April 21, 2005 - Nintendo has revealed that the Nintendo World store, located in Rockefeller Center in New York City, will open its doors on May 14th. The company will kick off this opening with a huge block party in Rockefeller Plaza.

Nintendo World is a two-story, 10,000 square foot location on the previously existing Pokemon Center location in New York City. Here, consumers will be able to score exclusive merchandise and Nintendo games, as well as sample the best of Nintendo product via interactive kiosks scattered throughout the store. Most importantly, the Nintendo World store will feature an abundance of exclusive Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo GameCube, and Pokemon merchandise that will not be sold anywhere else in the world.

How do retailers see this? Lets say Sony, MS or Nintendo decide to open 600 plus chainstore in malls selling their own product. Is that even legal? Having the best prices, get the stuff sooner then anyone else as advantage, etc.

Sony has stores already. And I can tell you, they do *not* have very good prices or selection. Although they did get certain electronics items in first-- like Minidisc players.

I've never understood why this is.

I go to a manufacturer's site... $100, BONUS FREE SHIPPING!

I go to Amazon.com.. $49.95.

YOU MAKE THE GOD DAMN ITEM, SELL IT FOR CHEAPER YOU FUCKS. I mean really, Amazon.com is apparently making a profit at HALF THE PRICE, taking into account having to buy it from you in the first place, AND shipping costs.

I think it's a good idea (of course as with all things, a lot depends on the execution)

I finally saw an Apple Store this year, and while I was a bit unimpressed after hearing all sorts of hype abou how cool it is, I can see why it's so popular. On the other hand, I think most of the Sony stores I've seen -- while they have cool product and are clearly successful -- don't really capture the imagination. This store will obviously need to sell a "Nintendo experience."
