I don't believe it was mentioned in the last thread, but it appears that Polarium Advance has recently been rated for Wii U VC.

DS version was decent, but I hit my dexterity cap on it fairly soon into it, and there wasn't too much I could do about it - there's only so fast you can move.
The set puzzles where you just had to figure out how to solve them were fun though.

Fun fact: One of the few cases where the sequel (this game) came out on an older platform than the first game (Polarium on the DS). And by "few cases" I mean the only case I can thnk of.

I remember that. I have to wonder how that came about, it's very unusual.

Could Gargoyle's Quest count?

Street Fighter II -> Street Fighter 2010 :p

Would Mighty Final Fight count? Granted that's a spin-off but the main series was on SNES & then MFF came out on NES between 2 & 3.

There should be a demo or two on the eShop.

I mean, the crazy thing with Polarium is that a direct sequel came out on an older machine of the same lineage (DS > GBA).

I consider NES -> GB sort of a half-step but really, it's arguably part of a concurrent "generation", and bets are always off with spin-offs, anyways, especially during those days. With the business side of games getting more professional, it's crazy to see something like Polarium Advance in '06, although I'm sure there's some kind of story behind it.

From what I've read about it, they added some new things as well as including a significant amount of new puzzles so you have to wonder what got in the way of just putting out a sequel on DS.

Maybe they thought the unique controls would be enough to justify the smaller install base, but found that wasn't the case, and decided to go for the system with the larger install base.

IIRC they were really pushing it as a flagship title for GBm and trying to show off how easily it could be played in one hand.

They're going to add more games in February, right? Or is the current lineup the last batch until the service ends in June?

For Club Nintendo? Yes, we're suppose to get more games in Feb & then the Gold/Platinum rewards, which are more digital games, will be available the entire month of April.

Bought a 64 GB Micro SDXC card this week. Did the transfer.

Only issue is I only have 11 GB left! Probably getting close to the 300 app limit as well!

Hopefully by the time I hit the limit 128 GB Micro cards will be affordable.

Amazon finally shipped my 32GB MicroSD card & spare 3DS charger (& Konami Shmup book by HG101)....though still need to figure out if I can afford a New 3DS XL at launch. If it weren't for those darn amiibo, I could probably work my budget out.

Amiibos had to go for me to get a NEW 3DS XL.

But part of the point of getting the New XL is so I can use amiibo on stuff like Codename Steam!

If I could sell a few more of my games/get some more GS credit either by trading games in or gift cards, maybe I can work things out. I might have to lose out on trading my OG 3DS at launch & get about $15 less in exchange on waiting to get more funds & gift cards.

I feel like I should wait until April when I do my yearly part-time job & earn about $100 or until another LE system is announce, but damn that's too long considering I'm getting Majora's Mask 3D & the statue (which after gift cards will cost about $15 or even $10), plus I wanna get Codename Steam as well.

Maybe I'll have some luck again in the BST thread.

Has anyone encountered an issue where they are completely unable to download a Wii VC game, whether on the Wii U or not? On a Wii U, I tried downloading Neutopia to an SD card, but it kept giving me an SD card removal error. I was able to download other games, play games from the SD card, etc.

If I tried to download the game to the main menu the download would complete, but there'd be no channel for it. It did show us as a channel in the settings menu, but it was a lot smaller of a file (26 blocks and it's supposed to be 97) and just showed up as a question mark.

Weirdest thing ever. All the more reason to get TG-16 games on the Wii U.

I'm going to have to wait until mid-March to get a New 3DS.
The wait is going to be horrible =(

Had planned on getting one at launch, but my 3DSXL with the glued hinge is holding up much better than I feared. Now with the new Fire Emblem coming, going to wait to see if there's a special edition and/or bonus for using n3DSXL with the game. :)

Hi New Thread!

I'm going to get DKC complaining out of my system and per TheMoon's sage advice I'm not going to mention it for the rest of the month (unless of course we actually get it this month!), after this post.

So, NOA. Please bring the DKC games to the Wii U eShop. I wanna play them. Especially DKC2 and 3. I want to play those most.

Less this:

More this:

Okay, exhaling. Alright. Done! :)

Geeze, can't believe it's February already (well, tomorrow).
Tempus fugit.

Also, RIP Club Nintendo =(

That's what your Latin use made me think of. Kinda off-topic, but funny.

Most importantly: tolkir, thank you as always for your hard work on these threads! It's immensely appreciated!

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
So is Mother 3 available in English? Is it possible for NoA to bring it to the eShop at some point or are there too many legal issues? I know there's a GBA version from a quick google check. Would love to play it after my first playthrough of Earthbound is over.

So glad I'm getting a New 3DS this (coming) month. The 2DS just is not doing it for me, and I want dat XL screen back.

Hell, I'm not even touching the Codename STEAM demo until February 13, then starting Monster Hunter whaaaargarbl

Available? Yes. From Nintendo? No. Could they do it with the localization that exists? If they want, but they'd probably roll their own if it came to it.

The fan translation is ace, and they've given Nintendo full permission to use it officially, but I doubt Nintendo would ever use a fan translation regardless of quality, and they're not likely to translate it themselves so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an official English release.

Whoa, new thread. This is going to be a good month. For one, my birthday is in it, and... well, that's all I got. But if you want something hard enough and your heart is pure, wondrous things can happen!

Excave is going to be $4.99.

It's a top down, hack-n-slash RPG by a team called Mechanical Arms--they also did the Steel Empire remake.
If I got this right, there are two Excave games, right? Is this the newest one? It could be interesting.

Not "officially" available in English
It's possible that NOA could translate it and bring it over - but that's not happening for the VC.
It's not a matter of "legal issues" - they just would never consider using a fan translation.

Mother 3 for GBA is absolutely amazing though.
I imported it as soon as it came out in Japan, played through it numerous times in Japanese despite not knowing the language (at first just by feel, and then with online text translations), and then many more times with the fan translation.

I highly, highly recommend playing it.
But, the only option of it seeing light over here is as a new/repackaged game (say, a Mother Collection or something).
There's no chance whatsoever of the GBA game being brought over for the VC, with translation or no.

I say this as a Mathematician:
There is precisely a 0% chance of it happening.

Not "slim"
Not "approaching 0"
Precisely 0.
Given an infinitely expanding universe, this would never happen.
There does not exist a universe where this happens.

That is to say, I think you should import the GBA game.

Thanks Ondore and BooJoh for the info, I guess it's not happening. I realized if Earthbound is Mother 2, there's a Mother 1? Is that worth playing?

Bahaha you paint a detailed and hopeless picture terrisus :p
Is Mother 3 a direct sequel to Earthbound btw? (Though I hope Earthbound doesn't end on a cliffhanger/has a satisfying ending) Or does it take place in the same world as Onett? Or is this like most Final Fantasy gmaes where it's a new world/characters with no ties to the previous game?

Yes, there's a Mother 1, which is a NES game. It's actually fully translated, and not by fans as Nintendo did translate the game but never released it outside Japan, since apparently it was way too late in the NES run (SNES was already out by then, I believe). Mother 1 is also referred to by fans as Earthbound Zero.

Mother 3 takes place in the same universe as Earthbound yet the locations and characters are widely different. There's a clear connection between the two games and M3 often references events in EB, however, M3's story is very self-contained and you don't need to play EB to enjoy it. I still recommend to finish EB before starting M3 so you get the best experience out of both games.

Just to be clear, I wasn't meta-complaining about complaining.^^

Just was a suggestion in regard to everyone's sanity that expecting something that's not announced might make the wait feel more arduous than it needs to. :)

Anyway, happy February! May we one day have somewhat equal libraries amongst us all!

Thread worthy?
http://www.gameblogs.net/go/kadokaw...dea-the-sky-soldier-will-be-released-overseas

Apparently, in the Famitsu issue that re-revealed Rodea, Kadokawa Games president heavily hinted at an overseas release of Rodea but nobody seem to have caught on that bit of that article.

Sounds like it to me, for sure!

Oh, I didn't think you were :)

I just thought it was genuinely good advice. I appreciate it!

Yeah, while I think Max was fine (and goodness knows I have my complaints about the lack of Square-Enix stuff we've gotten), I think in general it's much more enjoyable to discuss the stuff we have, instead of stuff we don't have (or, even worse, complaining about stuff we already have just because it isn't on sale).

Hopefully this will be a month mostly free of that!

I still can't quite fathom that they dropped Metroid Prime Trilogy on us like that for that price. Thoughts go out to the guys over in Japan - however few of them that would care - that would have wanted it too, because they did get Kirby instead and none of the Prime games were even mentioned in the Direct for them!

I'm curious if they go with weekly or random Wii re-releases (Wiirelease? /slaps self) now. Guess we'll find out tomorrow!
