Nightreign fairly reviews and critism coming up - Do only I find this shameless?

Right...
So how is this still a thing?

Get invited to a dinner, cosplay, whole day or two of activities.
oh and then you get to play the game a bit - how do you like it? it's good isn't it? Oh and we will also pay you.
Like... what the point here? Because I don't see it. These influencers will all play the newest release regardless.
if anything, this just makes people feel bad and envy them? I really don't know.

I realize it was always a thing in journalist world but these people just play games on twitch (I don't know them all, but some do).
Why even waste however many thousands of $$$ for this inclusive event?

And think about that the next time you hear any criticism or lack there of for new releases. This is only what we see.
The hype and hate trains are the norm on twitch and youtube. Remember that.

Graphic t-shirts, fat bellies, zero forearm definition... imagine going out to a dinner looking like that. I hope their influence stops at which games to play. Hate seeing young men think this is an appropriate way to conduct themselves.

That's how Bandai Namco does things... They always do that shit, same thing that Ubisoft does. But while everybody shits on Ubi for it, most doesn't seem to care when Bamco does.

This is nothing compared to what the big publishers used to do for traditional games media like magazines and the big websites. I've heard Gerstmann tell stories about the early days of GameStop, Rockstar flying everyone to Vegas and sending them on dune buggies and shit. Renting out suites. The works. This is nothing new and scaled back to how it used to be.

I mean, some cool streamers there like Elajjaz and mismikka but man... this is kinda not a good look?
They clearly have metrics that prove doing shit like this and using streamers to promote their games has a much larger return on investment.

We may not like it but the young casuals are easily influenced by dip shits like Emiru.

Also, for a lot of these events when they do reviews/previews these folks will flat out say they didn't let the studio pay for their flight or board etc, so they can be critical in their thoughts on the game.

The event itself is pay though - once in a lifetime fun event so it absolutely skews your perception to not be AS critical if their is flaws.

Personally I look at a few reviews online then come here to get the hands on scoop. Tainted grail for example I really want to play but all the performance issues GAF told me about had me put it on hold.

for elden ring release, there was at least the happyhob there and they were doing some challenge runs.
I suppose there was dinner and crap there too.
So it does work....

100% it would skew my perception. Unless it's some real shit game and you know they are going under with no future work with them.
But this is bandai.

I couldn't be as critical if it was me. hell I was shitting on some robot vacuum in yt comments last week and then a developer answered my comments "sorry, we will fix that, please give us time" etc.... and hell that stopped me from shitting on the robot. Once you have human contact, it will be skewed. Let alone a party, fun event with friends and BIG MONEY

I'm not surprised at all. The last thing I will ever listen to are reviews or impressions from Atlus games and Fromsoftware games. The sad truth is they didn't even need to give them a free dinner. People are lining up to do it for free for FS. You can't even trust opinions on the games from people on this forum who get nothing. Their fans see no flaws in anything they do, and its always nearly the exact same thing every time.

These press events happen all the time. Why is it okay when journalists do this but not when Twitch streamers do this?

The reach of Souls streamers is probably way more important than a journalist from some shit website.

It's cringe as fuck but there's nothing shameless about it unless they start shilling for the game and don't disclose that they got paid (which is against Twitch TOS).

they give their opinions on the games they play

Sadly no one cares. Some outlets would do things like unboxings of the bribes they'd been sent and clutter up their studios and offices with it.

Opinions or shillpinions? Either way the only thing streamers are good for is telling me where the best gear is. More often then not a lot of the information given out is incorrect...especially when Fextralife is involved.

TerribleAtThisGame TerribleAtThisGame Both. No soul in those eyes. Lights are on but nobody is home.

You wanted the death of games journalism with zero exceptions.

This was going to be the end result.
thats whats so hilarious... its the exact same shit with different people. and if you think this doesnt affect these peoples mental it does, these pamperings work. tale as old as time. why talk bad about the product when you can get coke and hookers on their next release.

I read this thread like I'm having a stroke, I don't understand any of it or know any of these people. Even the title confuses me.

Ecelebs don't have integrity. And I don't mean that as criticism. They are entertainers not journalists and it would be better if kids understood that.

It seems like many of the responses in this thread appear to think this sort of thing only happens for video games.

Get invited to any major phone hardware release party, or red carpet event, or god forbid an F1 presser and you will see how extreme this sort of thing gets.

I am sure everyone knows this...it might just seem like an extra bad look for folks in the pictures above since most of the invitees are dressed in street clothes/look just got off of a 15 hour stream bender.

Wonder if they'll do it like Veilguard, where they flew all the "journalists" in for a preview event, then sent review codes only to the ones who wrote the most glowing positive previews.

The people who watch these influencers and buy shit based on their 'opinions' are the problem. Influencers getting free shit to shill for a product is their while reason for being.

I do see the point and i actually think it's a smart move, i guess these guys are famous streamers/youtubers? if so, yes, they are going to play the game once it releases probably but this way From Soft gets these guys to talk about the game and hype it weeks before the release date, and i'd bet their audience is very big, way bigger than any gaming site.

Also journalists are also just guys that play games, in my case there's a couple streamers/youtubers i trust more than any gaming journalism site nowadays.

Yea some of these streamers will talk wonders about the game even if it ends up not being great, but the same thing happens with journalists.

If i only paid attention to scores from gaming sites and i saw KCD2 had worse scores than Deathloop or Horizon FW, fuck i wouldn't have bought it. Thank god that's not the case as i would have missed a masterpiece

No, as much as people try to equate this, it will be worse. Whatever line that was still sort of held by a few reputable publications will be completely gone once youtubers and twitch streamers are the go-to reviewers for all games.

Doenst matter gaf still glorifies influencers and reviews as if they matter. You'd be pretty fucking stupid to rely on ppl who get payed to talk good about games and products. Wont change shit as you all talk 100 pages in the review threads like a bunch of children because IGN gave a 6 to your favorite franchise or whatever the fuck.

I wouldn't even call this group of people influencers, they're "just" streamers.

Publisher invites people who stream a ton of Fromsoft games over to check out the upcoming Fromsoft game. The only issue here is that my boy Distortion2 isn't invited.

Is it dumb? Yeah.

It's marketing. Anyone with a couple spare brain cells to rub together should know to take this stuff with a grain of salt.

Considering this is Fromsoft, I'm willing to give it a pass since their juice is worth the squeeze.

are you kidding me?
She looks like a little boy
Oh Jesus Christ not this shit again lmao

Oh god i hate seeing this kind of marketing for anything Fromsoft. Do this shit with CoD and Asscreed, not fromsoft swag.

It says radiance of the Earth tree, not Erdtree. That's interesting. Somebody on the media team didn't play the game lol
