NHL Off-Season 2016 |OT| My prospects are better than yours

I've been trying to avoid Laine and Puljujarvi highlights

The leafs are cursed and won't win a lotto pick

One of them will probably end up in Buffalo or Montreal and haunt us for the next 10-15 years
my man

i've been doing the same thing

matthews too, never intentionally watched a highlight video

laine on nylander's wing would be so fucking beautiful, it kills me that he's gonna go to winnipeg or calgary or something

i only watch highlights of dubois, chychrun, a. nylander etc. who we will actually get to pick, that's just what smart ppl do

If Claude is fired, do you guys think Bergevin will change his mind and fire Therrien?

There was a slight, fleeting, moment of hope, only lasted for a split second, before I came to my senses and realised we're not that lucky.

Better question, will Therrien be cheered, or booed, when he's introduced in the home opener next season?

It's basically 50/50, no? Or a little better that you will?

Picking 4th is fine. The whole thrill behind placing last is that 4th is the worst you can do. Your chances in the lottery are still only minimally better than the next team.

It's actually good for the Canucks, if we don't win a lottery pick, that the Leafs or Oilers (or BJs if they're ahead of us) do. Otherwise we can get pushed down into 6th or 7th.

Last place odds for winning a top 3 pick is something like 52%, and for second last are somewhere around 40% I think so naturally the devils will lose against us tonight.

Either way the leafs (and everyone else picking in the top 9 including the canucks) will get a good player, I'm not worried about that but with Mark Hunter's draft strategy it wouldn't shock me if they tried to move down from 4-5 to 7-9 and take someone like Tkachuk since the players in that range are all on the same tier more or less.

and I don't hate a player like Tkachuk but tbh I'm not crazy over him either.

Cape Breton-Saint John is on Rogers tv tonight in HD.

I'm recording it and will probably watch a bit to have a look at Dubois.

Ohh the NCAA final is starting now

North Dakota vs Quinnipiac
These commentators love ND

Hope Boeser has a good game.

Apparently Demko won the Mike Richter award (best NCAA goalie) and has told the Canucks he'll make a decision on college/pro in a couple weeks

Edit - mmm great entry by Boeser leading to the first goal

Can't say I agree with either call that led to that 5v3.

Plus I keep seeing a few people I know that are there in the crowd. Funny, because they constantly whine in classes about how they don't have money to go anywhere or do anything.

Domi and Ghost Bear will make the 23. Galchenyuk might even though he shouldn't, he's simply not good.

He's almost at an even +/- during his streak too despite 13 of his 16 points being ES. Only +5 more to go.

Yea you're totally right he hasn't been a defensive liability at all, total natural at C. Just elite.

As for points/60 in all situations, Galchenyuk is 34th (tied with Alex Ovechkin and Matt Duchene).

including tonight, Galchenyuk is 25th in NHL in points/60 between Kopitar and Seguin...

Galchenyuk - 22 years old, and 57 days - is the 3rd-youngest player to hit 30 goals in a season for the Habs behind Geoffrion and Richer.

Probably be posting here more than playoff thread. Don't have a horse in any race in the playoffs. Maybe Florida...just not Hawks or Kings.

Caggiula is going in hard

---------

Edit: I saw an interesting point raised. Pick 31 in the draft is quite valuable because it's the first pick of the 2nd day. You get a whole night to consider offers to trade down for any team that has a player they're targeting. Big opportunity to pick up added value.

Yep Colorado traded down from it last year and got a decent haul (two 2nds and a 6th). One of the 2nds was 39th overall.

Could see Mark Hunter doing the same thing.

Awful season.

I'm really glad they focused on the youth at least. Some promising signs. But with the exception of Boeser, Demko and 2016 #5 pick, there isn't much that isn't already on the team. If we can't get Matthews or one of the Fins, at least we can draft a promising dman, of which we have next to none.

Benning kinda scares me. He's had some good trades and I think he's drafted well (apart from Virtanen at #6), but Sutter/Sbisa/Dorsett/Granlund...sometimes he places value in such strange places. It's like he exclusively seeks out cheap early/mid-20s NHL-ready talent that other teams have given up on. All for a quick, middling rebuild that could really fizzle out, and slowly.

Save us, Matthews.

Edit -

To his credit, he did say:

"To get that pick (Hanifin), they would want Bo Horvat and I'm not interested in anything like that because we want our top prospects and I feel comfortable at No. 23 (Boeser)," Benning told Kuzma. "We're just starting to get some depth now with our young prospects and I don't want to give any of them up because they're further along on the development curve. I'm not willing to sacrifice the depth or our prospects pool."

Have the draft order rules been changed?

Here it says that conference finalists will no longer be automatically given picks 27-30. Only the Cup winner will pick 30th, the remaining picks will be given based on regular season standings.

I'm not sure if this page is up to date

beautiful nite leafs clinchin 4th pick

actually finish in last but with more points than last year, with a shitshow ahl roster. dat babcock

all dem tank ruining points nylander put up can now be looked upon fondly, didn't matter we still got that 30 gotta love it

this is crazy to me:
The Leafs actually finished with a better record than Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal and Winnipeg since Nov. 1. That brutal October was huge.
since november is what shocked me, the whole season except the first month

man, god bless bernier's awful october

this summer is going to be extremely interesting actually, and man i'm looking forward to next season even tho we're far off from being a playoff team. just so curious to see what the roster looks like. what will they do as far free agents. zaitsev? etc. who will willie's linemates be, like will jvr be on it or w/e. will they have a center that it makes sense to put willie on his wing to ease him into the nhl like most players do. all dem picks. are they actually going to try to actually be good, or will they not try too much to improve the roster at least another year. i think that question will be answered if they get a decent goalie, pouncing on a young goalie if one was somehow available is a no-brainer, but would they try to acquire some decent 29 year old goalie. i would prefer they not actually try to compete too much next year as far as signing older players etc., i'd prefer another top 8ish pick.

eeeh, interestin tymez tho

Ugh I hate mornings in which your throat has that feeling that you're starting to get sick.

Bless Fisherman's Friend though. That shit is strong.

Datsyuk to leave Wings after this season

Welp, I just woke up and now have tears in my eyes. God speed Magic Man, maybe the team will help send you out with a bang instead of a first round exit whimper...
Great article and it sucks for the Wings although he said he'd be willing to trade the contract to another team and the Wings should seriously consider that.

Definitely my favourite Wings players since their last Cup and it really is too bad he won't be there another year. I'm glad he had a great time there too and it's something we need to emulate in Toronto to make players happy.

Can confirm that Pierre Dorion will be named general manager of the Ottawa Senators this morning. Bryan Murray moves into advisory role.
