I really believe if they had shown the Retro game instead of the fireworks, most of you would feel completely different about the conference. I know I would.
I understand trying to show only launch related games, but that's ridiculous not to give us at least one more game to look forward to. We've know about this game for some time now, it's been in production for quite a while, why not show it to us?
Nah, Pacman was 2003.Thing is, Nintendo's E3 04 wasn't even that good. It's just remembered fondly due to Zelda. Wasn't that the year they devoted all that time to Pacman Vs.?
E3 06 was probably their best moment, all things considered.
Next gen will be different from those games?Next-gen needs to come quickly. All 3 failing to utterly impress seems to be a sign that people are getting tired of the same old military shooters, sports games and Mario over and over.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this happened.
How do you launch a console with no games?
How do you spend a section of your conference talking about a game that released last year on everyone else's console?
How do you take a year of absolute silence to prepare for a big rereveal after the disappointing initial announcement, and then show the exact same things you showed last year? Especially when studios like Retro and Monolith have surely been working on something for 2 years now.
How do you put absolutely no effort into combatting the rumors that your system is severely underpowered? Just one stage demo of a graphically impressive, Wii U exclusive game. That's it. That's all you needed to do.
The entire thing is just mind-boggling. They had all the cards in their hands. They could've just shown off three good, new announcements and been declared the indisputable winners of E3. I'm sure they have them! I'm sure their studios are working on Wii U games, and they're not all like Nintendoland and Wii Fit U!
I notice Idea Man has been very quiet since the E3 show...

You are absolutely correct. I am 100% sure Retro has something they could show that would blow us away. That's all they needed.
And what the fuck was showing off Batman?!? At least show off a game that hasn't released yet.
It was like they were intentionally trying to lose.
He posted some "REDEMPTION" post (2 u-pads, which who didn't see coming) and then went on meltdown-control for awhile before giving up I guess.
Depends. He might have been legitimately surprised. Maybe he expected it to be even worse.
*shrugs* I mean, Last of Us looks good. Kind of like a combination Uncharted and Ico. But I'm not a tremendous fan of the Uncharted titles, so all I can amount at the moment is begrudging respect. Frankly, the only company that I feel came out ahead after its conference was Ubisoft. Those fuckers did it right.

As I said earlier, somebody should really be fired over this. It was an all-around failure. There are so many things they could have done and just didn't.
It was nonsensical.
Yeah Ubisoft was amazing but the stuff ND are accomplishing with Last of Us is mind blowing. Knowing that for how cinematic the presentation was that that is all based on procedural AI and the situation and not a scripted encounter blows me away. We have never seen anything like that ever.
Sure. I know what you mean.
It is just, i was really expecting at least Nintendo to show some High-Profile Game, with graphics like Uncharted or something like that to show off the graphical cababilities of the new Hardware.
Right now I would think the WiiU is just a 360 from the graphical standards.
(Besides I didnt even zoom in. Just used the pic from the official Nintendo-Page)
No that was 2003. I'll never forget when Miyamoto showed off Pac Man vs and after just dead silence and he asks "Why aren't they clapping?" It was that year's "Where's the love?" (dumb NOA guy from this year)
edit: It also was the very moment that sparked this infamous image of some very disinterested IGN editors:
Someone made a thread about this before the Nintendo conference and people seemed to laugh at the possibility. From everything Shiggy said at the beginning of the conference I would assume YES you absolutely can play the games solely on the gamepad, but I dont think there is any official statement.can you play wii games using only the gamepad as a display?

What the fuck have Nintendo been doing for the past year?!
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this happened.

Well, I assume this was put together by the high ups at Nintendo.
What is scary to me is the thought that they still do not understand how precarious their position is.
They launched retreads of casual franchises that IMO are highly unlikely to have the sort of impact Wii Sports had.
They announced zero compelling software for the hardcore types (I know Pikmin, but that is still relatively niche).
I just..I don't get it. They are going to sell a $300 dollar machine off NSMB and Nintendo Land?

They can sell it off NSMB. That's a definite.
I honestly don't think Nintendoland will be selling systems because as we saw today it's too difficult to explain without actually playing it.
Wii Sports was easy--you could package everything you needed to show in a 30- to 60-second commercial because the game was so simple. It took a guy 10 minutes to fully explain ONE minigame today, and even then people were confused.
I have a bad feeling this system has a terrible run.

Back home. So the conference ended up having no info on the console or the online system, no major third party announcements (besides a few games that have already been released on PCS360) and some first party games that seem to have been underwhelming in terms of graphics, with no mention of what's coming later down the line? What the Hell.
I like what I'm seeing.
Nintendoland The Legend of Zelda Battle Quest (Wii Sports Sword Multiplayer Fight Game), , the Nintendoland Luigis Mansion Pac Man Game, Namcos superfun arcade killer Tank Tank Tank, that new Platinum Games game, Nintendoland Chaser Mr.X game, Nintendoland Donkey Kong game all look super multiplayer fun.
Nintendo is promoting Nintendoland big time and it seems like Nintendo wants to digitalize multiplayer party board games.
This is something we won't see from other console publishers. Simple, fast, local, arcade multiplayer fun. Everyone can join in an instant.
Something that's very rare today, just remember that Xbox conference and the movie-like blockbuster games. Games where you can actually PLAY and not watch cutscenes, intros, quick time events.

And Rayman Legends aswell as Super Mario Bros Wii-U (2D-Mario as launch is also showing which way Nintendo is heading) seem to continue Nintendo Console Jump and Run tradition, two very nice launch games.

I got my GBA games aaaages ago. Seriously, I cannot even begin to understand how there was not one bomb to be dropped.Converting old GBA games to run on the 3DS to fulfill obligations to "ambassadors".
