Elden Ring Switch 2 running in handheld mode gameplay video

Literally unplayable (but at least works better than the original release, when it has been awarded as one of the best games ever made).

I might pick this up because I'll mostly be playing in DOCKED mode (which is funny, since my TV is my substitute Switch 2 Pro, with 4K 120hz and VRR). I'll probably pick up a Switch 2 Pro for my portable joint.

Would IGN just go and create a fake clickbait article??

I'm more concerned about how Elden Ring plays on the Switch 2 with the smaller Joycons. Especially when it comes to precise movements and quick reactions, I can't really imagine the Joycons being very good.

Do you have any experience with them?

My experience is that I hate the joycons so much that my Switch 1 Pro Controller stick rubber wore out and I was sad because I wanted to play Zelda so I had to get another controller... The thing is that I have two pairs of joycon 1 and a pair of joycon 2, they never crossed my mind as an option lol I really hate playing on these things

Constant, visible sub-30fps framerate and slowdowns = "looks and runs really good®"

70 Eurodollars for a 5 year old game.

You can't make this shit up, the amount of cope is really something else, unfortunately, once again, no one can take such opinions seriously...
If it seems like there's a lot of people "coping", maybe we're not the ones coping.

Not that I'll ever play this as I'm not a fan of From Software games, BUT the clips I've seen seem to be running kinda ok, not too bad?

Ffs the game released 3 years ago, and then you're like « you can't make this shit up »
These people will always find ways to bitch whenever others like what they don't lol, but I'm gonna apply the same logic: A game in 2022 that also came to PS4 can't even maintain consistent 60 fps on current gen consoles? You can't make this shit up

And it also includes Shadow of the Erdtree, which was just released last year.

I don't think we've seen enough evidence to be confident that the performance issues have been solved (and, in fact, it doesn't make sense that they would have a dramatically different build ready less than a week later) but the "old port" schtick is played out at this point, especially when it's wildly exaggerated.

I haven't played Elden Ring yet, so I don't care if it's an old port, but I do hope From and Bandai take the time to get this in a playable state before they push it out the door.

New Digital Foundry video starts off with discussing Final Fantasy 7 & Elden Ring on Switch 2, John Linneman calls the performance "basically unacceptable".

How many times are people gonna try to tell others what is playable and what is not? Yeah, probably too many.
We get it, you think Switch 2 is a disgrace and people who pay full price for a new release of an old game are dumb fucks.
But these dumb fucks can one up you, in that they actually just enjoy playing a video game, imagine that. Sub 30 with 720p upscaled. It doesn't matter. They will enjoy it, on the big screen, in handheld on the couch, in bed, at work and on the shitter...while you bitch and moan and try to tell others that it is unplayable and unacceptable. Miserable motherfuckers.
All the people who never experienced Eden Ring... Have fun, regardless of the naysayers.

videogames are the only form of media where people defend shit like this btw.

Defend bad performance or these miserable fucks?

Watch Pi from 1998. Oh my god, it's black and white...pretty grainy, too. Yeah, but it shits on modern day Hollywood in a triangle.
It's always a trade-off between performance and visuals. And then you have people just not capable to release a technically sufficient video game. You can decide if you want to pay money to these people or not. And you can decide if you want to tell others over the internet that it is not acceptable to support these Devs. I know who the bigger idiot is in my opinion.

people defending badly made products are indeed the bigger idiots.

And that is objective fact, of course. Not possible to let others just decide for themselves in 2025.
It's either 120fps in 4k or you can gtfo and never produce a video game in your life, devs.
Of course there will be badly produced products. But people have different opinions and perspectives. I don't give a fuck about most performance problems and just enjoy the game if it's good for me because there are more important factors...to me. Others, like yourself, see performance as the most important factor in video games, and that is legitimate, too. 🤷‍♂️

I don't see performance as one of the most important factors. I just don't defend bad performance.

I played elden ring on Series X. that port was also a badly made product. verifiability so in fact.
I enjoyed it. GOTY easily for me at the time.
yet, I would never try to defend it.

both the PS5 and Series X ports of Elden Ring are verifiably badly made ports. veryfiably so thanks to the PS4 Pro version, which runs at a very stable 60fps when played on PS5. meaning FromSoft had every possibility to make the game have a stable 30fps mode and a stable 60fps mode, but didn't bother. ergo, badly made product. especially on PS5 because there you had no way to "fix" the issue with VRR.

I saw people defending the sequels

that's not a technical issue. on a technical level those movies were near flawless.

a correct analogy would be a Bluray release of those movies where every 4th frame would just be missing, while every 10th frame would be displayed for 4x the length of a normal frame.

noone would defend that. it would be insane to defend that.
