Nintendo confirms - No VRR for Switch 2 in TV mode

Nintendo are the biggest joke in the industry. We're in the year 2025 where VRR has been the standard for YEARSSSSS and they're launching a new console without VRR in docked mode. Holy shit what an embarrassment and i don't wanna see one person defending clown crap like this.

So this will mean that terrible framerates will be handheld exclusive, right?

The terrible framerates will be in docked mode. You got no VRR support for when you dock your switch meaning on the big screen i'd expect screen tearing and uneven frame pacing nonstop and there's no VRR to save it.

Asking nintendo to pay for a better HDMI chip or do anything pro consumer is like asking Mr.Krabs for a raise.

I mean I can't deny that lool.

But honestly I didn't get my Switch 2 out of any expectation other than legally playing Switch 1 titles at better settings. I don't really understand all the hyping up of this machine's graphics and upscaling capabilities, that's not really what Nintendo is about, at least for now.

Didn't PS5 launch without VRR? Hopefully they can add it in an update.

The ps5 launched with an hdmi 2.1 port. I'm pretty sure that the switch 2 dosen't have an hdmi 2.1 port at all but someone can correct me if i'm wrong. I don't think the switch 2 is even capable of VRR in docked mode tbh.

Honestly my beef with nintendo is the fact they used to be more pro consumer then they used to be. Now they just put two middle fingers in the air and try nickle and diming consumers over every little thing to the point that it's insane. The biggest one to me that happened a couple of years ago is when they lauched the 3D mario all-stars collection on switch only for a limited time and then stopped selling it both physically and on the nintendo e-shop loll.

I like it. It keeps everyone on the same level. Currently I have to deal with a lot of complaining from PS5 owners who don't have VRR, so it will be nice to have everyone on the same level.

Nintendo = democracy
Sony = constitutional republic
Xbox = monarchism
Gamepass = communism
PC = chaos

I'm actually kinda encouraged by this thread.

I half expected Nintendo fanboys to tell us that actually VRR kinda sucks and we're wrong for wanting it, and anyway VRR TVs are too expensive and not mainstream yet.

Wow that's pretty shitty.

They probably removed support so they can keep that as a value add for the OLED model down the line.

Isn't it related to the dock?

What I could see happening is them stealth release an updated dock in a few years that is never officially announced and if you want VRR you will have to buy that new dock...

Lol, are you playing games at 40fps VRR or something?

Doom Dark Ages at 100-120fps VRR is the opposite of choppy.
Yes that's what I'm referring to. If you are playing on console then most applications of VRR will be in some kind of performance mode that doesn't quite hit 60fps. In that range it looks shit.

How many Switch 2 games do you expect to be playing at 100fps?

Exactly, so developers should optimise it more

Expecting nintendo to add a quality of life feature is just too much. This is the same company who made a garbage smartphone App just so you could use voice chat on your original switch after all. Come on man there's no defending this and you know it.
