Agreed. Even if it was ready, they'd be in a much better space releasing the first week of October. Only 3 games to compete with then, as far as I know: Superbeat Xonic EX, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Axiom Verge.
By now, I have to agree with this, although the first October week can easily become a 10-game release week as well. (I think next week only had 2 scheduled releases when September started, now that has grown to around 10 games next week.)
BTW, I read that there were 46 Switch games present at TGS, which is the same as 3DS+Wii U last year.

Nope™, Switch eShop updates on Thursday in Japan (though it seems some/most games go live at midnight, so technically Wednesday afternoon/evening in Europe).
I thought for a second the September 27th release could be due to simultaneous release at 12AM JST, but it's also listed as September 27th for Japan, so...

It >is< releasing on an odd day, though we don't really know why. Release dates get shuffled when the usual eShop update day falls on a public holiday, but that's not the case here so really got no idea.

Has it ever been mentioned why the Switch doesn't just automatically download purchases made on the Nintendo online store, but instead needs to be woken up first? Sort of defeats the purpose of buying through a browser if you still need access to the system to actually get anything.

It does. It just doesn't check the server as frequently as you might want it to. I've turned my Switch on a few times and went "oh, I bought this!"

For local vs. mode, I personally think Tumblestone is a better game than Puoy Puyo Tetris.

I'm sorry, I wasn't meaning to ignore it at all. I understand about the odd day, I just wasn't so much surprised about that as I was surprised about the spotlight omission.
I agree completely, but there's no limit on games they can focus on in the spotlight, and AFAIK every other first party release to this point has been featured therein.

Surprisingly, Arcade Archives: Mario Bros. isn't a first party release. It's being published by Hamster. They partnered with Nintendo for these classic arcade releases.
Because capcom hates both nintendo and me and don't want CPS2 beat em ups on the switch ='(

Volgarr is awesome, I played it on Xbox One and loved it. Tempted to get it again on Switch but probably don't need it again.

These are the only impressions I've seen posted online thus far. Sounds fairly promising though I still don't have much interest myself.
It's a little more believable when you consider it's out on the Dreamcast. Anyone here played it? I'm sorta stressed out just thinking about the difficulty.

I played the JPN version (which lacks online play) and felt like it's a good game but a really bad value for that price, much less the extra $10-$15 that Dispatch is charging for it. The lack of the arcade game's tower mode leaves a void that the practice/time trial/challenge modes just don't fill. The game's versus mode is not very good IMO, so adding online play seems kind of pointless.
Wait for a sale.
edit: And before I forget to mention it, Soldam: Drop Connect Erase and Soldam: Bloom Declaration (the Japanese version) are not considered the same game on the eShop. Suppose it makes sense given the online mode, but something to watch out for.
