Nintendo says “a steady supply” of Switch consoles is on its way to retailers

The Wii was fucking stupid here. I only got one because I was in a store on my lunch break and a mate who worked there said some had just arrived. That was months after launch and they were still selling as soon as they hit the shelves.
Wii caught fire as some reason all the non-gamers wanted one too. Maybe they saw it promoted on Oprah, loved all the family room Wii waggling promo videos or whatever the reason, but during that era there were lots of female coworkers of mine who even got one. And they were not the gamer type. And many of them were single at the time, so it's not like they'd get one for family fun. But they got on the Wii train too. While a lot of us guys would talk 360 or PS3 lending games, suddenly you'd overhear the girls talking Wii.

The only time I have ever heard female coworkers (or school friends from back in the day) talking gaming. Not Sony or MS. Not smartphone games or Sims. Just Wii.

Well we also have people claiming rumors here about how many it sold so why not?
I think it's pretty obvious the sales for the Switch 2 are pretty awesome. My issue with those types of comments on any console launch is trying to push a false narrative.

I think I remember seeing the Wii U in store? But not as plentiful, and not as many people buying them. At least that I knew personally. What a weird launch that was. I think I got mine around launch because they were just around. But it just didn't feel the same as the demand for the Switch 2 feels much higher IMO. I've also seen a ton of people I personally know just go get one, a few preordered, but majority didn't.

You can keep that shit.

While this may be the most successful launch ever (will wait to see the official numbers and not a tweet from a rando on the internet), if I am Nintendo, I would still want to see consoles selling for hundreds of dollars above retail.

The fact that scalpers can't sell these devices indicates that supply is out pacing demand and Nintendo will need to appeal to consumers outside of their early adopting rabid fanbase.

This could also be a negative for Nintendo. It will be next to impossible to understand how inflated these sales are with scalper purchases. If they continue to pump S2s out thinking that there is more interest than there is, having an excess number of units on the shelf during the holidays could cancel out the fomo that typically extends new console hype.
yes genius make game sit in cheetos den instead of fan where they sells game annnnd assessory oohohooohoo

I genuinely don't think I can remember a time where almost every single interested peoson could just walk into a retailer in the middle of the day and leave with a new console, lol.
I couldn't I checked today and all stores around me our of stock. Hell best buy doesn't even have it on their website. You walk in the door and there is a big switch 2 out of stock sign. I didn't even make it in the building. So no not everyone got one. I sure as hell didn't.

When I say everyone, I was primarily referring to people I know personally. But from the looks of online there were plenty of people that were able to walk in and grab one across the US. Obviously your milage may vary depending on location, local stores, etc. I think it's fair to think they'll be harder to get on the weekend with people's availability. But the stores in my area showed they were all in stock in store from launch to today. Some still show in stock right now, but of course people are looking to be buying now.

I'm convinced now sony and Microsoft manufacture hype and sellouts
As opposed to Nintendo all gens prior?

ps5 and xbox series both launched at a time when world supply chains were totally broken and fucked up.

PS5 Pro was available day one for everyone who wanted one.
And this.

They've probably been stockpiling for quite a while. They don't get special supply chains and fab ahead of anyone else. They were stockpiling, which works well in a handheld scenario that's not chasing competitive power.

Good to see scalpers being the biggest losers.

I stand corrected on Nintendo(so far). It really seems like they got it under control, as my perception of Ningendo over the years was they were long the masters of artificial scarcity.

It *could* be that the price and lack of titles(outside of MK World) and overall economic conditions hindered sales.

It is readily available in my small town, but as I said before, this isnt an affluent town with a lot of disposable income.

For example, when they opened pre-orders for GameStop for Switch 2(I think it was a Thursday), I went in the local gamestop on Saturday and they still had 4 left for reservations. I almost did one, but I didn't..just not for me yet.

The WiiU was also very nice.
I don't know if that was for the same reasons though. Even Nintendo fans didn't really want the Wii U and a lot of people were confused as to what it even was.

Switch 2 seems to be selling really well AND able to have plenty of stock still. The GameStop I went to is in a city of like 50,000 people and it had easily over 100 people at the midnight launch. The Best Buy that was close had hundreds of people by the looks of it when I drove past.

Awesome!

Everyone in the World should be able to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 :)

Speaking of "the World", I'm notoriously Brazilian and I can say that here in BR stock has been limited. I didn't pre-order it because I thought I could maybe postpone getting it, then I regretted that decision as it got close to launch. So I started checking out major retailers this past week until I found it 3 AM between this thursday and friday. My unit will arrive on wednesday!

That seems to have been a fluke though and I got lucky, shit's back to being sold out everywhere unless you want to risk it at random sites or pay a markup to resellers.

Good, now they can hopefully put more consoles on the Japanese market. It's still a disaster here. Typical move by Nintendo, since they need to sell the console here at a lower price, they first try to satisfy the other markets.

When Wii U came out, I though it'd be a great seller. The systems were still budget priced and in 2012 is when there must had been peak tablet hype with iPads being the rave. I thought gamers would eat it up as the next wave in gameplay. The system also had solid ports of 360/PS3 games too where they were on par with them. But guess not. Gamers didnt care.

I was pretty excited for it before it came out but ended up not getting one until Pikmin 3 came out. The Wii U was technically the first Nintendo home console that I owned and actually played. I never had a N64 or GameCube when they were current and only really played them at a friends house or when I borrowed them (this is how I played OOT/MM/WW) and while I bought a Wii I think I played it for maybe a total of 5 hours and sold it. I had a PS3 and 360 at the time so the ports didn't do much for me.

I've actually owned 4 different Wii U consoles lol. The original I sold in like 2015 or early 2016 I think, but then bought another one when Twilight Princess HD came out as I never played TP. Then got rid of it again after I played TP only to buy another one to later replay WW only to get rid of it again. I then bought my last one like 2 years ago or so and it ended up dying shortly after I got it but luckily I only paid $60.

tl;dr I love the Wii U and spend hundreds of hours playing Splatoon and the Zelda ports.
