The 3DS supports other MPO files? This guy got the 3D pictures he took on his FinePix working: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPH-uKs1rGc
Ah, perfect. :). It will be nice to test other peoples 3D photos on my own 3DS.

I've posted a FAQ in the OP. Please let me know if you have any questions or additions. I'll be back in about 18 hours to update it.
Well, this revelation about using non-3DS photos can now be confirmed. Also, would it be a massive annoyance to bold the questions? Might make it easier to read! :). Sorry!

So what you're saying is I get .mpo screenshots of a downscaled Crysis in 3D and have Crysis 3D on my 3DS?
Hmm...I didn't think of 3D game photos. Does Gran Turismo 5 have this option? Might be nice to see some people's images in 3D.

I don't know why people keep calling this a weak launch. The Japanese one has Layton, and the US launch has some awesome looking stuff coming out.

Won't know until someone tests this out. It would be awesome if it works!

Can someone with good knowledge about batteries tell me what to do when I get the DS. Do you empty the charge, then do a full charge, or do you full charge it before even turning it on?

I fear ghost charge and things like that, I had an IPOD whose battery would only last 15 minutes by the end, and I don't want that to ever happen to my 3DS

I pulled the trigger. Will be patiently waiting for Konami to release Love Plus.

I think they solved it with slow charging with the craddle. And no, you shouldn't leave Li-ion batteries to always run completely dry, just from time to time.

Here's a question I don't think has been answered. Ever since the original DS there was functionality to transfer some sort of ID from DS to DS. I'm not sure if it was the MAC address or what it was, but transferring it let you play your online games with the same account as on your previous DS, since the cards are paired to the hardware.

I saw some kind of DS transfer item in the options in a video, but I don't know if it was just the not-yet-ready DSi-Ware software transfer, or this other existing functionality.

So, can you still do that? It'd be necessary so you could, say, put in Mario Kart DS and still be using your same account/stats/etc.

I would also like to know.

My DS Lite battery lasts like an hour now and I'm not sure where I went wrong.

For lithium batteries I don't think it matters what you do, though I think it's better to charge it as little as possible? Some people believe in exercising them when you get them, which would be to drain it once completely and then recharge it back up. But after that I think it's better to do as few charges as possible.

I could be wrong though. My PSP battery lasts the same amount now as when I got it so I must have done something right. But I'm one of those people who constantly has their shit on a charger.

What are the best screen protectors to buy for 3DS? There are multiple kinds out there on Amazon. Right now I'm looking at the ICON 2-pack.

zazzle.com allows people to print large posters no worries of copyrights if you just order the poster for yourself and not putting them up for sale on the store

I am going to test how large you can go when I get a 3DS
There is no limit, it's just visual data. You could knit a giant blanket and as long as it has the same colors and approximately close outlines it'll work.

Or use Google Earth to get a screen shot of downtown Chicago from space, photoshop a Mario card into the center, there you go.

I was thinking about something along the lines of this except in a football stadium or something :S. And yes - It should work.

football stadium pokemon matches!

And of course it'd work. Its still the same relative size to the screen, just that because you have a massive card, you need to move further back so larger items are viewable on the screen.

you could probably try it out on your big HDTV - display the AR card and see if the 3DS picks it up.

People are just idiots. Even if there was only a Mario game at launch people would complain. -_-

EDIT: I wonder why people abandoned my thread. It makes me sad because I put so much work into the OP. -_-;

I agree. I've always gone bare with my DS/DS Lite. I guess if you have kids that play it, a screen protector might help. I've seen the demo units of a DS at Target/Wal-Mart/whathaveyou and sometimes I don't know what people do to create these huge gashes and scratches on the touch screen.

You've clearly never played Ouendan/EBA, Pokémon minigames, Wario Ware or Rythm Heaven. Just swipe a single speckle of dust or sand with the stylus and there you have a really nice scratch. It's difficult, but I swear I've seen really awful screens, and the consoles were not even used by little kids.

Hmm, maybe it will be ok without it then. I didn't get a screen protector for PSP Go until it was too late :/ but maybe that was because you can't close a PSP, the screen is always susceptible to scratches when you aren't even using it. There's also dust that accumulates on the edges on the screen.

But I'll probably go ahead and add a Hori screen protector to the shopping list just in case.

The circle marks on my phat are what turned me on to screen protectors. Before that I never bothered.

About every non-Nintendo stylus (be it a cheaply made 3rd party stylus or a stylus for another device) tended to scratch the screen (or the screen cover).

So I would recommend a screen cover in case you lose your stylus and need to fall back on a non-1st party one.

I'd like to know this as well. Or is it something not worth worrying about?

full discharge/charge once per month if not sooner I think.
Worst thing you can do. Try to never do a full discharge/charge, unless you are noticing worse battery life, which could be caused by the battery getting out of sync, and thinking it has less charge than it does. Doing a full discharge/charge will fix that problem. But Lithium Ion batteries hate full discharges, they are designed to be plugged in and charging as much as possible.

I always heard that is the worst thing you could do. I try and always let it drain completely and then do a full charge. I'm totally clueless about this stuff tho. Although my portable phones (not cell phones) ALWAYS run dry after a year or two.

I'm interested in this:

Does the Circle Pad work with any old DS games?

At least Super Mario 64 DS is reported to work. YMMV.

Has anyone tried more DS games? I hope that circle pad works with all DS games. The d-pad is so low that it looks like it would be a bit uncomfortable to use.

Here's what you need to know about Lithium Ion batteries:

BatteryUniversity said:
Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery.

Okay, the Home Menu Easter Egg, the rearranging of icons, the Mii QR code, Graffiti, and being able to set DS games to 1:1 are all really cool.

Nintendo should print these cards on billboards
This would be the most fantastic advertising campaign ever. Imagine people in Time Square getting run over by cars because they are busy trying to find out what the mystery box billboard is! haha

It's hardware-based, not software-based, so it'll work with all DS games.
