NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Do I need to redo sidequests in Route B? I didn't know Route A would end so soon (well, 30 hours but still, lol) so I haven't finished some of them that I was actually interested in.

The ones that you haven't finished, yes. Sidequest that you've completed will stay completed.

Oh cool, thanks. Seems obvious but you never know <_<

Early on I read that the PC version was inferior to the ps4 version because of pop-in.
Is this still the case?
I want to experience this game in the best way possible. I have a base ps4 and a PC with
980ti
3570k@4.4ghz

Which route should I take?

welp i just spent a few hours fishing in sunken city WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME SOMEBODY HELP ME

i have now single-handedly and irreversibly disrupted the ecosystem of the area, but at least i got enough money for those couple of damn pricey sidequests

Will I be in trouble later if I skip the side quests and just mainline the story? They're not very fun and navigating the open world is kind of a hassle (even with fast travel unlocked)...

sidequest do a fairly good job at keeping you leveled and with some money to spend. i used the C slot for chips all about speed (had 2 10% speed up chips) and autocollect item, to make it quick. you pretty much cut 20% of the time spent running

Early Part C Spoilers for
A2
:

God damn if I didn't tear up at the whole Pascal situation at the end of A2's story. I was wondering where they were going with the whole building the kid's slide, and bam. That shit hit super hard. Like, I knew going back they'd be dead, but not by something Pascal did.

And then, once you erase his memories because he can't deal with the pain, you meet up with him again later and he's selling children's cores. Fuck you Yoko this game hurts.

Got the "True End" last night. And like, man, this game touched me. I teared up watching the EZA review just now while I was remembering things, especially while hearing some tracks played during it.

I had only done Route A and then went and picked up Zelda and beat it (all Shrines and quests) then came back to Nier. And Nier has massively ended up overshadowing everything else I've played this year to completion. It's just so good. Nioh, Zelda, Tales of Berseria, and Resident Evil 7 are all great games and I love them, but like, Nier Automata made me feel things in a way similar to the original Metal Gear Solid.

This year has been amazing so far and Nier just made me feel crazy elation on top of that goodness. What a game.

I'd also like to note: most Considerate chapter select of all time. Talk about amazing convenience if you want to go back and do quests and stuff.

One thing that I noticed about this is that
unlike regular machine cores, the children's core image is complete. That, at least, led me to believe that the actual core is intact and that they could be revived. Pascal himself mentions that as long as their cores are ok, the children would be fine.

I bought that item and never did anything with it.

You know what's grim about that though?

Pascal, having lost his memories, has no knowledge of what to do with them because he thinks they are junk.

And they might not be the ones from the factory but the ones from the village, since Pascal was super upset when he saw them dead. So the ones he watched die are probably gone for good, and the ones he found cleaning will never be revived because his memories are gone. Had he kept them, maybe he would have done something with them, but not anymore.

Am I the only one who didn't hate (route B spoiler)
hacking
? It could have been more diverse, but I thought it was enjoyable, especially with the
chiptunes
.

Yeah, but I kinda left hopeful that we could do something about it later.

Never happened, but at least didn't made that scene completely grim to me.

I really liked it. It helps a lot that they added a lot of personality to it with the melding of 8-bit tunes and the occasional meta. I could see how people would get sick of it if they substituted it for fighting normally though.

I enjoyed it. It did get a bit tedious, but it's more enjoyable than it is in any other game, and barely slows down the pacing.

I liked it. Undertale trained me well, so it helped that I was pretty good at it.

I like it but I never got good at it, lol

i did the route A escort quest with
the robot kid who had run away from his mom

so, since he had a health bar, i guess he could die? what happens if he dies? does the game move on with him dead, or do you get another chance?

Enjoying my playthrough first time through so far. This is a REALLY good game, and shows Square can give me a fantastic JRPG still if they collaborate. FF15 was good, but not great like this is so far.

I'm early on in Part C, and wondering about the structure.

Does picking 9S or A2 make a difference on the story, or will their halves still play out the same way? Is part D just an opportunity to choose different characters at different points?

I liked it more on my second playthrough on Hard mode. I think being on Hard mode helped my enjoyment with it since those segments are a bit harder (the targets have more HP) but the tradeoff (dealing damage to enemies) is a bigger deal since it helps you kill things better while avoiding damage that can end you on Hard mode but only be a minor inconvenience on Normal mode.

It's neat but overstays its welcome.
By the time you've hacked your 100th, 200th, 500ths or whatever enemy, you've seen all the patterns and heard all the chiptunes. Though they are well done, it's the least meaty of the gameplay types regarding unique content. On top of that, it's OP as fuck at times, making it the optimal way of fighting for much of 9S's playthrough. The punishment for failing a hack is nowhere near as severe as missing a dodge or something and it's capable of destroying most mobs in one or two rounds. I feel like if it had a cooldown mechanic associated with it, forcing players to temper it with other combat options, people would get less agitated with it.

Go with A2 until they force you to pick 9S.

If it's during the quest I think you can retry it b/c the same happened w/ me in the parade. Otherwise I think killing the pacifist machines sets off a failure ending. Otherwise you'll get another chance in the other routes

No, you can do whatever order you want.

Then why did the other poster suggest otherwise? That was my original question, are there any actual consequences to these choices?
Are these choices what makes parts C and D different, or is it like A and B where I don't have to do anything?

Regarding your first question, you basically just
reached the point of no return for that route.
If you take a look in the All quests submenu, the ones you have not finished are marked with a cross. But don't worry because you can start them over again in route B.
Awesome, thanks so much for the detailed response. :)

i always seem to make the wrong decision T_T
I'm not sure if I made the correct decision either. I kind of think she deserves to know the truth now and I can't correct it.

I put WAY too much thought into these (seemingly pointless) answers. It's one of my downfalls when it comes to games of this nature, haha.

When I tried it and failed, the quest had me go report back to the mother. After telling her what happened, she would only respond with "No..." I think it also marked it as completed after that, just with an 'x' instead of a checkmark to indicate that I was a horrible person who let a poor child die oh god

It doesn't matter what order you do them, but A2's parts come first chronologically, so it flows better to do hers first.
