A Japanese has written some new info about the game system
http://sinobi.ameblo.jp/day-20050303.html
http://sinobi.ameblo.jp/day-20050305.html

Here are some points I know from what he writes:
1) you still can get all 15 dogs even not communicated with other people
2) you can "buy" the other 10 out of 15 dogs at the pet shop
3) you will get "feeding points"(?) durng the playing
4) nintendogs is not a "simulation game" (?), the dog will not die nor grow up
5) Max 3 dogs in one screen, and there is a Pet Hotel let you to keep 5 more extra dogs (store room?)
6) each puppy has 3 colors skin pattern, divide in male/female

No cross breeding?

Can you play games with the dogs then? Frizbee n' shit like that?

Can I raise an evil one by throwing him at a wall a lot like I do with the Chao creatures in Sonic Adventure? No? Please?

...so is there a point to feeding/trying to raise the dogs, or is this essentially an interactive animal screensaver?

:lol :lol

So the version you buy just gives your different dogs to START with?

I laugh at all the people who were bitching. Especially Ami, who im pretty sure was among them.

Why is it funny? People were mad because they were told they might only get 1/3 of the types of dogs. I won't be buying the game, but I'm happy for all the people who were complaining.

As a side note... I always found it amusing when other companies tried to pull off a Pokemon-esque "two version" game gimmick, like Capcom with their recent Battle Network games.

I agree with your concern. While it's nice you can get all 15 on any of the three packages, I think that the "not a simulation" quote is the worst possible news we could expect to hear about it. It might just be a poor translation, but even if you can't grow/kill/breed the dogs then what's the purpose? Collect more dogs? More points? More toys? If that's the case, then there is a clear (and probably all too early) endgame scenario.

For a game like Puppy Times to be successful, wouldn't it need to be a bit more featureful? I typed "open-ended" originally, but then I realized that the game is already open-ended (since it probably lacks any guided content), it just seems to lack depth. Which has been the complaint of the DS's ability to play interesting software all along.

The depth thing is really bugging me. Remember when Nintendogs was just a demo, and when asked about when the game would see release, somebody at Nintendo said something like, "right now it's just a demo, I don't know how we'd make a whole game out of it."

Worry++;

It's funny because the huge fucking thread doesn't matter now. People got upset over nothing (even though they weren't buying it in the first place).

Actually, the whole rant started with me "bitching" about the three different versions of the game and the concept behind the game. Now the three different versions seem even more pointless if the translation is correct, so that disappoints me in a slightly different way. And since Dogs can't die/grow old, the same complaints remain. I bet Nintendogs will sell a million copies, though.

:lol @ nintendog haters.

:lol @ amirox for hating something that OBVIOUSLY not his thing but.. damn.. bitch bitch

If that kind of realism is the assumed standard it is held to, then why not complain because the player isn't allowed to savagely beat the dogs as well?

My "thing" is good games in any genre. If Nintendogs turn out good, I will be the first in line.

Incidentally, I do realize some limits must be imposed on the content contained herein - especially with the kind of audience Nintendo is appealing to. I don't exactly think "Dog Beating" would be a nice bulletpoint on the back of their gamebox.

You don't have be realistic if you let Dogs die/grow old. There can be plenty of the aspects of the games unrealistic. The standard is just to have something work toward with each gene pool, every dog being different for all eternity. This is why breeding is such a neat idea.

damn I can't beat my dog to death with a frisbee or tennisball. What a disappointment. *roll some eyes*

You're not being serious, right? I don't think anybody was asking for that.

Something has to teach them fear and respect.

Does that mean realistic visible puppy-on-puppy humping?

Personally I think they should introduce true to life things like heartworms as they grow older, rapid button tapping would get them out!

If you're talking about something like wacking the Dog on the head with a newspaper, I wouldn't be opposed to that. That's just discipline, you wouldn't be able to "beat the dog to death." Naturally if you discipline the dog too much it'd stop being responsive and would turn cruel.

Uter said:

No. It means you put a female dog and a male dog together and two days later when you turn on your DS the game gives you the message "Elisha the Pug has given birth to three cute puppies!"

And so close, then with the sarcasm! You cannot be serious. If you want more limitations, be my guest. I prefer less.

I have not seen this little tidbit spoken about

Nintendogs was originally a Gamecube game

discuss!

I really don't think this type of game would work well on a console. I think half the appeal is being able to carry it around in a Tamagotchi-esque fashion.

Thus the reason they moved it to DS but I really would like to see the Fur Shadding on the GC build :)

That's just one more part of the puppy circle of life.

Well.. If I am going to buy a real puppy sim I will be wanting to see the birthing process in action, nothing less than that will do. Who wouldn't get excited when they see the head from the first puppy from the litter crowning?

Hey, maybe you prefer having the option of giving the puppy realistic heartworm pills, I would prefer a little Konami NES Track & Field button tapping action to liven things up.

This is not a sim it's a furry cuteness interactive gallery thingy for chicks

I was going to say something witty about irony but then your tuff avatar scared it right out of me.

You should work a little on your comedic stupidity. It's not quite stupid enough!

aww, I'm sorry I didn't conform to your unspoken dialogue rules in this thread, can I take your little example here and be an ass now too though???

Apparently the point of my comments went over your head. Complaining that an unreleased unfinished game isn't something that it apparently never was supposed to be... If we are discussing a game on that basis, then why can't I offer a few "realistic" gameplay additions as well?

No, I was quite aware of you point you were trying to make. The whole thing about it was that the point was too stupid to take seriously. We're not supposed to criticize a game based on options you feel should have been included? All we are doing is commenting on what is announced about the game. That's actually what this thread is about. So, feel free to join in with some form of non-stupid.

Thanks, Amirox!

fixed. Amirox, you have to learn to take others opinions a bit more casually. You post in every thread and you piss on everyone's parade. It got old a long time ago and now its like funky cheese.

I'll reserve judgement til we get hands on. This ridiculous blowing up of a game no one has played or experienced is ridiculous. I mean for all you know it could be really fun or really bad but we can't gauge til we play/read hands on. This is like reviewing a movie on the advertising blurb/dvd backpage.

This is a forum on the internet. We debate things. And this comment is even more ironic from you, GreenGiant, the man who set records for the amount of times banned! If you don't like what I have to say, use the ignore function. That's about as simple as it gets.

This is the only true thing you have EVER stated in all the time you've been at GAF.
