Ninja Gaiden II: The Official GAF Thread of Chaos

Damn, So i guess the OG version of Ninja Gaiden 2 is better than Sigma. How can you remove blood and dismemberment!!! I may have to get this one again though.

I think he means those red fire-breathing dragons. There are some painful Tests of Valor that include them on MNM. I think the one with the acid worms/dragons took me over an hour to complete in my karma run.

Got the platinum hits version of this game in the mail yesterday from amazon, I just finished chapter 2 and Im hooked. This game is fucking amazing.

They didn't remove either of those things. There is still plenty of blood and dismemberment, but the blood is less pronounced and the severed limbs disappear quickly after hitting the ground. The hacked up corpses remain though.

Hayashi as usual made a lot of flimsy nonsensical rationalizations for the self-censorship, but I'm positive it was ultimately a matter of securing a more accessible CERO D rating for more sales.

All of the removals in S2 don't bother me as much as the fact that the game is babby easy after finishing NG2 on any difficulty.

When NG2 came out I got up to the final boss and quit after dying 1000x. I just couldn't beat him. When NGS2 came out for the PS3 I decided to bite on that as well because I LOVED vanilla NG2 and I heard that it was a bit easier (I like hard games) and wanted to beat that pain in the ass boss.

I really liked the additions of Sigma 2 but it seemed like it my playthrough was quick because of the easier difficulty. Next time I play it I will do the harder mode. I did the easier difficulty to really see the extras. I enjoyed them. The extra bosses were a pretty cool addition like the giant Buddah, Statue of Liberty and Tengus. But I really missed the dismemberment of vanilla NG2. Slicing up warewolves with the claws was amazingly satisfying and just felt "right".

I really don't know which version I like better because the dismemberment really adds so much to the game and its just so cool to look at. I say get both. Both versions can be found for a total of $25 which is less than 1/2 the price of NG3.

edit: or that ^^

From what I can remember:
SIGMA 2

ADDED
+ 3 New characters & 3 New Stages
+ CO-OP online
+ New Missions in Mission Mode
+ Runs at 720p
+ New Depth of Field during Obliteration Technique
+ Some Higher-Res Graphics
+ Added Enma's Fang and Howling Cannon Weapons
+ Enemies Have More Health
+ Added Chapter Challenge
+ Can Jiggle Breasts with Six-Axis

CHANGED
- Unlimited Projectiles
- Removed Blood
- Removed Windmill Shuriken
- Removed Incendiary Shuriken
- Removed Harpoon Gun
- Removed all Water Combat
- Removed Tests of Valor
- Removed Tunnel Worm & section
- Replaced Dual Armadillo Fight
- Removed UT Charge on Bow
- Cannot be knocked out of UT charge as easily
- Can only use Muramasa's shop to upgrade weapons once but does not require essence
- Five new bosses (Replaced 2 existing ones)
- Life of the Gods, Lives of a Thousand Gods, & Spirit of the Devil are automatically used when picked up and can not be held on to.
- Karma scoring is only gained through Chapter Challenge
-1/2 the enemies gone (sometimes way more - see chapter 11 (tempered gravestone) for hilarity).
-Framerate still likes to dip sometimes even though there are only usually like 4 enemies on screen.
-AI / Ryu's moveset is not designed around fighting 4 enemies at a time during none boss encounters so to "fix" this they made it so all grabs are one hit kills on Master Ninja.
-Even still every difficulty in the game is less difficult than NG2 Mentor.

NGS2 is interesting, but it took a butcher knife to something that only needed touching up.

Forgot what happens right after you kill the armadillo. That was a truly evil moment in this game.

Good thing you can kill the Armadillo in like 5 seconds with incendiary shurikens (although I still wonder whether this was on purpose - I think they may have just put in that weakness because they realized the boss is godawful but did not want to cut it).

Sigma 2 did do a lot of good. Removed a lot of the tedium of NG2; awful platforming/water levels/puzzles.

It also did a lot of bad; significantly easier on Warrior (though that may just be because I already had experience from finishing NG2 on Warrior), NO TRIALS OF VALOR (my favorite part of the game). Introduces new chars, which are mostly inoffensive, really.

The co-op was the selling point for me. I enjoyed it for what it was, because it was Ninja Gaiden + co-op. BUT, it is awfully designed. Netcode is awful. Missions are separated by difficulty. So, you have 10 missions that can ONLY BE PLAYED IN NINJA DOG DIFFICULTY, 10 only for Warrior, 5 for mentor, 5 for master ninja, 5 for ultimate ninja. As you increase the difficulty, the variety also goes down; it's mostly boss fights in the harder diffs, and the awful netcode just made exercises in frustration. Such idiotic design. All they could have done was just put in NG2's DLC missions, put in co-op, allow all difficulties for all missions (WHICH NG2 ALLOWS), and it'd be pretty awesome.

Sigma 2 is only because the base game was already fabulous. It does fix some things, but removes more important things, and what it adds is at times truly awful. I absolutely love co-op, and Sigma 2 co-op left a very bad taste.

Best description of it ever done.

Yea the Sigma2's co op is just not fun. Anything remotely challenging has to be played co op, and then it's some ridiculous boss fights that ends up being who can exploit what first grind fast. I really miss the first one's mission modes with multilayered difficulties.

Just finished the game

Actually its good game if you consider it a normal action game but its bad if you compare it to NG2 or original NG

Good story and graphic gameplay is awesome though you are doing the same thing over and over they killed a lot of things like items and search and collecting stuff too bad you can't play ryu or momiji and ayane in the missions or online mode

1 weapon not boring for me in all NG games my main weapon was the Dragon Sword so I am used to use it all the time

and too bad I didn't get to try DOA5 demo cause the code didn't come with the game :|

I give it 7 out of 10
Wrong thread maybe?

What's the secret behind the guys who shoot a barrage of rockets at you? I willed myself through it last time, but I'm getting all sorts of annoyed again. I'm trying to use the Falcon's Talons to dive bomb them into a Izuna drop, but I can get shot out of the sky, and when running up to them, it seems like they're extremely difficult to dodge. Especially seeing as they like to put them on both ends of the map launching crap at me >:(

I love that NG3 actually sent everyone back to replay NG2. I know it's unlikely at best but I really hope when the monthly live activity report comes in, it shows that more people played NG2 than 3. If there is any way we can send our message to Team Ninja Dog Shit, it's this.

I just remember how the OT for Sigma2 is a clusterfuck of fanboys ravaging anyone who suggested Sigma 2 isn't the greatest thing ever. Quite hilarious.

Just ninja star them or fire arrows in mid air to stun then while they are stunned do the Falcon Talon Flying Swallow -> Izuna Drop (or just do an izuna drop from the ground if you cannot do it reliably with the claws). Zig-zagging with the dash -> jump is a good way to get close.

If you are talking about that area in the forest with all the rocket ninjas, use all of your ninpo ideally (I believe there is a chest in there that replenishes ninpo as well).

I bought this game a few weeks ago in anticipation of NGIII, but gave up on it on chapter 3 or 4. I think it's a great game from what I played so far, but it's crazy hard. I'm getting my ass handed to me on the normal difficulty. I definitely understand the developpers' decision to make the sequel more accessible.

Unpatched FTW

I still believe that the slowdown staircase was intentional.

The controller inputs in this were more responsive than any of the framerate dip portions of NG3.

Play on Path of the Acolyte, which is the easy difficulty.

And feel fortunate enough to have a difficulty level made available to you that doesn't require Ryu to wear a pink armband through the whole game.

Got bored and beat NGS2 on Master Ninja again (had been playing it again over the last couple days). I still can't believe they didn't alter the bosses that rely on the bow and arrow (given that they changed it to auto-aim in NGS2). It makes the second to last boss the most boring 15 minutes of your life (and that boss was not even that exciting in NG2 - but atleast you had to aim and pickup arrows).

Going to play NGB again now, still amazed that NGB runs on Xbox 1 hardware (still looking pretty good with component out). Ninjas indeed.

Odd question about Sigma 2 vs OG 2:

Sigma 2 is supposed to reduce the number of enemy mobs to help slowdown, down to 5-6.

But I've found videos that demonstrate 10-12 enemies showing up, using the demo of Sigma 2.

Did they change that in the final build, or do larger mobs only show up on higher difficulties?

Enemies are around 5 to 6 regardless of difficulties in NGS2. You can increase the number of enemies by spawning enemies to run to another area to spawn more

Nah in Sigma 2 there are instances where enemies will go higher then 5-6 (somewhat rarely). Also you can still force more then 5-6 enemies by skipping waves sometimes. The overall amount of enemies (and most importantly, overall encounters) is reduced by a big amount though. Just look up Chapter 11 on NG2 MN and Chapter 14 on NGS2 MN to do a dare to compare (one room has 9 Rasetstu Spider Ninjas and like 40 incendiary shuriken ninjas - in NGS2 that room has 2 Rasetsu ninjas and that is it). There will be plenty of times in NGS2 where you are walking and where an encounter would be in NG2 there is absolutely nothing.

They're actually really easy. Just dodge back and forth on approach, then wind run > flying swallow. Seriously, always be using wind run on Mentor and above. Unless you're specifically trying to manoeuvre away from your enemies, you should never be jumping normally instead of using wind run. WR > FS and WR > guillotine throw are your best friends. You need those i-frames!

Why are you aiming in that fight? Ryu does that shit for you if you don't touch the sticks. :P

I guess Aerosmith and Armageddon got him through this one too.

Good video but too bad it doesn't show the crazy Rasetsu room fight for a comparison.

Yeah, I didn't see the whole video but assumed it was in since the title said through chapter 14. I remember getting scared shitless when all of those Rasetsu's came out.

Ryu targets the head and then the glowing orb automatically without aiming? I guess I never tried. That would make that fight even duller.

He aims for the closest valid target, and when the orb is active the head is always farther away, so yeah. It's a pretty lame fight in both versions. :P

I know I asked this in the past, and I hate asking again, but what are the pros and cons of patched/unpatched Ninja Gaiden 2?

Wow, it's like it's intentional symbolism. You go to a village where you'd expect to find ninja. And Itagaki delivers that in spades. But in hayashi's hands, all that's there is a few pooches. Ninja dogs indeed.

"Tempered Gravestone" is a pretty amazing level all things concerned. It starts off fairly ridiculously (large amounts of enemies then Rasetsu room oh god), then wraps around back into the original level from Ninja Gaiden 1, then proceeds into some extremely large arenas (the gravesites), then ends with a fight with Genshin (who can now use the Izuna Drop on you). Pretty great.

Ok, I have to take a break.

I'm at the waterfall and I spent probably an hour there. I just don't know what to do there. I got lucky on that level the last time I played. Dragons swooping in knocking on my ass, Ryu's aim is good with the little ones, but you're screwed with the big ones. Lasers, fireballs... I have a full health bar and I think I'm doing well and in the span of 5 seconds I'm dead.

When I try the void ninpo, the camera suddenly changes perspective.
Edit: as in it's not first person. And when I get my bearings, I'm staring 180 from where I want to aim even though I was facing the dragons.

We know :(

:'(

"For Devil's Third, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. We've got support from THQ's testing team, and we're going to work really closely with those guys to balance out the game. It's going to be the best game ever."

Let the dragons come to you. Then use the void ninpo (if you are lucky you hit both dragons with 1 void ninpo). It's actually a pretty easy boss in NG2 even on MN.

Hardest boss for me was Zedonius 2nd. encounter
