Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

Added you

Mine is 3737-9487-8942

Considering the NA and EU launches are coming up we should really have an OT for exchanging FCs.
Thanks, I just added you :).

Yeah, it was mentioned before. We really need an OT for that.

Silly question, to exchange friend codes do you hve to do the painstaking process of writing them down or can you use the qr barcode system?

Here's the case I'm currently using:

I have this same case, and love it. I was assuming it was going to work with the 3DS as well though? I thought it was very similar in size to the DS Lite?

Quick question:
What's the square between the stylus emplacement and the L button? IR captor or something?

IR transmitter/receptor.

Please read the FAQ in the OP.

I do too. The retail one is not exactly like this one, but the only difference is that the system compartment has a plastic mesh with cutouts for the buttons & volume/power switch instead of those two straps in Marty Chinn's pics. The game compartment looks exactly the same. fits quite a few carts in felt padded protection!

I'm assuming that Nintendo still does not ship universal-voltage chargers with their handhelds. Am I right? That shit is ridiculous. Everybody else includes universal chargers (120-220v) with their portables (PSP, cameras, laptops, etc.) except cheap ass Nintendo.

Hoping to be proven wrong.

I was wondering if anyone who owns a 3DS can answer this question. Did any of you purchase the Hori brand screen protectors, and if so, did you use the top-screen protector? I was just wondering if it hampers the 3D effect at all.

I used it and it doesn't hinder the 3D at all

But they used for the 3DS the same as the DSi and DsiLL!

Just received my blue one the other day. Reminds me of the Wavebird bag from E3. It'll fit the 3DS nicely, considering how easily the DSi XL fits in it.

Hopefully they'll come to the European Club Nintendo soon (they're pictured in the EU 3DS's Club Nintendo leaflet, along with G&W Ball), since I might use one of those myself. Until then though, I'll keep using the PSP value pack slipcase I've been using for my DSL/DSi.

By the way, can a game be erased from the activity log, or the entire system be reset by the user? (Very important)
You gonna be checking out Love Plus?

F***ing Nintendo.

Still my favorite game company. But it often times feels like I'm in an abusive relationship.
They hit you because they love you.

Hehe nope, I'm just wondering because a rumor popped up on Go Nintendo that Nintendo might be keeping track of flash cart use via that functionality.

So what are they gonna do with it, but a self destruct option in there or something?

Based on previous things companies have done...disable your ability to play games online, maybe file mass lawsuits with people...

Nintendo has been pretty bad before, but they've never gone as far as Sony is going now.

Nintendo isn't going to go apeshit like Sony so I guess it's just banning online

If they can check your Activity Log, I'll bet Nintendo will turn away consoles sent in for repair if you've used flash carts.

Majority of people who buy a 3DS will be for the 3D, the existence of the 3D slider is not going to stop Nintendo from creating games that require the full use of it. Nintendo knows this, anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish. Just take a look at the stylus and touchscreen on the DS, some games require it to play, just because some people don't like it won't stop anything.

I'd be a bit surprised if Nintendo banned flash-carts user in a XBL / PSN ban kind of way, given their complete inaction towards the Wii Homebrew Channel.

You can send a Wii you bricked with the Homebrew Channel installed on it to customer support, and they'll just repair it like any other normal console.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
not seen it myself, but the wife has mentioned that some Japanese sources are saying that if your gamer log shows flash card use then you are not entitled to warranty cover.

I guess we'll see eventually.

I most certainly see Nintendo doing this. If they detect that you've opened up your Wii it voids the warranty. If they detect any homebrew or anything like that on the Wii's system when you send it in for repair they'll return it right back to you unfixed. I see them checking the 3DS OS as well for this. Having checks in place when you access the eShop wouldn't be out of the question as well. They should be able to do this now.

The Wii Shop Channel I don't think was setup to detect anything like this. If they learned from their mistake and have paid attention to how Live and PSN work then this should have been dealt with.

Activity log is erased when you reset the system and friend code is changed. A friend reading this thread just asked me to check.

What ? Since when ? Last I checked it was the complete opposite :/

Though I haven't been in the homebrew thread for a while now.

I believe that's the case and always was. Unless I'm mistaken.

I don't think Nintendo will ever ban people for using flashcards. It's not like it's the same than physically modding your console, like with 360 piracy. It`s hardly fair to ban an uninformed person that once tried a flashcard on his or someone's 3DS for whatever reason.

I really hope they find a way around piracy though.

Earlier people were complaining about their inability to change their Mii. I'm wondering, are you forced to create a Mii when you set up the system? Do you have to "create" your Mii or can you just choose from the Miis in your Mii Plaza? Would it be possible to transfer one from a Wii and set that as your Mii?

They have, through actual useful firmware updates. The only things about this that don't prevent piracy are:

1. People who don't care about the updates.
2. The firmwares don't actually stop piracy.

You can change your Mii. I've done it a bunch of times already.

Ok thanks. Then I guess it's a rather weak rumor then about the flash cart check.

Question about the bottom screen for those in the know.

With the DS Lite, when I use a screen protector, be it a Hori one or a Zagg one, or something similar, taking it off without breaking it is a bitch. (By trying to pull it off of the bottom screen, the whole bottom screen comes right out, or rather, the plastic piece that is over the screen)

Does anyone know if Nintendo has made it harder (with the 3DS) to pull the bottom screens out? Or will I just have to not replace my screen protector at any point and be more careful with it?

Actually, honestly, I didn't know if it would or wouldn't fit. I was just assuming it might not. Good to know if it does =)

Pretty drastic, though - completely resetting your system so you lose access to your friend code, thus all your friends, and probably any DSi-Ware or 3DS-Ware/VC games purchased.

I could see it used for something, such as denying access to 3DSware, DSiware, virtual console, repair under warranty, DLC, and future updates...

Though I sorely doubt any of this would actually happen.
