Nintendo Switch is the last man standing in exclusives

Their business model is that of a toy maker, so yes, selling their own hardware with unique software is the entire reason they exist. They will never willingly port their games to other systems. Maybe if things ever get as bad as in the Wii U era again.

Never owned a cancer system from a cancer company. Greedy, anti-consumer, rehashed IP in different flavors that the fanbase can't stop fapping to because "nostalgia" while simultaneously always asking others to innovate with IP, being abused by predatory tactics to buy the same shit with a higher resolution for $40 every gen and lastly, it takes a certain level of depraved consensus to defend such a horrible company as if they actually care about you over profits.

Now if you excuse me, I have better things to do, like play amazing games.

*goes back to playing Minish Cap on nephew's GBA*

And look at that drop in exclusives vs Nintendo. No wonder switch is doing so well in sales

Exclusives helped, but given how good exclusives still didn't save the WiiU...I think the hybrid form factor Nintendo came up with for the Switch was a bigger reason for its success. Combo-ing their console and handheld divisions into one system just gives them a better release cadence as well.

I'm still not compelled to want to jump into the Switch 2, and they gotta put more effort into Pokemon. One bright spot is we got another 3D Donkey Kong game at least.

Damn, Ps5 and XBS are absolutely abysmal. Even less than WiiU.

Do they make more profit than Sony with that strategy?
I would assume Nintendo makes a ton more profit on their first party games than Sony. Nintendo have way smaller budgets, pretty much every title is sold for full-price for the entire generation, and tend to sell in the tens of millions.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo also churns out more first party titles than Sony in general in a year.

That's obvious, but they don't sell third party games as much as Sony.
Oh, for sure. With "strategy" I just assumed you meant each company's first-party strategy specifically, not in general.

I assume Nintendo makes more profit on their first party titles than Sony does despite Sony's also releasing on PC.

In general Sony makes more from what I've seen, at least in recent years:
Company2023–2024 FY Profits2024–2025 FY Profits
EA$1.2 Billion$1.1 Billion
Nintendo$3.5 Billion$2.2 Billion
PlayStation$1.9 Billion$2.8 Billion

When the industry collapses again and crashes. Nintendo will be the one standing to pick it all back up again. Hopefully their purusit of theme parks and movies doesn't cloud their gaming judgement. When times are tough, Nintendo will find a new paradigm for their own survival and the industry.

It's easy. To develop games like Horizon or The Last of Us you gotta invest money. To develop Pokemon Scarlet you can hire a monkey and feed him 3 bananas a day.
Spend 300M doing mocap animation on a sandwich or adding peach fuzz to a female character: GOOD

Spend 13M rebuilding the entire Pokémon combat system for real-time action and movement: BAD

On the bright side, the age of pixel counters and production value enthusiasts is coming to an end now, as advancing graphics is becoming exponentially more expensive to develop and run.

I don't know, I guess this is their source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_5-only_games

The list is particularly short due to PC ports, yes? I don't know how accurate it is.
Thanks. Even considering PC ports it's way off. Not including PSVR2 where there are obviously many exclusives, ChatGPT found an extra 95 titles, but there must be more:

Nicely done. But the more challenging question is: can you find a single living human being on this planet who cares about even one of these?

I wouldn't have gotten a Genesis without Sonic. Without that it would have been another random vg box that wasn't Nintendo.

"Well that's cool but Sega should have put Sonic on Super Nintendo so more kids could play it"

Yes, why don't we think of the children. Well, having already owned a Genesis for Sonic, I got that version of Aladdin instead of on SNES. And then several other titles. So Sega got more passive software royalties because they made Sonic, and were more concerned with surviving as a business and clawing back against Nintendo than giving their leverage away for nothing.

That's really it. Nothing has changed in 30+ years. Believing Nintendo should go third party today is like believing that Sega would have made just as much on Aladdin royalties if Sonic was on SNES. Or, they know and are advocating for those in a position of strength to tone it down and become equitable with the losers. Maybe, if Nintendo made enough value-eroding mistakes like that, Microsoft could finally buy 'em.

It's the only reason I'll eventually get a Switch². If the new Fire Emblem sticks the landing I'll pick it up for that release. If not I'll probably wait for the next entry to the Xenoblade series. 🔥 If I'm lucky the whole series will have gotten a S² patch by then. 🤞

If they were to publish on PC there's no way I'd get their device.

I don't need Nintendo's love or anything…..just like any compony in the world they are here make to money.

All want is games and as long as Nintendo continues to make the games I love then I'm happy to pay…its that simple.

I demand and they supply….my issue with Sony this gen is Sony stopped supplying what I demand and to me there is nothing worse.

The issue is about the price ($70 + $30 DLC). If it was a $20 game nobody would be complaining.

Guess this depends on whether you count late PC ports. Sure, they mean the game isn't fully exclusive anymore, but there are a lot more games that are on PS5 but no other console.
Taking this logic further, we could argue that Nintendo as a whole has even more exclusives, because a lot of the console exclusives of the past have since been ported to newer systems and PC via collections, remakes and remasters… except for Nintendo exclusives, which are still exclusives to their systems.

- Of course they would complain, let's not pretend they care about the franchise. They would still complain about balconies and other irrelevant stuff;
- Do you think games should be priced per number of pixels or something? There is more to do in Z-A than in a lot of full price games and that's not even taking into account MP.
