Nintendo not having an E3 press conference for the second year in a row

I am really surprised people don't care about no live conference.

Is texting someone the same as having an actual date in person ? Its about leaving an impact and reaffirming your presence.

Its mostly psychological but its still important.

Nintendo consistently chooses to ignore all that ,and this was absolutely evident last year when Microsoft and Sony hogged all the spotlight while Nintendo did a relatively low key live stream.

Its really not good at all.

Their Nintendo Direct was great from a home viewer perspective last E3, so I'm totally fine with this. It was shorter than the others, but without so much of the pointless fluff, more focus on games, which is far better really. Plus don't get me started on cheering/clapping for the stupidest things lol (although true hype like Twilight Princess is awesome).

I think the fluff is part of the spectacle of E3, it's one of the reasons I get excited for it. Sure the game announcements are the main thing, but I watch E3 for the stuff that happens on stage, usually the mess-ups and audience misreads, but still.

So they're just giving up now?

I don't understand comments like this. I feel like Nintendo is looking at the supposedly millions of dollars that go into investing so much into a press conference and want to know how they can use that money to instead get the games from the conference in the hands of the actual consumers. Its a brave new method for them to try during a time when people have already counted them out, but shows that Nintendo is all about changing paradigms whether it seems like a good idea or not lol and we need that freshness.

So no, they're not fucking giving up. What does that even mean in reaction to this move?

Oh Nintendo, what are you doing?

Because E3 has become all about image. As I said, look at all the crap in the run up to E3 last year of people spreading that Nintendo was skipping E3. Even to this day people say that they completely skipped it.
While that was probably a factor, a lot of the people that still say they skipped it didn't just hear that. They probably didn't even see it on the usual E3 streaming sites. GT, IGN, and GS probably didn't even have it on their schedules, and they didn't stream it on their sites. They may have mentioned it on their site, but probably in a separate blog post. If you didn't actively follow Nintendo it might have been hard to even know about it.

Probably all down to the Zelda U teaser. Do they normally say stuff like this?

I'd expect Zelda U to be there, they're going to have to announce a bunch of stuff but I don't expect many new Wii U titles. I don't think there's ANY post E3 3DS titles due from Nintendo apart from Smash Bros, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Already a thread discussing their plans. This serves no purpose.
