mike Richards, then you probably have to do it (assuming the Leafs management really want to move on from Phaneuf).

Salary will have to come back, but I honestly believe that Nonis (or whoever is GM in the off-season) can do a lot better than Mike Richards.

Not really.

The structure of the deal doesn't have any bogus years attached on (with $1 million salary). He's being paid $5.75 million in salary in his last year.

Ah, ok. I thought he was part of that group.

He's underrated. Hugely underrated.

I'm hopeful the voices of the analytics people in the front office will be heard. I've been saying this for a couple months now, they should trade Phaneuf for the cap room to sign Franson.

(edit: I read an article a while ago analyzing why Franson is underappreciated by traditional scouting methods and the "eye test", I can try to find it for you if you're interested. His analytics are among the best on the team, AND he puts up a lot of points.)

I've probably read the same articles. I just think he's a case where we're seeing his best years now. He's a PP specialist with mobility issues that are going to only get worse as he ages. Hopefully the team can get a couple of good picks for him.

I haven't watched Richards enough to accurately comment, but I always thought he was good. Maybe that was before or something.

You haven't watched Richards or paid any attention to him at all, but you think he'd be a good pick up for the team?
