Nintendogs Official Hype and Appreciation Thread

I've got a little question since I've just ordered Chiba & Friends (JAP). Are there multiple save slots, and if so, how many? It would be nice if my girlfriend could have her own dog.

Wow, nobody else is doing that except EVERYBODY.

Seriously, wtf. I don't have a problem with it, but why is this anime dog so popular? My friend recently named her corgi after it, my girlfriend has been talking about wanting a corgi and naming it Ein forever, etc.

Yeah, it's trade in 4 games and get Nintendogs without a coupon. With a coupon, it's only 3 games. I'm not sure how to obtain this coupon but I will tell you that I used the deal to get one of every version and it didn't cost me more than 30 total. They will take mostly any GBA game you can throw at them. You only need the cartridge. Some of the games I were I trading were only worth $0.75 trade-in credit. Look at your local Gamestop and EB. They usually have extremely cheap GBA games.

Dunno what you're talking about. Here in Mass, my local EB is 3 games without a coupon.

Are you serious? Wow, then what's the point of having all three versions? I'll definetely pick this up if it's true.

The only reason to have all 3, I guess, is to unlock them faster.

Of course for Nintendo it's $$$. Very smart move guys.

Is that so? At my local EB, the computer wouldn't even recognize the deal unless you had 4 games or a coupon + 3 games. Still, I got all 3 versions of Nintendogs for under $30 total. I just got a whole bunch of less than $5 GBA games from my local Gamestop and even had a discount cards. Cheapass gamers win again.

So thinking about buying this game and a DS next week argh! Is the trade in deal include any games? Or just GBA?

There aren't multiple saves really, but you can have more than one dog. You can have up to 3 dogs at a time :D

I really need to get my own DS soon. When I do, I need to get this game. :lol My boyfriend showed me the demo at Walmart and it was sooo cute~! xD I love animals. I really hope they make a cats version too, that'd be nice. :) I remember I used to go over to a friends house when I was younger to play the cats and dogs game on their computer.

Really stupid question, but I don't know anything about this.

As far the NPD goes, if you get Nintendogs by trading in 3 or 4 (whatever) GBA games, it counts as a normal sale, correct?

I'm guessing yes, just wondering.

I'd imagine. You're not really getting it for free so someone is going to profit one way or another, i guess that counts as a sale. that's just my guesstimate though.

I wish it was as simple as just going out to pick up a copy but alas, I'm forced to import a copy (in fact 2, one for the g/f :D) due to our (Australia's) release being in September.

I had a go of a demo of the game in an EB today though and it was really fun. There were a number of times I just laughed at the sheer enjoyment I was having with the puppies, I'm really looking forward to receiving the game, hopefully by the end of the week.

Ooooooh, what versions did you get?

Chihuahua and Dachsund.

The Chihuahua one is mine, and I think I'm going to adopt a German Shepherd, but I will wait until I play with them before I make my final decision. :)

The g/f is in love with sausage dogs so she will be picking one of those up off the bat.

Can someone explain the "unlocking" of other dogs in each game? Most specifically if you unlock a dog is it unlocked forever? For example if you opened a Pug up while playing with a Chihuahua and decided to start over, would the Pug be available from the start of a new dog? Or would you have to earn it again?

I'm not sure that "starting over" is something that anyone necessarily does. You can stow and get a new dog, and that won't constitute "starting over." You unlock dogs by accumulating ownership points, or you can also get them by meeting a new breed of dog over local wifi. The 19th dog, the Dalmation, is unlocked by finding the fireman hat item.

I just got my copy of the American Dachshund and Friends... There's only one save slot, but you can have up to eight dogs at a time; 3 in your home, and 5 at the "dog hotel." Not sure if that helps answer your question or not.

This is rather addicting! I have taught R.J. (male yellow lab) to sit, shake, and lie down so far.

I haven't even tried out AW: DS yet. :)

Well my copies of the game shipped. Estimated delivery is the 26th which is Friday. I really hope it arrives before the weekend. :D

I could have posted this in any of the Nintendogs threads kicking around, but I chose this one since it's the Nintendogs "appreciation" thread. Check this out...Supposedly it's one of the same deals as GTA: San Andreas, accessible by downloading a mod called "Hot Biscuits", but I have no idea...Sounds like a joke to me.

^^ :lol

I have a question. Has anyone acquired the mario kart item yet? If so, when you race around, does the camera remain stationary or does it go into a kart view on one screen? Do the dogs knock the kart around or just look at it?

You can control left and right with the D-Pad and Accel/Rev with A and B. You can alternate between a behind-the-car view and a stationary cam with L.

My dog seems to be pretty thrilled by it and chases it everywhere. When he attacks it, it goes into mario kart "whirly spin" like they do when they get hit by shells and whatnot. It also plays music when you're controlling it which is kinda neat. :)

Was it this that everyone laughed at during Nintendo's E3 press conference? Miyamoto's dog giving it to Wood's dog.

so can the japanese version of the game communicate with the american ones? Can we trade the breeds that arent in the other version? I'm 99% sure it wouldnt work, but still

Mine is a german shepherd called Sparky bought it today haven't done much he knows how to sit and lie on the floor working on the shake command now. addictive game though between teaching him tricks and doing all the other things time flies by.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this.

Well I'll be damned...

I was playing Nintendogs and had to take a leak, so I handed the DS to my g/f and said to her "hey, why don't you play with my Nintendog while I go to the bathroom?" Up to that point, she'd seen me playing it, but hadn't had any hands on time.

I come back a few minutes later and she's all "that's a gooOOOood puppy" and tossing the tennis ball around with Puggsly the Pug. So I just let her continue, and walk him... hey, less effort for me... walking Nintendogs is a pain.

Long story short, I didn't get my DS back until she went to bed. I have a strong hunch she'll be adopting her own dog tomorrow and I won't be touching the DS except for when she's at work or asleep.

Frankly, I'm flabbergasted... the only game she's ever played and enjoyed was Super Mario Bros. 3. Whatever frequencies this game emits, Nintendo has come up with the ultimate chick magnet.

Though, for my own perspective, I too enjoy the game, although having to walk individual dogs separately is the dumbest design decision. And Archie Hubbs looks like Jean Reno.

Today I got the PAL version of Nintendogs (Labrador & Friends) and it's better than I had thought. Let's hope I'm able to play it on my trip to France / La Rochelle (10 hours car drive).

I think you'll find yourself bored if all you have is Nintendogs for 10 hours.

I'm suprised at teh lack of impressions, though. I did a serach for nintendogs, and nearly all threads are short threads dedicated to an aspec, but with little actual impressions to speak of. Then again, I haven't gone through the Drinky puppy thread, and maybe it's all in there. Or maybe because it's a relative 'non-game'.

I have had my copy for a few days now, and I'm not finding it as engaging as my sister does. Anyway, I tend to shy away from most impression threads of a game (i will take a quick gander) until I have it. Funny thing is, with many must-buys (for me atleast), I don't read reviews until AFTER I purchase a game. I only ever read reviews if it's a maybe buy.

just a few questions that I have if anyone knows the answers (can't find them anywhere):

* Can you get another puppy, and change the trainer's name specifically for that puppy?
*does the game save all the tricks list voice commands for EVERY list, for EACH puppy, including the ones in the hotel? I'm guessing each puppy has it's own voice command list.
'* in bark mode, is the game realtime? in that I mean, do the dogs do the same thing on each Ds' screen? Or does it just download a copy of your dog and it's features, personality etc?
