Nintendo's Localization Record

NINTENDO's Localization Record

This contains release dates for pretty much almost all Nintendo Wii & DS games published by Nintendo around the world. As you can see, there are many games that were unreleased around the world.

Update: Nintendo has recently announced that they are localizing Japan-only DS games for western markets in order to sustain the large install base of the Nintendo DS platform next year. (11/07/2010)

Well, at least Last Window is supposedly coming to Europe so there will be an English version.

No Last Window, Xenoblade, Last Story, Chibi Robo, Reginleiv or Another Code R.

I'm hoping they just really wanted to focus on the 3DS titles as almost everything they showed was brand new. They still have to fill the time between now and the 3DS launch.

But this is NoA we're talking about. With all the great stuff they showed today, they still leave a lot to be desired when it comes to niche games. There's eight or nine months before the 3DS drops, so I guess we'll see. :/

I don't know what team of people translated Trace Memory & Hotel Dusk. But I heard that Trace Memory & Another Code had two different translations, just like Advance Wars DS 2.

I thought maybe Cing made the English versions too, but I'm probably wrong. Because Cing is down the drain right now.

I bought Another Code R here on GAF last year. We need a translation patch ala Fatal Frame 4 (which I also imported).

I hope nothing I want on 3DS gets released in Japan and not in the US, because it's more than likely region restricted. -_-;

Are you crazy? They are gonna release it before Black Friday more than likely. Nintendo seems to love launching their systems in November. I wish it was out now to be honest!

Chibi Robo is a totally dead franchise outside of Japan. They didn't even bother localizing the NPC version of it.

See I don't really know much about last generation. But I think we got most of the games Nintendo published in Japan save for a few. I mean Nintendo is on top and now they don't want to bring over squat.

I still have faith in Xenoblade & Line Attack Heroes as they appeared on the release list back in January. Although it was under the Monado name still.

Makes me wish I knew Japanese, but that takes years and I'm impatient.

Also, why the hell is Poké Park Wii not coming out until Winter? The game came out in Japan back in December of last year, and is heading to Europe & (I assume) Australia next month...wtf?

I forgot they said it was gonna be released this year, did they re-confirm that during the conference?

Chibi Robo..... :(

Yeah Last Window is getting Euro release, so at the very worst it will be an import. But we might as well relax for now though, the Nintendo e3 site is going to getting updates and such all week, who knows XenoBlade might show up there.

No Last Story was surprising, but Im assuming its just not ready or whatever. I mean there hasnt been video at all yet.

I was really hoping Friend Collection would be coming to the US, I was interested in that game. Guess I'll have to import it somewhere down the road along with Capn Rainbow and Disaster

This is crazy but not as crazy as the photodojo localization where they had the NA version of the game done and finished and then didnt release it for like two-three months for some weird reason

Is there a Wii schedule somewhere?

Press site. Nintendo's listed games are below.

METROID™: Other M - Aug. 31
Samurai Warriors™ 3 - Sept. 27
Kirby’s Epic Yarn™ - Fall
Wii Party™ - Fall
Donkey Kong Country™ Returns - Holiday
FlingSmash™ - Holiday
PokéPark™ Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure - Holiday
The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword - 2011
Mario™ Sports Mix - 2011

With Zelda's delay, Fall 2010 is almost as open for third-parties as 2008 was. However unlike 2008, third-parties are actually releasing stuff like Epic Mickey, Goldeneye (new), and NBA Jam. Will be interesting to see how it does. Can't wait for the "YOY decline in December shows Wii on the way out" talk in January. :lol

I could see Zangeki no Reginleiv coming a while after Zelda, since many people will pick up MotionPluses for Zelda and then the install base will be larger.

The problem is this makes sense. Nintendo doesn't often make sense. At least something good out of this E3 is that the Vitality Sensor/Pulse-Ox Monitor seems to have been quietly put on the back-burner. :lol

That would be logical, though I do think Nintendo needs to find a solid name for the game to do well in North America.

I might actually cry if I don't get to play that in English. Seriously. Hotel Dusk is one of the most well-written, truly mature games I've played. Ever.

R.I.P., Cing :( I'm loving Little King's Story so far.

Chibi Robo is a totally dead franchise outside of Japan. They didn't even bother localizing the NPC version of it.

This makes me so fucking sad :(

See I don't really know much about last generation.

In terms of GBA games, there's a BUNCH of stuff that never made it out of Japan.
Most of them were fantastic games, to add insult to injury. :(
Some notable examples being the original Starfy trilogy and the Bit Generations series.

Luckily I bought ALL of them while living in Japan for the past 5 years. :D

Night Trekker, you of all people should have jumped on it right away. *raps knuckles*

Also, Chibi-Robo: Welcome Home is fantastic, as is Ripening Tingle's Balloon Trip Of Love. Yes, I checked the Love-De-Lic companies' weblogs and Twitter feeds to see if they posted. Kenichi Nishi's going to make a 3DS game next (return to real systems!), and that's it.

And, yeah, the Game Boy Advance was great fun, too. The Kururin series is tops.

I know, I know. Had I been aware the same designer behind Chulip created it, I would have grabbed it sooner. It's an amazing game.

I'm gonna have a lot of "hidden gems" to catch up on this generation, as in all generations. It's a good problem to have, I suppose.

Hm, disappointing.

I hope Kohler or someone busts Cammy for this. Xenoblade at least needs to be acknowledged.

I'd like to bust Cammy, if you know what I mean.

Edit- Ha, they both work well.

Well they did add a few more videos. I just find it odd how Xenoblade was revealed at last years E3 (on the press site no less) and it isn't here this time. But then again RPGs take a while to localize. I guess there might be a Fall conference that we can look forward to as well.

There is still plenty of time for them to announce Xenoblade for US.

What im curious about is whether Treehouse themselves will take on the task or give it to someone like 8-4.

Nintendo's been on a roll this generation, but if there is one thing I want to beat their asses for it's their archaic views regarding localization and global markets. Seriously, Nintendo, this small annoyance to pirates is a huge annoyance to legitimate customers who want to buy your products. Cut it out.

The Last Story is 2011 in Japanand shouldn't be included on any list of games that have been given up on.

I also think that people need to chill on Xenoblade. It came out in Japan less than a week ago.

Not Nintendo

I know, but it not being at E3 pretty much nails Tales of Graces in the coffin for now.

Seeing as I haven't seen any Namco threads and only a thread about Nintendo localizations, I figured this would be the most appropriate place, considering it is on the Wii.

Don't mean to derail the thread, just making an observation.

I'm really hoping The Last Story makes it over, It looks really, really good.

I'm extremely thankful that we are getting Sin & Punishment 2! Finally in a couple of weeks!!
That's kinda a surprise coming from nintendo which makes me think of how I don't understand there localization strategy either.

I'll give them through 2011 before I get really mad about Xenoblade. I guess there is a ton of voice acting.

The Last Story got delayed, so it's a 2011 release in Japan.

reginleiv is a simple game to localize i believe

its not that text or story heavy

Not text heavy maybe, but it has a TON of voice acting and story. It would actually be quite the undertaking to localize from what I've seen of it.

S&P on the VC sold extremely well. S&P2 requires very little localization effort. Even with the amount that it costs to print the game and send to retailers, they probably had concluded that they will almost definitely make that up even if it only sells a little.

Xenoblade is a huge game requiring a lot of time and resources. At most, Xenosaga III sold around 150k in America.

There is little barometer to how Xenoblade would do in America. The Tales games have sold well, but is that the same audience? And is it worth it to localize? I'm sure that's what Nintendo is looking at right now. As much as we might hate them for not localizing their products, there's business model is that if it probably won't turn a profit, don't localize it. They're a very conservative company.

Someone tell PressGAF to pester Reggie & Co to release titles like Disaster, Another Code (Wii), etc. etc. as Club Nintendo prizes.

And everyone else request them as prizes with the Club Nintendo surveys.

All I know is that the shit storm of Nintendo deciding to not localize games started in Summer 2008... -_-;

I imported Captain Rainbow, Fatal Frame 4, Disaster, and Another Code R. Don't think I'll import Reginleiv because it seems too complicated to play in Japanese (since I don't know the language after all)

We still have the possible Fall Conference to look forward to for more game announcements though, Regileiv & Xenoblade could appear. Like someone else said, Reginleiv could come out next year after Zelda since it will help move Wii Motion Plus.

With the 3DS coming, many Nintendo DS games will remain Japan only until 10-15 years when someone decides to do a fan translation.

I want Square Enix to bring over their horror series for the DS. Looks awesome. =(

Also, for what it's worth, Pokepark will be releasing in Australia sometime in September.

After playing Disaster & Excitebots, I think Disaster would've done way better in the US...
I kind of get where you're going with this (since one came out everywhere but America and the other came out only in America), but I think Excitebots is a bit of a special case considering it was a NoA initiated game (I'm assuming because Excite Truck probably did well here) that ended up being a massive failure to the point that they had no faith in its ability to perform elsewhere. Same with Captain Rainbow and Soma Bringer, I'd imagine.

Though I'm kind of baffled that they never gave Disaster, Another Code or Tingle even a modicum of a chance in the US. They could've even used the PAL localizations and just removed the extra Us and changed the "res" to "ers." :\

Last Window confirmed in english? Source?
Shiggy?

Also, Xenoblade just launched and we have yet to see a direct feed screen from The Last Story, so... chill man.

We should start bitching about Tales of Graces!

How easy is it to play through Chibi Robo 3 without knowing Japanese? With it not being announced at E3 I think it's pretty much confirmed to be staying in Japan so I might end up importing it.
