Silent Hill f: Hands-on preview thread

Is this even a horror game?
Looks like Chinese developed trash.

I'm loving every single thing of it, I hope the PC version is good at release because this is one of the few games I'll byte day 1 or close to it

Looks great, top notch atmosphere and psychological horror which is what these games are about.
I'm waiting to preorder just to be on the safe side until reviews hit but I think this will be great.

Gotta say looks very mid though. When I saw this kitchen footage it reminded me that RE7 kitchen looks 2 generations ahead and that game came out 8 years ago. The assets and textures on objects is same level or worse than the Yakuza games.

I'm just not feeling it. The enemy design doesn't do much for me, and the whole Japanese setting kind of takes me out of the Silent Hill vibe.

Realistically why havent they made it just a new IP? Its like Rockstar that have GTA, Bully and Manhunt...different games but the UI and placement and control scheme are literally the same, just different setting. I dont think anyone would complain that its again a protagonist hitting monsters with pipes and that somehow automatically means on SH can do that. Game looks so different.

Will wait for reviews and sales. comabt doesnt look great and people dying over and over again on bosses, not my type of game. same goes for cronos.

Monster designs are lame across the board.

Creepy female dolls with long black hair look like an overused japanese trope at this point, the giant pink blob with a giant sword looks to have been put in the game by mistake, the completely generic grey creature is completely generic and the woman boss battle is straight out of Dark Souls.

I also like how they all make some corny battle cry before fighting you, that's Silent Hill alright

Not watching previews as I wanna go in as blind as possible, only saw already on twitter people bitching about stamina meter. Jesus, people can never be satisfied. I hope this is same case as people who had no faith in bloober being proven wrong

The way i see it is this is a game like silent hill 4 the room which also changed the vibe and location

Silent hill 4 had it's flaws indeed. Barely a Silent Hill game at all if you ask me, but a damn fine horror game, one of the best of that era I will fight anyone to the death who says otherwise

The floating ghosts, the way the 'safe' room gradually becomes a nightmare in itself was really well done. I replay it once in a while, definitely has a unique vibe. I hope this new game isn't afraid to step away from the beaten path we know because otaku nerds wont like it.

Wrong.

I'm just saying that if you told me this was a chinese reboot of whatever survival horror game i would have believed it.
Ehy immediately chinese? Because game is set in asia?
Why wouldnt konami be able to have a different spin on their franchise with one of best horror mistery writers on market?
Its been long established silent hill setting is not set to one place, but its phenomenon based on mysticsms in various srttings through games. It happening in asia decades ago wouldnt be far fetched.

Because here and there looks generic like those souls games, namely the enemies.
I'm ok with Konami doing this game, i don't even know this will be good or not. I'm just not hyped.

Let me guess. You went online, saw someone outlet call it soulslike and now its go to insult for survival horror game? Cool

Wait until we tell them Resident Evil is another Souls game but you use guns.

Every game Souls game because Soulslike is every genre now.

You're not understanding.

I didn't said the game is soulslike. I said like in most soulslike chinese games that keep coming out, some stuff look a bit generic, namely the monsters.

I've not seen many games that tackle doll like enemies with rigid painful snap to action movements as seen here. If any other games do this feel free to point them out. Although I think it's a bit premature to say the enemies are generic if you only see literally 2 of them with the rest being boss enemies.

The only other current games I can think of are those environmental creepy dolls in Fatal Frame and the Doll enemies in Alisa.

Having lived in Japan as a gaijin for most of my adult life , LMTYS, Japanese women are strange. I married one, lol.

There is an overwhealming obsession to be 'cute' and do stupid fucking poses on all pictures. Even in our wedding photos, her and all of her friends are doing these poses and hand gestures and peace signs and stuff. It's omega cringe.
I know she could resist death threats, she's adorable and strong like Yamato from One Piece.

Look at that pink blob bossfight. The most generic design ever. I honestly feel the game will be crucified and emerge with MC of 70-75 max

Its silent hill game, not some soulslike like some people here have said. Shes no gonna trowing combos and zipping around boss. Its similiar to how other sh games bosses have been where mc is just regular person.

Ex CDPR devs. Keep an eye on it.

Played a demo of it. It felt like something I played in 1999/2000 on my PSOne and in a good way.

Definitely keeping an eye on that one for sure.

They are tapping my inner nostalgia but demo felt polished (lmao) and it was something I definitely enjoyed.

Edit: As of Silent Hill f, I like what I see. Seems like a game I would want to play on a solid controller tbh.

It having some soulslike elements to it isn't surprising in the slightest. As soon as I heard it's being developed by a Chinese studio I immediately thought "so it's gonna be a soulslike". Almost all single player games coming out of China right now are either full on soulslikes or heavily inspired by them.

Combats looks horrible from the gameplay preview, with zero hit reactions at all. But I'm confident is a mix of game journalist unable to play properly and combats "feeling good" more than "looking good", like often happens in japanese games.

Did you mean to quote someone else? I dont expect MC to throw combos or zip around i expect combat with some impact and good boss designs. Look like we are getting neither

Devs saying it will more action-focused than SH2R is worrying imho has Remake was already kind of overstuffed with combat and borderline tiring because of it, even if I liked the experience overall (stellar art and sense of atmosphere).

Not sure whereas souls like mechanics have their place in a serious psychological horror game also, as it might veer the experience towards its mechanical side in detriment to the rest. Still, will probably be a day one for me unless reviews are really bad

The pink blob opens it's body to take a bite out of you which I don't generally see and shows you it isn't just it's sword you have to worry about. In addition it looks to be composed of some mutated Japanese flowers. Not sure which but might be Camellia or the Japanese Peony. Which Camellia based on color could mean noble death ranging from anticipation, strong desire or romance. The Peony would symbolize good fortune and wealth,

So to me I don't think it's entirely generic and probably has a reason for why it looks that way and it just isn't apparent.

And more often then not this will just be a common variety bruiser enemy type you either run from or deal with much more easily when you have better weapons that isn't a lead pipe.

Completely different developers, though. As much as I adore the Bloober SH2 the combat was the weakest link.

I have faith that team Neobards are going to do a far better job in that department.

Even the Room had some links to the Silent Hill universe.

The events occurred in South Ashfield which is located near the town of Silent Hill. Plus, Walter Sullivan is mentioned in Silent Hill 2 as a notorious serial killer who committed suicide in prison.

Silent Hill f seems to be an experiment, possibly very good (?), but arguably less "Silent Hill" in its identity.

We'll see.

Wrong.

Neobards is a Chinese developer.

"NeoBards Entertainment was founded in 2017 by industry pioneers with over 20 years of experience from various Eastern and Western cultural backgrounds. Headquartered in Hong Kong, with development hubs in Taipei and Suzhou, we have worked on numerous high-profile games and our original IPs. Our portfolio includes collaborations with Capcom on Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, Resident Evil Re: Verse, and Resident Evil: Resistance. We also developed Dynasty Warriors M, a mobile game..."

Look at their shit background.

That combat is atrocious. I like the idea of inspecting and having to find what you're looking for with a free cam.

No way I would get around to playing this even as a huge fan of the series.
