NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Leveling up the Pods seems like a huge pain in the ass. Mine stayed level 1 the whole game because I was missing a bunch of natural materials like mushrooms. Do I really have to run around looking for these?

Just right after the
big boss in the city ruins
, holy shit does this game open up. There's Quest that are too high level for me such as
speed star and that karate machine guy's 3rd form

You can beat
speed star as log you can stack chips to reach +20% movement speed

Not sure what you were expecting. I think it fits what the game is going for. I liked traversing the map and it kind of felt like home by the end. I barely used fast travel. I wish there was a wall-Running mechanic to add to the fun, but I loved moving around.

So when in B they say that
humanity is gone, i guess Papa Nier did really fuck up everything with Ending D,
right? The theory about
other Gestalt projects ended up falling as well
?

Also, it's pretty interesing to see that
D&P are not the same, but still carry their sins,
it's a nice way to retcon.

Ahh I may do that. Guessing that kills any trophies related to difficulty?

Nope, no difficulty-related trophy!

ARGH! I just got ending O
right in the middle of a super important mission! I had just hacked into the signal jamming goliath, and as I was running around listening to dialogue, there was no notification I was leaving the mission area and I got ending O again, wiping out a whole bunch of progress!

Grrr! Why isn't there a visual notification so that I don't do that when someone's talking?!!? I was in the zone with the story, now I've lost interest for a while and feeling pissed off :(

Like, idk but after playing it more I don't know if the game is ever going to hit the hights of that first stage.

I still love it as a weird, bastard child of Revengeance that due to Konami intransigence I never got a proper sequel to, but I played the opening and was so hyped at what was to come and the rest of the game while really good never seems to hit that same high. It just seems like it's bogged down under the weight of "having" to be open world.

I beat
him with something like +8% speed because I forgot to actually switch to the super speed configuration I specially made for him and did it with my usual one. Welp.

Even the last race? You have my congrats then.

It does reach that level, don't worry, but it kinda takes some time, but the payoff is awesome.

I'm actually surprised by how much I'm enjoying doing side quests. I'm usually the annoying guy who enters the discussion saying "writing isn't quest design", and while I still stand by that opinion, it's impressive how much the writing is capturing me here. I spent pretty much all day doing sidequests, only did very very few of the main one, and I loved it.

Though, to be fair, it has to do with how good the core gameplay is. Movement is fun, combat is fun, most of the stuff I need for the fetch quests I already have by the time I pick them up, I also think the level design is quite good. When you combine all of that, what is a very basic quest structure becomes easy fun with narrative payoff. Usually in RPGs, doing a quest for the writing comes with just standing the gameplay, not actually enjoying it. Not the case here.

Only during Sartre's questline I went to the desert with a mount, and decided to explore more of that big open space.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THOSE EMIL HEADS. Are those the remnants of some of his clones made to fight the aliens when they first invaded? Will anything ever happen here, or is it just an easter egg? Also found some sort of bunker with a weird guy exploding himself and happy I couldn't enter.

Surprised by how few of the sidequests have a sad ending so far, hahaha. Well, depending on who you ask,
200k for a mask and a new piece of environment
is not exactly a happy ending, but anyway.

You mean the demo level? It's honestly my least favorite part of the game so far. To be fair, having played the demo a million times is probably the reason I felt that way, but yeah, I'm not feeling like the rest of the game is failing to live up to that at all.

I'm enjoying the open world. It's very small, movement is fast, not a fuckton of shit to do and collect, you just pick up some loot here and there, and go straight to points of interest instead of holding forward and picking up plants every 3 steps.

That's the fight that teaches you
A2's super special limit attack
, but I dunno, it really didn't seem to even be a viable approach for this boss.

I feel like using it is literally the only way to beat that boss on Very Hard because you can
stack chips that will allow you to regain HP from attacks and mash health items to keep the mode going... this is one of the rare cases where you can actually take a hit on very hard and survive.

Yesssssss, only took me about 22 hours but I've finally finished my Route A playthrough! To think this is only the tip of the iceberg is exciting as I've already been immensely impressed with the game thus far, particularly the last segment I just completed.

So far I've got the A, T, & U Endings, now to proceed with Route B. Couldn't be happier for Yoko Taro and Platinum to make such an awesome game!

The fuck. I'm at the start of route C
and the game told me to go and help the units in three areas and kill all enemy units, I'm on the last one. I've killed all enemies in the last area yet the red area is still there and nothings happening.
Am I missing something....

Edit: Okay nevermind, like 5mins later it finally updated and decided to say I'm done.

How the fuck am i supposed to fight
Hegel
? There are too many attacks all at once, and if i
go berserk
i get 100% killed.

Early Route C

I'm supposed to help other squads take out robots. Why is this so hard? Why is there a Level 60 enemy that kills me in two hits? This difficult curb is stupid.

Keep the thing going by mashing health items and using the chips that give you health for every attack you do on an enemy.

(also, defense chips)

You can get like 99 health items in small, medium and large forms and the thing will actually last forever.

Finally started this late last night, so far I finished the desert zone and the "this cannot continue" boss fight and I'm liking it pretty well so far. I just need to work on better dodge timing.

Also I'm really just not a fan of the PS4 controller, the sticks are so bad.

that fight is definitely not the best time to introduce the berserk mode, it's "how to get the player killed 101" don't use it if you don't have chips to keep up the health

I don't think I even got "gain health from attacking" chips, only health from each enemy defeated (unless that's what y'all mean...but that wouldn't really be that helpful for
Hegel
)

It probably is possible to get by without that and just mashing health items, but I would recommend at least having some so that you don't get bopped in the middle of a combo or whatever.

Also, anti-chain damage, which I'm pretty sure everyone will agree is one of the best chips in the game since it makes you invulnerable to combos.

EDIT:

But yeah, this is one of those fights that seems cool on paper, but it's really poorly designed and the runback is kind of atrocious since you have to do the 3 titans or whatever before it each fucking time lol

So bought this game based on Gaf recommendation.

Now the game is forcing me to complete a side quest to collect some broken circuit from some bad guys. Nothing is dropping this thing. I've been running around for 40 minutes already....

This is really leaving a sour taste in my mouth right now.

Wow that quest (Route C) about the
fallen resistance members that ends with 9S paying homage to 2B
was so touching...
Does that last bit only unlock if you gained access to
Emil's house
?

Those are not dropped, are the shiny things already on the ground, look better.

In that red area? I'm looking. Nothing was in there. I'll look again I guess.

Saw someone run into this earlier. Save -> Quit ->Load to respawn all the quest enemies. Either that or you missed an item to pick up off the ground.

Just picked up a few side-missions from the village.

Should I wait till I unlock Fast Travel to complete them? Or can those missions time-out?

Thanks, this worked. Had to save and reload twice to get it. Kept getting multiple of shit I didn't need.

Animals. Ride them. It's basically 2x move speed if you're just trying to go from one place to another.

So im on Route A and just
fought Adam in the Copied City

How much longer would you guys say I have until Ending A, assuming I'm just mainlining and skipping pretty much every side quest

Adding to this, the Half-wit Inventor quest in
The Machine Village
gives you an item somewhere between 30-40k that
spawns a tamed moose/boar at every save point.
It makes life so much easier.
