Nintendo of America not allowing SSBM to be streamed at EVO [Up: Decision Reversed]

They arent getting the 5 million casual markets so they better start taking care of their 100k markets

The sooner nintendo start to realize this, the better

Yeah. Think of people as nodes rather than isolated islands. A lot of the people they're pissing off are well-connected.

What am I defending here? Pointing out that saying Inaba and Sega would "regret" letting Nintendo give them money is a stupid thing to say?

You think it feels nice to spend years working on a game only for it to be enjoyed by 100k people, when it could have been enjoyed by [Insert Bayonetta 1 sales] people?

And absolutely their pay is based on the sales performance of this game.

But I don't wish to derail this thread. So continue this conversation with me in a PM.

About the only thing dumber they could do in the near future is attack SDA's upcoming charity marathon to not feature anything of theirs---this whole thing is just bafflingly nuts.

There's an obvious thinking flaw here in that they don't consider that many of those people are brand advocates. They're the people who'd invite friends to play in dorms, at their house, and would organize local events. They're the early adopters that in part drive more people to pick up the console because they had fun with it at a friend's house, or because a close friend can't stop talking out it in real life, on twitter, facebook or etc. Network effects lead to a broader adoption. A lot of casuals look for purchasing advice from that crowd.
This isn't my thinking, this is Nintendo's thinking. You absolutely NEED the hardcore/core market but Nintendo's deal is that they think they have the hardcore markey on lock as long as they release the next Mario, Zelda, Smash etc. And they wouldn't entirely be wrong, Nintendo fans are a staunch bunch but eventually it will bite them in the ass. They can't keep taking this demographic for granted.

Edit: And just as I said that it seems like Nintendo backtracked. Bravo.

Bayonetta means nothing.
Bayonetta is a charity case exclusive that was handed to them when people had delusions of Wii numbers in their eyes. Nintendo and Nintendo fans think that it will have a far bigger impact than reality will display.

And I guarantee that Sega and Inaba right now are regretting every moment of the situation they are in with the title.

But the people who are saying just kids and grandmas are being idiots.

Didn't Nintendo bankroll the game? I'm sure PG is happy about it.

I wasn't trying to say it's your thinking. Your post pretty much supports what I was trying to say. Also, VICTORY :)

There aren't after the 100k hardcore market, they are after the 5 million casual market.

The sooner people start to realise this, the easier it is to understand all this.

Well, that doesn't really invalidate the fact that there are not many upsides to this move to begin with. Yeah, they can try to excise the competitive crowd, but one would think that a company would just let the fanbase do its thing if it meant additional sales, an additional source of longevity (where instead of Nintendo being like "people retain on to our games for... reasons!" they would have a pretty firm idea why a sizable core crowd would keep the game relevant for multiple generations), and little possible repercussion from leaving the fanbase to its own desires.

I can understand why they did it, but the shortsightedness of this makes it really apparent that Nintendo is missing something crucial with the online community's treatment of its games (first LP videos, now this).

Edit: Well shit, reversal?

man gamers are starting to get a bit of a record of demanding what they want "or else" and they receiving it

may this set yet more precedents

100k people > 0 people

Math is hard for some people, evidently. Are you still mad about Nintendo stealing people's games?

Good shit on Smash coming back, seems like it was really fast

So are the people who defended this on Miiverse before going to magically change their tune again too because Nintendo did?
