NHL Lockout With Your Cock Out |OT|

The reporters are probably in hive mind mode.

"This guy says a deal is close! I should too! Let's be optimistic!"

"Hey, if those two sources are optimistic, I gotta get on that train too."

"I don't wanna look like an idiot by missing this story, so I'll say something hopeful too. At least if we're wrong, we're all wrong."

Modern sports journalism: BS on a platter.

Am I the only one who doesn't believe the majority of the reporters on Twitter and their "sources"? This includes the big name guys too.
Their sources are just strategically feeding them bits and pieces of information for bargaining and public image purposes. I wouldn't take anything said by these "insiders" completely seriously, and I wouldn't be surprised if most of the issues they've been ranting on during their tv spots (ie Doug McLean regarding pensions) were never serious ones.

"There are 8 players in total's meetings, per the NHLPA: Campoli, Darche, Doan, A. Ference, Hainsey, Mayers, Parros & St. Louis"

I love how two scrubs who won't play again (Darche & Campoli) have been so heavily involved in this entire process.

Darche is one of the few educated hockey players so it makes sense to have at least one person with a brain there.

:(

I still think this gets done tonight.

Pension done
Cap moved to 64M
Variance at 30%
10 year CBA agreed

There is nothing left except for contract length.

its an interesting point, being raised in a capitalist culture is going to ingrain some respect/desire for great wealth that could instill some 'right wing' views.... but im sure you can see the slip when it comes to dealing with a group of millionaires playing a game to factory workers making 10$/hr to survive.
Of course it is different, I don´t expect anyone to feel bad for the players. But valuing the success in the players negotiations simply by how much they get in their own pocket can be transferred over to both situations. And if you indeed value every labour dispute like that, unions will forever be doomed.

Another thing that I guess is irrelevant for how much the workers get paid is the complete and disgusting disdain for people of lower education. Being less educated is something that is frowned upon, and somehow that fact makes the players stupid. And since it makes them stupid they don´t deserve help(from lawyers etc) in the negotiations with the owners(who are much more well versed in situations like this).

Actually pro sports are in a bit reversed in this sense. Right now you see more "right wing" people as being pro union in this matter because things like a salary cap, revenue sharing are not a "free market" and the league is more socialist for imposing these regulations and trying to spread the wealth of bigger markets.

There is however, a two way street when it comes to unions. Unions are not only to give bargaining power to workers but to help in the long term job stability if its members. A good union has to keep the company health in its negotiations to enure jobs for its members. That's why with the American auto industry the UAW's concessions were integral to company health and recovery. You cannot be an effective union when your members are laid off.
The same thing is confusing me as usual, I always have a hard time to understand what liberal means in American politics. The "liberals" I see in US politics tend to be the ones who are supporting health care for everyone etc, so I usually don´t see them an free market supporters.:S I am simply thinking that the left wing in the US is more like a European left wing.

I completely agree with the second part, a union have to work for the overall needs of its members and not just higher salaries.

I want to hope so bad. I really do. It's like this little excited child inside me that I have to keep suppressing because the last few times I let him out I got burned.

I have to stick with team nope. For my sanity.

I don't think the phrase 'still lots of work to do' as ever been tweeted as much before. It's become a disclaimer.

Has anyone else read the stuff about the Leafs being, ahem, well-positioned for the new CBA universe? I know it's just bored journos playing to the league's largest and most desperate fanbase, but I want to believe it's true!

IMO, the Sens are probably on the verge of another solid 5-6 span around the top of the East. Dammit.

Clearly more evidence against the PA's negotiation strategy.

Evillore will have to change it to 200 replies per page so we can fit all of Solo's "wife beater syndrome" comments, along with the rest of Team Nope.

Wasn't this shit supposed to be "done" earlier on this week? We've been hearing, "It's done! Season starts in two weeks!" For ages now.

No point in having a season anyway. Crosby will just win the scoring title and the Penguins will win the Cup. Forgone conclusion, people.

Why do the Nope crowd want to win so badly?
You can tell who the true fans are I guess...

You can be a fan and still be angry and think this whole thing is ridiculous. I don't want them to save the season if we're going to go through the same garbage in 10 years.
