The shoulder buttons do stuff on some of the visualisers. Not sure what the Excitebike one did.

That doesn't exactly make it a game, though.

I was actually kind of surprised at how identical the 3DS Sound app looks to the DSi Sound app.

I love how some people argue my hardware design issues by stating that Iwata explained the reasoning behind it in a chapter of Iwata Asks. What the hell? I'm sure they could've released a charming interview at the time of the original DS launch which could convince some people that that design was good too.
You were complaining about how you thought the hinges looked worse than in the past (and because of hinges and a square power button, the 3DS was no longer worth buying), I was explaining *why* they were. If you want the hinges to crack and the three ribbon cables going through them to break, rendering your system entirely useless when you just set it down on a table, too bad :p

if they fixed the playblack while closed, then it would make it much more serviceable

It's 3:21. Why am I still awake?

Probably going to head out soon just to check things out. I have to fly to the U.S. tonight too, so it's going to be a busy day...
are you coming to boston for PAX?

Fix what now? I don't actually use the thing for music—I have actual music players for that—but I recall it still worked while closed. Through headphones, yes, but why would you want music to be playing inside a closed DS?

some kind of laser that can harm your eyes shoots from that end?

It's a mysterious InfraRed port, I don't know if it's dangerous or if they just want it to remain a mystery.

I wish I'd clicked the link before trying to understand what Nintendo were saying here.

Well, what luck! The clerks from Geo happened into Makku, recognized me from asking about the system at midnight, and were kind enough to tell me exactly how many units they got in. They weren't allowed to say in an official capacity earlier. So, this should work out.

Heh. Probably for inexpensive devices like the Activity Meter and Pokewalker, though, seriously. Except neither of those specifically because (a) onboard pedometer (b) those two things already communicate with their matched infrared Game Cards.

Killzone 3 on 3DS confirmed.

Quite surprised by the length of lines. I assumed everyone who wanted one on day 1 already lined up for pre-orders back in January! It's always fun to see some launch mayhem though :)
only people with their heads in the sand think this thing isn't going to be a massive hit out of the gate. no offence :)

pre-orders started (and pretty much ended) before the marketing campaign really kicked into gear. so many people missed the chance to pre-order and have been sold on the system in the meantime.

Has there been anyone who thought it would bomb in Japan? I've been a pretty big critic of late, but I've never for a second thought it wouldn't be a massive success in Japan. This thing is designed for that market.

*shrug*. doesn't the DS have more competition in Japan than anywhere else? what logical reason do we have for expecting the 3DS to do worse elsewhere?

You're implying that the 3DS won't be a massive hit everywhere else?

Cause I'd like what you're smoking.

I could be wrong, but mainstream media coverage of the issues with the 3D screen seems to be even more sensationalistic in the Western media. Case in point: this article, which is from a generally reputable UK newspaper but reads in parts like something from a supermarket tabloid, especially the lede:

It promises unique "eye-popping" entertainment, but what it actually delivers is nausea, sore eyes and dizzying headaches.

I doubt it'll have that much impact, but I am a bit concerned about negative word of mouth from people who don't bother to adjust the depth slider.

i'm sure it'll have as much impact as the stories about how the DS could get your child molested.

when people start suing Nintendo in America then we should worry

but its nothing worst then putting straps and condoms on Wiimotes

So I've been browsing through the 3DS manual. It seems like there's some button combos that do stuff.

When you're playing 3DS games both (L+R+Y) and (L+R+X) do something.

When playing DS/DSi games Start+D-pad direction (each direction does something different) does something.

Could someone please translate and tell us what the button combos do?
