Originally formed by epik and then taken over by FightyF, The Mighty Dyacks were the first NeoGAF EASHL club. Despite being the most populated club to date, The Mighty Dyacks had the shortest lifespan. 50+ players took the ice for The Mighty Dyacks during the first season. Leading the charge were dominating physical specimen QVT, purg3, Marvie_3, ph33nix, FightyF, SnakeswithLasers, Dollar Taco, Phthisis, X26, and others. A flying V was attempted at least once by the club but it was a colossal, yet hilarious failure. Early EASHL play was a wild west of curve shots and terrible bounces, which spelled doom for The Mighty Dyacks. After posting a sub-.500 record, the team quietly disbanded a month into the season.

NHL 10 GAF EASHL thread

Season 2 of NeoGAF EASHL hockey saw the return of several members of The Mighty Dyacks. FightyF, having been permabanned from GAF, was unable to form the team. Marvie_3 stepped in and oversaw the creation of the new team, later named the NeoGAF Banhammers. The Banhammers started the season with 30+ players, down significantly from the 50+ the previous season.

Once again, the EASHL was dominated by cheese play and the cross crease was the cheese of choice. The Banhammers' numbers quickly dwindled to less than 10, with only Marvie_3, SnakeswithLasers, ph33nix, and peterb0y taking the ice most often. It was during these early months that it became known that ph33nix was incapable of changing the battery in a smoke detector, thus subjecting the rest of the club to weeks of beeping through his mic.

The club was joined by Hardyboy1224 in late November and Nozdeuce in late January and with the roster set, those 6 set off to finish their ultimate goal: finishing a month over .500. That goal was finally reached in April as they finished the month with a record of 33 wins and 31 losses. A movie was planned about the heroic struggles of a guido, an alcoholic, a rapist, a pothead, a racist, and a throat-punching prison guard, but to this day, only the trailer has seen the light of day.

In early June, after playing close to 1,050 games, the Banhammers finally called it quits for the season.

NHL 11 GAF EASHL thread

The 3rd season of NeoGAF EASHL hockey brought a lot of change to the club. The inclusion of custom jerseys forced the rest of the club to be subjected to hundreds of terrible jersey designs by both Marvie_3 and club newcomer, TheVisualizer. Only being able to have one game per club at a time meant that, in order to ensure playing time, the GAF club would be split into two teams. This turned out to be a disaster due to players on only one side showing up with any regularity. After uniting the club in late September, the team began to show improvement and by December the club was solidly in the Elite division. zsswimmer's fists were flying, Viz's dekes were going nowhere, and Marvie's ass was sore from sitting in the box, but the team kept getting better. Despite the improvement, playoff success eluded the club.

In mid-January, Viz officially retired for the first of many times. January also saw the successful return of Nozdeuce and SnakeswithLasers, the latter combining with Marvie and ph33nix for 16 points in his first game back. February finally saw a breakthrough in the playoffs. The club was in the Amateur division and completely dominated 4 weak teams to win an Amateur Championship. By outscoring their opponents by a combined 20-1, this group of five(Marvie_3, RS4-, zsswimmer, Nozdeuce, and SnakeswithLasers) brought home the first and only Championship the club would see that year.

Soon after, Viz returned and the club saw the debut of hotshot cheeser, Milly79. Despite improving enough to rejoin the elite ranks, the playoffs were a meat grinder for the club. Viz retired several more times and the club ceased play after the July playoffs. The final ranking for the club was #684 overall.

NHL 12 GAF EASHL thread

Season 4 of NeoGAF EASHL was our most successful, entertaining and drama filled to date. Carrying over the momentum of a strong finish to the NHL12 campaign, the core of the previous year's club returned and helped the Slot Cloggers off to a strong start where they were derailed in the September Pro playoffs only after the winning the 4th consecutive game only to see it voided by faceoff loopers in the waning seconds. The Slot Cloggers were forced to play a 5th game which they lost in agonizing fashion in double overtime. Despite this setback the club was able to rebound and posted winning records in all but two months, never finishing lower than the Pro division

Marvie_3 continued to add on to his all-time record for EASHL penalty minutes while also chipping in some goals here and there. TheVisualizer not to be outdone countered by setting his sights on the single-season giveaways record which he smashed with over 12,000 turnovers from his reckless playmaking. Nozdeuce reprised his role of as the master of "nothing in particular" while managing to retain his title as the "Club's Most Liked Player". zsswimmer managed to become an even worse fighter while becoming a great defenseman. Milly79 carried the the club on his shoulders early in the season with his goal scoring... mostly from cheese goals and his play was so godly that he was told to "come down off his pedestal" at one point. Finally, Revenant wowed the club with his many fluky GOTY candidates and also innovated the now famous "defensive-zone drop pass to no one".

There were plenty of new faces that debuted and made significant impacts as well. The least controversial was Red_Man who started the year off as an average depth defenseman. Through hard work, lots of late night poutine dinners and persevering possibly the worst internet connection in GAF EASHL history, he ended up the year as the club's top playmaker and Top 3 scorer. Blinding made his debut as well and carried on the Slamjaw legacy as a relentless forechecking machine that earned the EA Hitting Montage in almost every game he played. He also had quite a talent for shooting wide of the net and famously butted heads with Marvie in one of the year's many memorable dramas causing the club creator to "pull a Viz" and retire for a short time. Another new face that arrived in the middle of the year was moop1167 who made quite an impression on the club. Moop's affinity for never shutting the fuck up, explaining all of his motivations in exacting detail, and his dynamic "dangle and sauce at all costs" play style did not endear him to most of the club initially. After a few spats with club members, the Moop departed for another club aptly named "Bros. Inc" before returning to finish the season as a Slot Clogger. "The Moop" as he is generally referred to, also coined the phrase "7 Hole" which no human being had ever said before that day, constantly expressed his love of V-Necks and confessed that he saves his stats from each game in spreadsheets to track his individual greatness.

NHL12 also marked the return of key veterans from previous year's clubs including the "Miami Heat Lifelong" ph33nix, "Capcom fanboy" RS4-, "Perennial Lady Bing Nominee" SCHUEY F1, "Backhand Specialist" BigJonsson, "Silent But Deadly" SuperSonic1305, "Laughing-Gas Addict" Giant Robot, "Mr. OT" Hardyboy1224 and "Interim Player/Coach" SnakeswithLasers who all chipped in important minutes and made key contributions throughout the year. Other newcomers that saw significant game action included "Sarcastic Troublemaker" wsoxfan1214, the "Eccentric Videogame-Vixen Loving" Showstopper and his buddy "Pterodactyl" Vieirak. Several of Milly79's henchmen joined up throughout the year, most notably Swance and Delryk, and we can't forget about the self-proclaimed "VS Mode Champion of the World", ACES11.

Throughout all the drama, and there was plenty to go around including back and forth spats that got heated between Viz & Moop, Viz & Sox, Viz & Milly, Viz & Show, Viz & Aces, there's a pattern here... as well as the previously mentioned Marv & Blinding incident, the club managed to reach it's it's highest point in May when they captured their 1st playoff banner of the year winning the Pro Playoffs in dominating fashion led by Red_Man who wrote his name in the history books with a playoff run to remember totaling 9 goals and 11 assists in 4 games. Marvie_3, TheVisualizer, ShowStopper and ph33nix rounded out the lineup that night. Despite winning the Playoffs, in true EA fashion, our the accomplishment was not recognized fully as somehow we were not presented with a banner in the next month. The club continued to be active through the middle of August, finished near the Top 500 of the Elite division in their last two full months of activity, and ended up a respectable 819-493-90.

NHL 13 GAF EASHL thread #1
NHL 13 GAF EASHL thread #2

Season 5 of NeoGAF EASHL started with a two drastic changes. The 1st was that the roster was capped at a small number of gaffers to ensure continuity and to keep the quality of play above an acceptable level. This was the 1st year where people were turned away from the official club which resulted in 2 other GAF clubs being formed (COUNTING BETTMANS ZEROES & PUCK YOU IM DOING ME). COUNTING BETTMANS ZEROES challenged our club to 2 games and were utterly decimated and not heard from again. PUCK YOU IM DOING ME declined all challenges and were well-behaved little boys which surprised all of us after they initiated a lengthy shit-talking campaign before the game released. The other major change was a shake-up of the leadership with club founder Marvie_3 leaving the club permanently after a few weeks. TheVisualizer took over as the new dictator and ruled with an ironfist constantly torturing the club's peons with his Create-A-Jersey ideas and dry humor.

The offense was lead by Red_Man who returned and continued his meteoric rise from a soulless widowmaker into the club's most productive offensive player shattering almost all the club's season and single-game records. Red_Man more commonly known as "Legg-It" changed his diet and stopped splurging on poutine this year as he had to stay fit to extend his Ironman Streak of playing at least 7 club games every single day. This feat did not go unnoticed as women everywhere swooned over his newfound celebrity and voted him Canada's #1 Bachelor. Milly79 took enough time away from his farm animals, stalking NHL players and playing KOTOR to flash his offensive brilliance and underrated two-way play on a regular basis. He also celebrated a personal milestone getting married during the season to a teenage alpaca. We all wish him the best with that... ACES11 elevated his game to become the club's leading goal scorer. OK, so he didn't really "elevate his game" as much as he found one deke to exploit goalie. The final analysis of his go-to goal scoring move shows that 60% of the time, it worked everytime. There continues to be an internal debate on whether Aces is actually a person or some advanced A.I. that administrates the Skype network that is programmed with Robocop's voice and mannerisms. moop1167 blessed us with his presence again this year bringing his unique brand of comic relief along with some pretty filthy offensive skills and relentless backchecking. Despite the lengthy list of highlight reel worthy plays Moop churns out on a yearly basis, his greatest accomplishments are usually off-the-ice and this season was no exception. Moop travelled the world and did things most men only dream of like catching and killing a great white shark with his bare hands, marrying and then divorcing several Vegas strippers in a 24 hour period, marching in a Gay pride parade for the 1st time, and most importantly beating the PC version of Dark Souls 49 times.

TheVisualizer captained the club and continued anchoring the blueline with strong defensive play and mindboggling giveaways that are his trademark. This former sissy-boy finally manned-up this year and ended up leading the club in body-checking and fights which no one would have bet money to start the season. Viz was also known for his insatiable hunger that seemingly caused him to intentionally take penalties almost each game to give himself time to make a sandwich. Delryk manned the blueline for the club most nights and contributed solid defensive play along with his "talent" for finding innovative ways to turnover the puck on outlet and stretch passes. He was so dedicated to the club that on several occasions he played games while on vacation at "The Cottage" which is actually a Chinese sweatshop that he oversees where bootleg Maples Leafs apparel is made. His criminal activities did not go unpunished as karma caused his Xbox to freeze after almost every game. SCHUEY F1 went from spot starter to key member of the defensive unit and continued to evolve into a reliable EASHL defenseman. The club's secret weapon "The Schuey Cannon" was unleashed many times and on the rare occasion the lengthy windup/startup process wasn't interrupted the shot usually ended up in the net. Schuey was volunteered to lead the NHL15 Xbox One EASHL Club since he the only person on GAF that will actually be buying the system.

The club also got contributions from 3 other veteran players. zsswimmer returned with his smashmouth approach to playing defensemen while also showing off some new stickhandling and goal scoring skill. Swim also shocked everyone with his miraculous recovery from being a mute and actually used his mic and spoke with club members this year. Revenant usually showed up out of nowhere and chipped in with his intimidating forecheck and potted a few of his infamously fluky "Rev Goals" along with some clean snipes here and there. When Rev wasn't busy drinking from his harmless "waterbottle" he was busy distracting everyone with conversations about random topics. RS4- also played for a short time and provided a solid option at defenseman.

The drastic changes to the roster combined with individual improvement from everyone led to the most successful GAF EASHL season ever by a country mile. The club managed to finish in the 100-400 range of the ELITE division in every single month that we played, with July being the exception due to inactivity. The club won the ELITE playoff banner in 5 of the 10 months we competed including 3 in a row in Oct, Nov and Dec. A check of the overall ELITE standings (non 6v6) in July revealed only 5 other clubs existed that had more total wins that the NaturalBornPenaltyKillers in NHL13 EASHL. This continuity and high standard of level of play resulted in a final record of 1169 -421-134

Fantastic job Viz. I love my card. Good stuff.

Last year, we were consistently one of the top elite teams and had fun doing it. We won 5 Elite Championships in 10 months of Elite finishes, finished top 130 nearly every month, and we got better as the year went on.

Looking forward to more of the same.

So what is everyone doing for consoles now? You will largely play part in what I get. Trying to decide for battlefield mainly, although I don't think getting that at launch on the one would be the best idea (if that's the route you all decide to go).

PS4 and Battlefield at launch for me.

I'm not double dipping on anything this fall, I'm waiting for the PS4 versions.

So you're really going ps4? This will be the last year of you on the club? With M$ going back on a lot of their decisions I'm leaning towards the One now.

B4 on Xbox 1. Enjoy your Sony servers Viz ;)

I will

Microsoft have done nothing to sway me except moneyhat Titanfall (which looks amazingly fun btw). All of my favorite games this gen were PS3 exclusives, multiplats or indie/XBLA games. Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza and whatever else they have exclusive do absolutely nothing at all for me. I'm going with the cheaper, significantly more powerful machine run the by the company who wants to cater to the gamer.

I just don't see why you would choose otherwise... You believe the "cloud" marketing gimmick? Afraid to part with your gamertag name? Need to have your achievements carryover? Brand loyalty? I'm making an informed decision and I've shared my thoughts with my IRL friends and they see things like I do and are going with PS4

As far as the club, if most of you guys decide to go XBO it wont matter this fall. If Microsoft does something to justify my purchase in the next year or an overwhelming majority of you choose Xbox I might pick one up when NHL15 launches.

It's honestly because the majority of my friends are going XBONE. I could care less about the rest. M$ did it right this gen, while Sony took a while to get there in my opinion. Still plenty of time. Not picking one up at launch anyway.

I'm not picking up a console at launch. My brain says Sony but my heart says MS.

Yeah Vis. It is a bit of carryover and stuff like that for me. For the last 8 years, I was on the 360. I would enjoy the game collection/Sony exclusives more (Gears got stale) but I also enjoy the MS controller way more.

I'll make a decision next e3 probably and then pick one up next holiday season.

Amazing work once again Viz, I wasn't sure how you'd top last years player cards but you did, along with the bios and all the banner stuff, bravo.

General question for the regulars, are you all staying left handed? I think Viz is the only RH shot on the team, and I was thinking of PP plans but need to know if everyone is sticking as lefties. I'm still undecided and it would be nice to have a forward with a RH shot.

As for next gen I'm not getting either system soon, but ill probably pick up a PS3 whenever the Division comes out, I don't have any real interesting XBONE seeing as 343 ruined Halo and I don't care for any of their exclusives beyond that.

Yup. X1 day one baby... Cush, Swance and friends are all X1 too... ;)

So the system is a bit more powerful.. no big deal. So was PS3 over the 360. The Live service, controller, UI and cable features are a huge part for me. The exclusives are pretty much secondary as 99% of games are eventually on both systems.

Yep. I can live without Naughty Dogs games, which is pretty much the only PS exclusives interesting to me.

thanks for the props

Yea I'm right handed and will be sticking that way unless they give us 2 defensemen builds this year then ill turn my RD to a left hand shot.

As far as power play ideas. We need to start by parking one forward in front of the net for screens , deflections and rebounds as the demo shows this works really well.

Yeah. Slapshots, legits' top corner, aces right left and seems like wrap arounds work pretty good.

I got 2 wrap arounds last night in 3 tries.. i noticed on both goals that when the goalie stacks the pads, he moves away from the post. Hopefully its not something that will become annoying and just got lucky last night. Lol

I'm staying LH for sure. Though I've noticed I've been picking corners top left when I come down the left wing with a LH.

I would agree completely. One person in front of the net or someone up high in the slot who can go down low. Getting the goalie moving is great in this game.

Also, for those wanting to play in the settings like we will online, set it to Hardcore Simulation. That'll be the style in EASHL/online games.

OBTW... i got 25 mins of PIM with StLouis in a game.. fight, then checked someone from behind and injured him and that prompted another fight. Lol

Too bad it was with StLouis... sigh!!

my thoughts for the powerplay

i think kind of a hybrid-overload setup might work well. I'd love to run an umbrella but I'm not confident our passing and decision making is good enough. So the regular overload sets up like this
overload.png

It would probably be better to setup something like this with the difference being how the off winger positions himself and what he does
pp1.jpg

1- the left wing (green) can constantly try to find an open lane either cross crease or high slot. This will occupy one defenseman at all times rather than sit them in an overload position shortside which will just clog up things for our puck movement.

2- the center goes behind the net where they give the right wing another pass option. They can also walk it behind the net if they get the puck and try to get the defense moving side to side and sneak in a pass into the crease from behind the net.

3- the center can be sneaky and also slide up into the short-side crease area for a quick pass and shot from the winger. See Scott Hartnell's goal and specifically his positioning when he takes the shot in the video below for an example of what I mean. It would be a little different/unexpected and probably more effective if this player slides from behind the net into that spot rather than in the overload position where Hartness starts out in the video
http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=239306

4- winger along the strong side controls the play and should be our best passing winger that it on the ice. Spacing the ice this way should give them at least one or two pass options everytime regardless of how much pressure the D decides to apply. They can look cross crease/high slot, up or down the boards or out to center of the blueline if someone takes away the defenseman along the boards

5- the most important part is when the puck goes back to the point either the off winger, center or both have to immediately get in position to set a screen specifically for the defenseman at the center of the blueline who should be the one shooting. There has to be an awareness for this as you all know the defenseman dont usually get much time to make a decision or get a shot off. That traffic has to be there ASAP.

6- if the puck makes it to the center defenseman another option we have is from them to walk it across the blueline to the weakside then pass back to the center of the blueline D-to-D and have them unload a shot. Delryk and I started doing a little of this towards the end of NHL13 setting each other up (not specifically on the powerplay)

I'm not married to the center and off wingers being locked into their roles. They could flip flop depending on personnel and who's more comfortable or better in a certain aspect of the game.

Figured I'd share my thoughts too. Honest Vis, I was planning on saying the same thing. The umbrella doesn't work since we've seen what happens when we're on the PK and the other team only has one dman back (i.e. we pick off the pass and score a shorthanded goal). Might as well have a F setup/Overload PP.

I'd have the winger in the middle of the ice: higher in the slot or low in the slot . They can always drop out but in the second picture the winger is out of the play and can't really do anything. The other D won't be occupied because he doesn't have to worry about the other winger because he's out of the play and not a factor and chances are you won't get a pass there anyways. Plus, if the puck is going to the point for a shot, the 3rd forward is already in the slot. He won't have to worry about getting asap because he's already there. Furthermore, he can attack the opposing team's dmen if he's in the middle of the ice. He can't if he's off to the side.

Secondly, everyone should be comfortable in any position. You're not always going to set things up perfectly to get the bodies where you want them. Instead, especially if you're cycling the puck, everyone should know where each player needs to be and be able to take over that role if its called upon them. You should just know and be able to say "Oh I see one person in the slot, two people on D, and another one down low". Conversely, you should know that if a defensemen takes a half wall, how to cover a defenseman properly as well.

The funny part is - how the forwards are set up? That's usually how we played our 5 v 5 offense in NHL 13. The biggest part for us is entering the zone on the PP/setting up. We're lethal 5 v 5 but on the PK, we can't just get it in.

The good news is the fake slap shot takes less time, and even wristers or passing to get the goalie moving are important. Also, one timers are going to be key but we should be able to handle that.

The off winger presenting a cross crease threat rather then standing directly in the middle is key. They have to be constantly moving so its not a stationery position and they won't be out of the play.

You need to have someone occupy a defensemen's attention with the threat of cross crease/high slot pass or else the opposing d-men will get the courage to start roaming to the outside disrupting.

That forward sitting in the center of the ice or slightly towards the shortside does not help anything except being more ready to set a screen.

Vis, I agree with the other forward has to be moving but the other forward can't be that far over on the other side of the ice when the puck is on the boards. Just needs to be in the middle of the ice moving between low and high slot depending on where the puck is.

The thing is, if he's that far over, he doesn't occupy the defenseman's attention. In fact, it focuses the dman's attention on the rest of the play because he knows that forward is out of the play and can't make a play. He (the dman) doesn't have to contend for position since he can just sit in front of the net and block any pass easily. And if he (the forward) has to get that cross crease pass, it has to go through 2 bodies (as oppose to one if he's in the middle). If he's in the middle, he can always move off to the side for the cross crease or move towards the down low forward on the strong boards in for the one timer but he can't move towards the other forward if he's out of the play and off to the side. If he's in the middle of the high slot, he can receive a pass from his other four teammates. If he's off to the side, he can only receive a pass from two teammates (and one of them involves swinging the puck around the boards from the forward down low). Plus, if he's off to the side, he isn't screening the goalie since the puck is on the other side of him.

thanks, glad you liked. Not sure if you noticed but I shopped the UFC gloves on your card's pic too

you gonna make another account to play club if they don't unlock it?

Yo Vis, I don't play Star Wars anymore. Time to update the card.
I'm not updating shit, you need to just start playing Star Wars again, son

btw Red_Man messaged me on Live, he wanted me to tell everyone that he's doing fine and is looking forward to his sex-change surgery this week. His real name and gamertag are gonna be changed to "Leggiteesha X"

A couple things I noticed about the demo as I spent more time with it.

Not sure if it was a glitch/random, but the CPU tried firing the puck along the boards to dump it into the zone but it hit the stanchion where the boards begin and bounced into the middle of the ice.

Also, one timers are deadly. If you get any room for a one timer in the high slot, even with a defender on you, and can get your stick on it, its a quality scoring chance. I do wish you could save replays since I've just had some nice quick passing plays that led to the one timers that go in. Scoring in general is a lot easier even on hardcore simulation/superstar as long as you move the puck around and get a quick shot on net.

Also, I think breakaways are now easier than before. In free skate, you can simply quick deke and the goalie is already moving (so much so that I've scored repeatedly from the blue line with a quick deke). Also, I love the new LB deke where you simply hold the left stick down, it puts itself right into a wrist shot.

Yeah I noticed, the small details were hilarious. Im not making a new account Im just gonna call them everyday until it gets fixed. Ive gotten a couple of free gold codes from them so maybe I can squeeze out some free points as well, but the lame thing is that it won't even let me redeem codes on the website or on my xbox....
