Gamestop has ~4400 stores, so we're probably looking at them getting ~60k units in for pre-orders.

Which is reasonable considering the whole US would probably only get 600k-800k units out of a 2 million WW shipment from Nintendo.

What battery life are you supposed to be getting on the new 3DS? Mine can never last more than 3-4 hours with 3D turned off.

Is it greedy to want to 5-6 hours for the Switch? I'm buying it day 1 no matter what but 3-4 hours doesn't cut it for me.

Whatever the battery time will be, the good thing is it supports USB-C, so you can use any kind of battery pack to charge it on the go.

I still don't expect it.

I do expect Bayonetta 3 - because Nintendo obviously seems to value the IP, Yusuke Hashimoto currently isn't directing a known project at Platinum (he last did star fox zero) and Kamiya said he already had plans for bayonetta 3 and "would love to work on it" last year.

If Nintendo plays their cards right (launch games and price), I think this could very well be the first time I get a system at launch. For all you regular day-one'ers, how many games do you guys normally pick up at a system launch anyway?

I've almost always gotten my systems once a lot of games are available for bargain prices and pick up a whole bunch. Deciding what to get at full price and how much of it is foreign territory for me!

I usually get a game or two, but the only things I get at/very very close to launch are Nintendo's systems/handhelds. With the Wii... I think I got Twilight Princess and the latest DBZ game? I forget about Wii U. I know with the 3DS I got Street Fighter and Nintendogs + Cats, and never even played the latter.

This time I'm probably just grabbing Zelda (and maybe Mario? if both are launch I'm prioritizing Zelda) since if Splatoon's a pack-in that's already 2 games, and enough non-Switch games are hitting late March + early April that I'll already have my hands full soon after that.

It's a pre-order period. Nintendo can adjust more stock if pre-orders are good.

They're doing 2 million for Switch largely because of the Wii U's failure and over stocking, thinking it would have been a big success.

Nintendo is making a new 3d mario, but didn't give a name. I love when leaks either go batshit insane or try to be super realistic with no surprises at all, not even a name. Why would they censor the fucking name

Anyone can make up a rumor on reddit and make it sound like it came from a verified source to give it believability. Reddit verified the leaks and rumors on the old NX controller everyone was obsessed about that was completely fake.

10-15 pre-order units.

Come the fuck on, Nintendo, don't pull this bullshit again.

Think about it though.

Nintendo are only doing 2 million units for launch due to being burned with the Wii U and anticipating a slow starter

Let's say 1 million goes to the US.

That has to be split between various retailers and then many thousands of stores.

Isn't this typical for most console launches? Pre-orders are ususally low and the rest is release day buy.

I remember the wii was impossible to Pre-order. And Nintendo planned 1 million in NA for Launch period.

Haha, nothing as in, you never heard from him again because he fell down the yokai hole, or nothing, no use? I make the msitake of buying my kid the watch, the z move bracelet thing for sun and moon...he'll play the games to death, but the accessories just go in a box never to be seen again. So frustrating haha. He has some pride with the medals/pokemon card at least, he files them into a folder etc. Kids are weird ha.

Plus, dunce moment on my part, of course in terms of Japan, I don't know. Did the release of Yokai 1 on mobile have any traction at finding a new/larger audience?
I don't think he uses the watch anymore. My cousin is pretty weird when it comes to games. He likes Youkai but doesn't want the game for his 2DS. He gets frustrated immediately and would rather play some crap on his parents' tablet. They give in pretty much every time be wants a new tablet game since they're free. At least they only let him play games appropriate for his age as far as I can tell. I've told them this is going to become a huge problem if they won't stop this but they don't listen. He shouts, he gets what he wants.

Switch is the silver lining. He adores Splatoon and since he saw Splatoon on Switch he's collecting money for it. His Birthday is in March too so it fits pretty perfectly.

Nintendo wants to play it safe after the Wii U. Just relax.

2 million systems have to be divided out to many retailers and the US isn't getting 2 mil that's worldwide so of course each store won't have 50 Switches ready to go.

We are the hardcore. Why are you so worried? We will get our preorders in once they go up.

Just preordered. Thank god almost nobody gives a fuck about Nintendo in Greece. I'll most likely have mine on launch day.

It just depends on the console. I found this article talking about store allocation for PS4's and Xbox One's

One store manager in California said, "We were only given an allocation of 16 Xbox Ones but we have 60 PlayStation 4s and we're still taking orders." Another in Texas said, "There's no point trying any GameStops. We've stopped that SKU until we get notice."

Any Brits had experience with ShopTo on big console preorders before? Considering putting down a preorder for that just in case I can't get one from Amazon on Friday.

Not a console pre-order, but I've pre-ordered from them several times before. They're fairly reliable, and have a compensation scheme if it arrives late.

Just stick to any purchasing rules you set for yourself in general. I try to only buy a new game when I'm done with the last one I bought and will play it immediately. So I only get one game at launch.

In the past I bought too many games and had a backlog of shit that never got played that I've since abandoned a few times. Launches were sometimes a big culprit there as it's easy to buy too many games, including stuff you wouldn't normally buy at all (much less for full price day one) to have more games for your shiny new toy.

I'd advise against that. Get one or two games day one and go from there after you beat or abandon those. The first party stuff isn't going to get more expensive and some of the third party stuff will probably have price drops/sales by then.

Does anyone know if Amazon will only be using 3rd parties or are they stocking the Switch and selling as direct from Amazon? I'm getting a little worried with these "your retailer might only have 3 units allotted" I know it was specifically GameStop but this is how these things start.

Ughhhh I completely forgot that Amazon does that for Nintendo hardware. I really hope they're good about this; I can probably get an in-store preorder if needed but I'd really rather order online. I guess Best Buy and Gamestop are alternatives for ordering online but I'd like to stick with Amazon if possible.

I hope you're right. I'll be ready right away, but I have no idea how hard it will be to lock one down.

This isn't a thing anymore. Amazon now sells Nintendo hardware directly.

Hmmm wondering if I need to pre-order in the UK

You'll definitely need to pre-order if you want it launch day, but I don't think it'll be as hectic to get that preorder as it will almost certainly be in America. NES Classics were available for preorder for quite a while after their announcement, for example.

Not a console pre-order, but I've pre-ordered from them several times before. They're fairly reliable, and have a compensation scheme if it arrives late.

Alright, I'll put one in just to be safe. Amazon is better for me as I can get it delivered to a local pick up point instead of having to worry about it coming to my Uni accomodation.

Still crossing my fingers for Mario at launch.

The trifecta of Splatoon, Zelda, and Mario at launch would be...*drools*

Also prepping to grab an early preorder Friday morning

If Animal Crossing on Switch is a thing, I have learned my lesson from New Leaf and will definitely go digital for more games if I can. Switching games is definitely a reason for not playing it more often.

Does anyone else anticipate buying more digitally, or does the rumoured internal storage specs concern you, even with SD card storage?

I wonder if they have begun construction in East Hall 8 of Tokyo Big Sight yet. Probably not, but perhaps later today (it's Tuesday in Japan). I doubt we'll get any pictures, though one shouldn't forget when Nintendo of America tweeted NeoGAF that curtain image from the E3 2016 booth.

If we are desperate enough and Nintendo wants to have a laugh at us. they might shows us another curtain.

I would show Reggies Samus Pin

When I went to buy my launch PS3 my store only had 6 of them. Idk why people are freaking out on Nintendo for a new console when others do this too.

The PS3 was unique for a variety of reasons. For starters, the hardware itself was very exotic, so it wasn't a easy for Sony to produce large numbers of units initially. Then you had the price which caused issues. The PS4's production was meant to address that by using parts that are much more common so that they could avoid those issues as much as possible.

With that said, if you make a popular platform then there's always going to be comments about how there weren't enough units. If these reports are true, then they may be more about Nintendo testing the water. Lowballing the initial figure while gradually adding additional units for launch at each store. That way they don't end up with a big overship number. With the GC, they initially shipped around 700k units, and it took them a week to get through 500k of those.
