Nintendo E3 2014 - discussion thread for their E3 plans

Metroid isn't happening on Wii U. I'd be shocked if we saw any more high budget projects for the system at this point, besides Zelda.

It'll be Mario sports titles and Kirby games until the thing dies a slow, painful death in 2017.

We will see, but I don't think we get more sports game. Casual won't move the Wii U further and I thought they got that now.

Skyward sword win for me.

I laughed, thanks!

WIi U:

- They'll talk about Mario Kart 8, even if it released two weeks before E3.
- Hyrule Warriors
- Bayonetta 2
- SMT x FE
- Pokken Fighter (NFC)
- Zelda Wii U
- Smash (New characters)

3DS:

- Majora's Mask 3D
- Metroid
- Smash (new characters + release date)

Oddball:

- Crazy Nintendo x 3rd Party collaboration on one of Nintendo's IP
Unless it's DLC talk which I doubt I'd be pissed if the talk about MK8 for more than a minute , About the collaboration its definitely Murasame castle X Fatal frame

Just for you guys I got a real classic gif. My question is though... do you feel the hype?

The thing about Nintendo Is that they could reveal anything. I would have never guessed a game Like Hyrule Warriors would have ever been announced. Hell they revealed Bayonetta 2 and looked what happened to the internet.

I love how almost at all times you can see the letter N and E on the train, making it seems like it's REALLY called NeoGAF Hype Train.

Wow, I never noticed that before. Really nice attention to the detail from the creator!

It will be the ocarina of time, for the modern age :x

Hopefully! I want a new Shadow Temple in HD :D I hope Nintendo isn't scared to put some scary things in Zelda U, like they did with Majora, Twilight and Ocarina. Kids today aren't scared of something like that and eitherway, they are playing CoD.

I was very pleased with the Smash 4 and Kart 8 Directs. The Digital Event being something of a Direct Festival could be exciting for folks like me. From 9AM to 9PM, Nintendo could show off its lineup of games, each with their own 20-30 minute Direct. They could alternate between Wii U and 3DS Directs. QoL could have its own Direct. There could be a Direct for upcoming services and system updates as well.

There could be 15-20 minute recesses between Directs that feature commentary and other fun stuff. For example, after the Zelda U Direct, they could give viewers a behind the scenes look at its development. Maybe after the QoL Direct, they'd show off some highlights from the Smash 4 tournament, which could still be in progress at the time. Maybe after the Bayonetta 2 Direct, we'd get Kamiya's Top 10 Platinum Enemies featuring highlight footage of Kamiya engaged in combat with those enemies from various PG games and sharing what it is he loves about those designs.

Host this in an auditorium filled with Nintendo fans who can come and go as they please. Have plenty of Nintendo themed refreshments and souvenirs for the audience on deck.

My issues is that I'm not into Zelda. Original NES, OoT, TP, SS... wasn't able to make it through any of them.

I also am not into Smash at all. (I know, I need my Nintendo fandom card revoked due to these two things, right?)

Therefore to blow me away personally, it would probably take a bunch of extravagant shit.

But realistically, if they get N64 VC going with a decent early lineup, a new X trailer that knocks my socks off, and at least one unannounced game and/or new IP that I can get at least moderately excited about, I'll be satisfied. And maybe a confirmation of Fatal Frame coming to North America with a teaser. Doesn't seem like TOO much to ask.

Separately, I'm expecting nothing, but a couple nice 3rd party announcements couldn't hurt. At least confirm the only pointer controlled FPS in town (CoD Postmodern Advanced Rehash 11... I know... I know... but I'd buy it).

My expectations for their main event:

Talk of announced/recently released games. Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Tomodachi, Mario Golf, Hyrule Warriors, Kirby. Re-reveal of Yoshi Yarn and SMTxFE for release this holiday. X shown in more detail, but delayed to 2015. Zelda teaser, 2015.

Some third party stuff. Sonic Boom and Watch Dogs probably the top candidates to be discussed.

Probably one new WiiU game we don't know about for this holiday season (and not Metroid, F-Zero, or Star Fox), and a few 3DS announcements since they don't have much announced for the rest of the year. One will probably be DQ7 or Bravely Second for next year. Majora's Mask has been teased enough that would make sense for this holiday.

No new hardware. QoL is not discussed because it isn't relevant to E3.

Gosh, all I want is the Zelda to be like that tech demo. Would buy the Wii U that day too. I really want to know the fate of Metroid, cause its been years since Other M.

i really don't think we're gonna see Zelda this year. Wouldn't that take the wind out of Hyrule Warriors' sails?

They've shown multiple Zelda titles before. Just last year they announced both Wind Waker HD and Link Between Worlds. In 2011, we saw a gorgeous Wii U Zelda tech demo, months before the launch of Skyward Sword.

I doubt a musou game that is slated for Summer 2014 is going to effect their announcement of a new, mainline Zelda that will likely release during the holiday season of 2015.

I was just thinking about this the other day. When I played OoT back when it was first released, I couldn't ignore the sense of loneliness and melancholy. I think the capabilities of the N64 aided that, because we ended up with such a solitary journey - one that felt both strangely uninhabited and mysterious.

I think that's why Dark Souls is so popular, because it sets this expansive journey upon you and you're alone and it's difficult and you're afraid to die. I don't want to compare games because Zelda is its own special entity, but what I remember about my first playthrough of OoT were those very same feelings. Even to this day I am impressed by the overall tone of the game. The Hero of Time has such a heavy burden, and once he grows up and awakens, shit gets real.

If anything, I'd like to see enemies placed with importance. I'd like to feel relief and satisfaction after I've cleared an area or dungeon because it was challenging. I wish to be genuinely fearful for Hyrule and see for myself why it needs to be saved and therefore will want to save it.

I feel like Link as a character is under-utilized and he has untapped potential. He's a hero - I'd like to see the legend come alive and humbly kick some ass.

My dream Zelda U would be one that looks like Shadow of the Colossus/TP(more detailed though). Kind of like a realistic look but still one with a distinct art style.

I fully agree with you, I love the more melancholy Zelda games. What was also great about OoT's atmosphere is it's ambivalence. For example you get a happy lighthearted market but in a street there's a dying soldat nobody knows about and in the future it's completely destroyed. Or you get a happy Kakariko Village with relaxing atmosphere, but deep down you have a bloody torture chamber with a enemy that could came from Silent Hill. That's something that makes Zelda really special and I hope they drive this even further in Zelda U, but not hope, I expect this.

Have this tiny feeling that we will see a Metroid reveal, developed by another surprising studio. Probs not Team Ninja again :lol

I hope the next Zelda hides spites of Link all over the world much like the hidden Luigis in the last few Mario games and NES Remix 2. It's one of my favourite easter eggs in a long time.

I hope. But I guess Metroid doesn't really sell systems? I mean its almost been 4 years since Other M.

It doesn't sell systems but it, Smash and Zelda get the most "OMG HYPE" reaction at E3s.

I know they aren't going to do a stageshow again but it'd be a title that got a lot of attention.

It would also fit a need.

Metroid's not like your commonplace "mature" title but the Wii U needs a bit more Xs to balance out the lineup of stellar cartoony games.

There are great Zelda fan arts from a user, please take a look:

I would love to see that art style in Zelda U, it resembles Zelda perfectly! Oh... of course in 3D!

My only guess: Majora's Mask 3D, slated to be released during the Fall.

Otherwise I'm not expecting much else, just talking about currently planned to-be-released titles like X, Zelda U, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, etc. Maaaaaybe we'll finally get a better look at Yarn Yoshi? And maaaaaaybbbeeee we'll get a look at SMT x FE? But I doubt it, just wishful thinking.

Zelda U will show at E3, it's Aonuma's word. But released in 2015, because it is Zelda.

No Metroid other big Nintendo franchise, but a new and awesome Miyamoto game.

This Digital Event will have garbage like the "precious time spent"

While it's easy to ask for ______ to be revealed, or for ______ to get a release date, more than ever I want Nintendo to improve their online ecosystem. They basically confirmed a proper account system. I want to hear more about it.

Also, I want to see them strive for a consistent fucking release schedule. The droughts have to stop. Do whatever it takes to have some consistency and quality. The third party collaborations are great, but expand on that with more western third party publishers.

Can you imagine the buzz Nintendo would get if they announced that they have exclusive collaborations with Bethesda, Take Two, EA, Activision, WB Games, and more including more collaborations with Japanese third party publishers? Everyone would start taking the Wii U seriously.

Aside from outright paying Japanese companies for ports, I suspect 3rd parties are lost.

I am baffled by Nintendo (so far) not having a dedicated program for HD releases of GC and Wii titles. Its easy money and fills gaps in the schedule.

i really dont know...

I can't help over thinking this.

I get the feeling like OoT->MM->Zelda Wii U

Maybe at the end of OoT, Zelda ends up sending Adult Link to another place all together.

I'm super hyped for
Zelda U
X
Bayo 2
Smash
and hopefully we finally see Pokken and Majora's Mask 3D

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say here... Link was sent back to the past at the end of OoT and then Navi left him because his quest was over and he wasn't a Kokiri. Link then went out looking for her and MM happened. Adult Link and child Link are the same character, the adult timeline no longer had a Link because he was sent back to his childhood and as such when Ganon came back the Goddesses had to flood Hyrule and then WW happened.

Just imagining another scenario where Zelda accidently sends Adult Link somewhere else by playing her song, not back in time. What if in between MM and TP there was a third arc that explains the Hero's Shade? What if the Hero of Time had another adventure separate from MM? I'm just having fun thinking, that's all. :)

Masahiro Sakurai already told us that it is unlikely Smash Bros will include DLC as he prefers to pack everything into the game from the start. I very much doubt Aonuma is going to prioritize DLC over the start of a new prototype for the next Zelda game/ have some of the staff assigned to different projects within EAD.

There is no way that Sonic Boom and some indie stuff won't be shown.

And that's a problem that Iwata has admitted to, so I wanna see them fix the problem and actually COLLABORATE with more developers.

It's pretty much the only way to get third party exclusives now, and they might as well go that way.
