The tariff of 46% on Vietnam is surprisingly high. China too at 34%. Caught them out I reckon.
Does Nintendo pay these on rrp (or cost price) when the units enter the US or does the retailer pay?
Yeah. Gotcha. Scalpers are definitely a factor. USA is very price sensitive market compared to EU and AUS. My thought process was based on that. Then. There's also a factor of initial supply and demand.I can only speak for my country the U.S.A we have plenty over here with deep pockets and a massive scalping culture going on with limited edition shoes and everything else.
I was just thinking the same thing.So Switch (1) had a Covid-boom and Switch 2 will have a Tariff-bust..

Tell us how the tarriff policy really is since you are the expert here sitting in your desk doing very important things. This is one of the dumbest things I've read here in recent history.
this shows you have zero understanding of what has been happening to our country for the past 20 yearsLol, the fat orange CUNT strikes again![]()
Nah it will be fine. All companies knows how to negotiate for incentives and tax cuts especially if they build plants in USA. I'm confident everything will be fine especially in gaming industry. Its all about negotiations. Growing pains in a short while, but in the long run it will be beneficial too USA to create jobs especially on states that has a very high unemployment rate, which is one of the top reason for the election result in USA, along with frustration against twisted dei and woke agenda like for example forcing and imposing twisted gender ideology.
And its just being fair since other countries are already charging very big tariffs against USA before Pres Trump presidency. Price will stabilize again once everything becomes fair in tariffs and more factories are build in USA.
For me, just manage your budget properly, take care of you job and work hard.
It doesn't fooking take a genius to to figure this out. It's a tax on import paid by consumers of the country that introduce it.Tell us how the tarriff policy really is since you are the expert here sitting in your desk doing very important things.
México don't apply tariffs to U.S. not the same situation of Vietnam.Canada and Mexico will follow suit soon.
2008 was the result of de-industrialising the west and centering our economies around banking. The tarriffs are intended to reverse that.BTW, You are witnessing history. This is WILD!!!!
If you are a high schooler, this could be moments taught in college business and Econ courses in a few years. Just as they teach about 2008 today. Pay attention!!!
Seems like the guy putting tariffs on penguins should do that.Sucks but Nintendo also has $14 billion in cash on hand, they should swallow the load for 2025 and recalibrate for 2026.
Is anyone really criticizing tariffs on China?this shows you have zero understanding of what has been happening to our country for the past 20 years
i recommend you start a company, spend years doing research and development to bring a product to market and then watch china release cheap knock offs to flood the market within weeks/months. we have been heavily tariffed worldwide for decades and its about time we fight back. try bringing your product to europe or china and see how much that costs you and then think twice about writing immature and corny takes like the one above
the switch 2 may cost us a few bucks more, and if you're an adult that cannot afford 500$ for a console that releases every 8 years then maybe switch hobbies

That is not half. If we look at Nintendo, the topic of the thread, the Americas make up 44.3% (https://wnhub.io/news/finance/item-43404?), but that includes both continents. Estimates put it around 37.5%, so absolutely significant. But even if Nintendo raises the prices due to tariffs I still expect the Switch 2 to do decently well in the USA, but obviously not to the level of the Switch 1.Of consoles, absolutely.
As we know Steam is massive in China. Over 50% of the user have their language set to Chinese.
Seems like the guy putting tariffs on penguins should do that.
its the art of the deal, shock, disrupt and throw a wrench into the system and force countries to re-negotiate their tariffs. keep an eye on the news and watch how countries or companies will fold slowly one by one..Is anyone really criticizing tariffs on China?
Trump just tariffed the entire world, including countries with labor costs on the same level as the US, not only low-wage ones - and including countries that charge ZERO tariffs (such as Singapore)
Politicsyou guys voted for Trump, now reap the results
Only accelerated since then. More and more traditional white-collar roles are being moved out to nations like India now, or else replaced entirely by AI. Followed to its logical end point, you end up with mass unemployment in developed nations, bankrupt governments and eye-watering wealth disparity. We're already well one our way, here in little old Blighty.2008 was the result of de-industrialising the west and centering our economies around banking. The tarriffs are intended to reverse that.
Tech companies may move production to the US, or they might think that all they have to do is just outlast Trump.
Whether it works or not is debateable, but we can't go on forever making nothing and printing money, going further and futher into debt whilst slaves in Asia make all our stuff.
My country (UK) will probably be one of the first to go bankrupt.

Vietnam (where Switch 2 is produced) is folding. They want to make a deal with the US.That is not half. What huge tariffs ?It's all to bring down the huge tariffs that other countries impose on the US / bring future jobs to the US.
we have been bleeding money and jobs as a country for a long time.
But yes in the meantime you will get a lot companies taking advantage of the situation and/or holding off to see if their countries make a deal.
Don't be a selfish dick by only thinking of yourself at the moment and crying about it.
And no one here knows how to stop it. Politicians will just shut the blinds and keep playing musical chairs as taxes go up.Only accelerated since then. More and more traditional white-collar roles are being moved out to nations like India now, or else replaced entirely by AI. Followed to its logical end point, you end up with mass unemployment in developed nations, bankrupt governments and eye-watering wealth disparity. Imagine paying $630 usd for a switch 2 with mobile graphics.... Couldn't be me![]()

. This thing might actually bomb like Wii U due to tarriffs.
It's 40% of the entire market. The world is bigger than the USA.![]()
I agree. I would also add, that it would seem doing things the "Way we have always done them, in terms of food, medicine, cars, and housing" is not working and we need real viable alternatives soon.2008 was the result of de-industrialising the west and centering our economies around banking. The tarriffs are intended to reverse that.

You're correct it's around 40%.

Serious question, but how is that really possible? The tariffs are inherently political.Reminder: Discussion on politics is not allowed here. Please keep posts focused on the tariffs and the impact on gaming and not politics or politicians.

What? What is Singapore meant to do to 'fold', charge negative tariffs? They already charge nothing.
Again this would make some sense if it was aimed at specific countries with certain practices. It's just insanity the way it is.
