NHL Lockout With Your Cock Out |OT|

come in my shame circle
From what they were saying on TSN a few minutes ago seems in that proposal to trade cap space would have a...cap on it like say you can only trade or take 40% of the cap space as maximum.

A team like Phoenix can demand a 1st rounder from NY to accept Redden cap hit or something.
Yeah that would be terrible. Especially for the teams that aren't that rich but still able to pay up to the current roof.

EDIT: I hope you made up 40%, or 40 percent of what? Like being able to higher your roof by 40% through multiple trades?

I'm guessing the NHLPA make a few tweaks, counter-proposal, owners retweak and we get a resolution on the deadline.

What the hell is this 'hope' and 'optimism' shit I'm feeling in my loins right now?

Initial reaction from players is not great. They still see themselves losing on revenue split and contract terms. Want more info on...

revenue-sharing formula. Also concerned about escrow for next year even with any losses guaranteed as a deferral.

They do, however, see it as a start. Will be interesting to see what NHLPA comes back with.

Dat greed.

What did I tell you about watching porn during CBA negotiations? This deal will collapse and you'd know it if you didn't have your thumb up your butt.

Probably a bite from one of Australia's millions of poisonous animals.

One issue pointed out: Entry-level deals: 2yrs. Max contract: 5 yrs. No free agency until after 8 yrs. That really clamps on 2nd contracts.

That should be interesting. Assuming you do really well during your ELC and 5-year deal, you have one more RFA year yet your team will likely want you to sign another 5-year term.

Don't have a problem with the players being not "thrilled" this is a negotiation after all. The fact of the matter is we're way closer to the magic combination, judging from what we have heard of whats in the new CBA offer. Unless there is some batshit crazy clause where Bettman gets a free orgy with all the players wives/girlfriends I think we have the framework of a deal.

Frankly it's funny how these things turn. the NFL,NBA, and NHL all had the same gloom and doom talk about losing a season etc. These always shift so quickly that I would think that we'll get hockey at some point in Nov.

Never underestimate the stubbornness of Bettman and Fehr though.

not sure if posted

per Dreger

In other words, a multi-year deal with an AAV of $10M would on a year by year basis not go up or down by more than $500K.

Not only is NHL proposing 5 year limit on player contract length, it's proposing the yearly salary variance can't be more than 5 per cent

true, but the players are going to lose anyway, if they scoff at this it's only going to get worse for them. It's time to make an honest counter.

Didn't you also say that the players will not give up any of the revenue split (because"why would they")? And that there wouldn't be a lockout at all?

Friggin East Coasters. ;)

I said they'd fight a 50/50 split, which they are, but the salary protections should put this one over the top. And honestly if we get 82 games I'm claiming a "pretty much correct" stance on that second one.

Let's not act like this deal would make life "better" for the players. We all knew they were gonna have to make concessions.... again. But the question was whether the owners could provide a sensible baseline to work with.

Personally if every five years I got told I had to take a 20% pay cut I'd be pissed whatever field of work I was in.

Regular people generally don't get the raises some players do either.

I was just about to post about Slap Shot as well. What a great movie, but yeah, saw it was censored, boo.

I'm watching Baseball

Will be interesting to see if the NHL's offer was really a fair one or a well-orchestrated ploy to put all the public heat on the PA. Framing their offer as "a proposal to start the season by Nov. 2" is a bullshit tactic. That's like a mugger pulling a gun on you and saying, "just give me your money now so you can get home in time to watch 30 Rock."

Hey fans, look at this super-fair proposal by us!
50/50! How can you get more fair than that?
Start the season by Nov. 2! You like hockey, don't you?
(but never mind all this nasty stuff on pages 2-504 totally in our favor)

Of course I'm still deeply cynical of the NHL at this point. Why shouldn't I be?

Sadly the Johnstown Chiefs are no more who inspired the movie and team (or at least was shot there). I saw a game with them against the Walleye in their last season. Also is the hometown team of pretty much my entire family on my mother's side, also had a great uncle who worked at the arena.
