Nintendo : buy Mario Kart 8 on the eShop or retail, get a free game

Oh, I'm glad Europe is getting more of an offer than that what was shown during the direct, I already have those 4. I think I'll go with Wonderful 101..

hmmm, I already own Pikmin 3, not really intrested in Mario Party or NSMBU. So I guess it is WWHD for me. I was never intending to get it, I loved the orginal. But I never ever play a SP game more than once. Lack the drive and too many other games I could be playing.

Best thing about this deal is that they're giving until July 31st to register the game, meaning I can get the coins for the next Club Nintendo year (been Platinum for a while now).

Pikmin is such an underrated franchise. The third one especially is absolutely amazing. I want more people to experience it.

Secret best Nintendo franchise. And it's really one of a kind. Character action/adventure/RTS with equal parts whimsy and dark themes. Great art design from the characters to the enemies.

Not sure if I'll go with Pikmin or Wind Waker.

My left wrist is in a cast till mid-June either way...can you play Pikmin with just the stylus?

No you can't. Don't think it has touch screen controls except for controlling the map or saying where the captains can go. It also has wii mote support so you can point where to go. Shame about your wrist i am kinda in the except same spot. Wrist injury and can't play to midjune so i wish you well. Really enjoyed pikmin so you should enjoy that in optimal form :p

I don't have a Wii U, but if I buy this game and register my code will I get the digital download code regardless?

I'm sure it's been asked.

I'm happy I'll have until E3 to decide if a Wii U is worth it or not. If they announce good shit come June 10th, I am definitely hopping on.

I have Pikmin, Zelda and The Wonderful 101, what should I chose?

For anyone who doesn't own it, The Wonderful 101 is a GREAT game, and would be my first choice for those who have not yet bought it.

Fucking amazing. I haven't gotten Pikmin 3 yet, and now I get it free?

This will be the third game I've gotten from Nintendo completely and totally free of charge in the last year.

Anyone got a download size for each game? I only own the basic model with small HDD.

I think these file sizes should perhaps be added to the OP to help make a decision. (But the correct answer is always Pikmin 3)

Mario Kart 8 - 4949.8 MB

New Super Mario Bros. U - 2301.7 MB
Wind Waker HD - 2440.0 MB
Pikmin 3 - 4541.1 MB
Wii Party U - 5156.9 MB

Nintendo Land - 3416.6 MB
MH3U - 7020.1 MB
Game and Wario - 3914.4 MB
Wonderful 101 - 12.8 GB
Sonic Lost World - 8474.6 MB
Mario and Sonic 2014 - 9741.4 MB

The 3ds is doing pretty well and Nintendo did a promotion for $30 eshop credit when you bought Fire Emblem and SMT, both very popular games. So I don't think your argument holds any water

Nintendo losing out on a $30 sale doesn't seem as bad as losing out on a $60 sale, does it? Like maybe this is twice as bad?

I just bought myself a White Wii U basic (no games so far) and just ordered Mario Kart from Tesco today.

For me, it's really a toss up between Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, and possibly Monster Hunter.

But, great job Nintendo, this is the sort of promo and marketing that will make some headlines for the Wii U

I will repeat myself to make sure you're not disappointed: The fine print says that the code must be redeemed before September 30th. So yes, but if you're planning to pick up your Wii U after that date, you won't be able to use it.

So, between Wii Party U and New Super Mario Bros. U, which is the better game to get free? I already have the retail version of New Super Luigi U as well.

Never played pikmin, but I highly suggest wwhd

Wow, that is really a hard decision. Get both. Totally worth it

Pikmin 3 is such an awesome game I had never played a Pikmin game before picking this one up and it's one of my favorites on the console, plus bingo battle to play some multi player

Honestly if you never played the original WW then just get WWHD. Pikmin 3 is a brilliant game but Wind Waker (HD) is a masterpiece.

You're lucky that WWHD can be the first time you experience it.

...well shit. If you have a wii remote and nunchuk, then it makes Pikmin a stronger proposition since the dual-analog controls aren't great IMO. If not, then go with Wind Waker.... and then get Pikmin later.

Thank you all for you recommendations, as of now im leaning towards getting WWHD through the promotion and Pikmin 3 in the future :]

Well now I have a new predicament on my hands. Do I need a special cable to use an external portable hard drive on the Wii U? I'm gonna need it for Pikman 3.

This is very tempting, but I'd rather have physical copies of all these games. So still no MK8 for me.

I assume you're talking about the get a digital game free? Because the MK8 is retail or digital and they'll give you a code for a digital game from the selections, you can still get a physical copy and most likely sell the code

Looks like I'll finally be getting Wonderful 101.

Edit:
NOOO!!!

I already own all of those. Oh well, my gaming plate is already completely full right now anyway.
You could sell the digital code.

I.might do that since I own all those already except Wii Party U.

Just a Y USB cable if your hard drive doesnt come with its own power supply.

I only got NintendoLand and Wii Party U on that list.

It's gonna be tough choosing between New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

No Club Nintendo in Sweden :(((

I guess you could try getting around it by buying a UK (PEGI Rated) or German (USK rated) game and creating a Club Nintendo account from their respective website. AFAIK it doesn't require any address details and the free game will be sent to you via email as a download code. You just wouldn't be able to enjoy the physical benefits to Club Nintendo.

I'm disappointed that NA doesn't have as much to offer as EU does, especially considering I already own the games I want from the NA titles, but a free game is still a nice surprise when I wasn't expecting anything at all.

Wait, are we able to give these codes away or is it locked to our Nintendo ID? I might just give it to a friend.

In past game give-aways upon registering the promotional game on club nintendo a banner appears and you get to choose your free game, then a code is emailed to you which you use or give away if you like.
At least that has been the case with the 3DS XL promotion (got Animal Crossing for free) and Monster Hunter 3U (gave a copy to a fellow Gaffer).
