Holy crap, I didn't even realize that the New Play Control versions for Metroid and Pikmin did not make it here. That's crazy, what is wrong with NOA??

Metroid Trilogy took care of the former, that latter is a crime against humanity that might be remedied when Pikmin 3 comes out.

NPC Pikmin did come out in the US. NPC Pikmin 2 is only in English in PAL Land.

Only SD card and no homebrewing? How the heck does that work?

I mean I guess I have to homebrew the console to at least run the game (already own it) so it wouldn't be a big deal if it needed homebrewing, just curious on how it works :lol

You don't have to homebrew it. The patch file they give you that you put on the SD card allows you to play the game despite having different regions. I don't know how it works, but it worked for Fatal Frame IV. :)

Considering that Xenoblade, The Last Story, nor Zangeki no REGINLEIV were at E3, I have a feeling they could be later announced at a conference in the fall. (Like the October conference back in 2008)

I see that now. I thought the trilogy just repackaged vanilla MP 1, 2 & 3. You're correct about Pikmin 2. I would probably consider buying it for what would be a third time (have JP & NA).

I think what I'll do is get some menial job at Nintendo and secretly overflow their suggestion box with localization requests. Yes, that will be my plan.... Reggie will be irritated and be forced to... well, probably just throw out the suggestion box.

I don't think it'll work on the newest firmware. How it works is, there is an exploit and instead of running the "installer" to hack your Wii, it just launches a loader that allows you to play the game in any region and patches it.

Hm, disappointing.

I hope Kohler or someone busts Cammy for this. Xenoblade at least needs to be acknowledged.
I thought Nintendo of America has zero input into any of this. It seems like they won't know about any localization until everyone else already knows.

I think it goes both ways. Sometimes NCL will push for a game to come out in the West, like with Rhythm Heaven, and sometimes NoA seem to just pick and choose their own stuff, like with Magical Starsign. Whoever OK'd that and not Soma Bringer needs a good slap. I am shocked that no one ever asks the executives about this in interviews though. I'd love to see the reaction from Reggie or Iwata when someone asks them why they are content to fire a barrage of niche software at the JP market when there are bigger ones out there that see none of it.

Magical Starsign.
The fact that this was released still boggles my mind. Such a terrible game. I think the fact that I was suckered into buying this crap "because it's Nintendo" cuts me deeper than the lack of NPC Pikmin 2, Disaster, etc.

Magical Starsign was an exception RPG for the DS during those early days, even the cutscenes, lol. Not many games have had cutscenes to even extend to both screens.

People really hated Magical Starsign? I had no idea

I thought it was kinda interesting in its own little way. But not epic or anything lol.

One thing I don't understand is why NOA chose to localize Glory of Heracles instead of Soma Bringer... Even if one were to forget about how much better Soma Bringer is (and that it sold better in Japan to boot), you would think that an action action RPG like SB would be more popular in the West...

NCL decides which games can be brought over.
NoA/NoE then chooses from those games which are actually brought over.
That's basically how it works.

Oh okay, that makes a lot more sense to me now. It was just a total mystery to me. Well fuck you then NoA. I had to import Disaster & Another Code R, but luckily I paid no more than $50 for each anyway which is the same price of first party Wii games in the US anyway.

I did however pay alot for Fatal Frame 4, but I got Captain Rainbow for like $33.

I wish Pokémon Black & White were coming out at the same time around the world. But it just doesn't work that way because it's a big media franchise. Anyone else importing it?

This is the first I've heard of Xenoblade. the wikipedia article certainly sounded promising. Hopefully Nintendo gets around to it.

I'd trade ExciteBots for Another Code R.
As for Xenoblade it was semi-confirmed by Cammie herself, and Sakaguchi did the same with The Last Story.

Nintendo & The Pokémon Company will be at Comic Con so maybe they will announce Xenoblade and some of those other games I'm worried about (Last Window, Zangeki no Reginleiv) there?

I don't think that NoA will take a risk with a pretty niche M game as Zangeki

I thought that they really wanted to push Wii Motion Plus. But as of time none of the new games seem to be using it except FlingSmash & Zelda which isn't coming until 2011. Sounds like WMP is another gimmick like the bathroom scale accessory.

Hardly the first time. GBA Wireless Adapter, N64/GC Microphones, DK Bongos, E-Reader, DS Rumble Pak, Wii Speak, etc. Nintendo puts out plenty of hardware that is only used for a handful of games. Their philosophy is basically if they come up with an idea for a game that requires a peripheral, it will get made. Whether any other games use it is a crapshoot. That said I am surpried Zangeki No Reginleiv hasn't been announced, though NoA does still have an aversion to publishing mature content. I don't think todays NoA would publish something like Eternal Darkness.

Cammie did that recently? I don't think so...
The Last Story is probably coming, but as far as a confirmation, we only have Twitter hints...
I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet...

Wow, Face Training is finally getting a western release! (and not just a release of the original game, but a brand new version that is designed as a DSi exclusive! - This also marks Nintendo's first internally developed DSi exclusive retail game!)

Surprised it took so long. Good to see that Last Window is getting a release as well (though it shouldn't really come as a surprise. NOE were the ones who localised Another Code, Another Code R and Hotel Dusk after all)

NoA did those two as well. I just hope the NoE Last Window translation is decent, they can get very literal sometimes and don't have the wit that Treehouse does, the Another Code games could get very dry at times. If a US release comes I'll probably go for that version over an EU one.

I'm not that surprised, wasn't Hotel Dusk midly successful in Europe?

I think it did quite well in both the US and the EU.

Why wouldnt Nintendo bring two giant and probably semi expensive games that they paid for to other regions? Are you guys really worried about that or just when it will come out?

Nintendo's localization has always been a complete mess. Australia definitely have it the worst, but we here in Europe have it pretty bad too. That said though, I think the biggest loss in recent years was actually suffered by the US. Another Code R is absolutely incredible (I personally think it slightly beats out Hotel Dusk), so it's a damn shame that the US didn't get it. I strongly recommend that Americans homebrew their Wii just to play this game.

Disaster is also damn good too.

I can understand that bringing something from Japan take money, but the separation between EU and NA is so lame. I like rthe wii ,b ut I think the way they handle this is very lame like
_ no ExciteBots in europe
_ more generally, zoning of games
_ forced 50Hz in Virtual consoles

nothing of that would cost a thing if we had choices

IIRC I believe that NoA & NoE had their own versions of Trace Memory/Another Code: Two Memories. As in the NA version she is Japanese American, but in the Euro version she is British Japanese. Now for Another Code R I think she is just Japanese American again but I don't remember.

I am happy that someone is finally translating it. Now hopefully NOE localizes it with an awesome script like Hotel Dusk had.

Now Nintendo, where the fuck is Zangeki no Reginleiv? I guess we need to get the person who did the Fatal Frame 4 translation patch (and is currently doing the Tales of Graces translation patch) to translate it. I think that game would be too hard for me to play in Japanese.

I think since Nintendo of Europe released their Quarter 4 list, I believe that NoA will follow suit. Maybe they'll be nice and give us Last Window after all this time?

God damn it's summer time Nintendo, localize some fucking games for a change. Why do they insist on releasing games in the Fall/Winter when most people don't have the time to play the games? Fuckheads...!

Because summer releases have historically (and consistently) not done as well as titles released in the fall and winter (since everyone is on vacation/outside/not playing videogames).

And this seems like an odd complaint to make towards Nintendo who just released Dragon Quest IX and Sin & Punishment.

Yeah, they just put out two games...

*scratches head*

They had S&P2 last month, DQIX this month, and Metroid:OM next month. D:

I got S&P2 at launch, beat it. I don't like RPGs besides Pokémon. They have so much stuff just sitting in Japan that they could've brought over. Reginleiv please...>_>;

Captain Rainbow (Japan Only, Rumored EU Release)
JP: 08/28/2008

Disaster: Day of Crisis (Japan, Europe, Australia Only) (Game is set in the US wtf?)

>( :( i still haven't played those

guess its time to import

Promise of the Captain Rainbow fan translation has brightened my day. Apparently the translation is finished, and it's in the testing stages. Three months, and it's go time!

It's a damn shame Chibi Robo's localization efforts are hit, or miss.. the Gamecube original was a classic..

And of course, Mother 3.. grumble grumble..

I wish Nintendo can bring over some of the first party or second party RPGs over and promote them like they did with Golden Sun. They have a bunch of promising RPGs stuck over there:

Soma Bringer
Mother
Xenoblade
The Last Story

Anyone gonna get Samurai Warriors 3? Odd how Nintendo decides to publish 3rd party games in the US, but won't publish 1st/2nd party games...

Its not odd when you realize that Japan's probably forcing them to publish those games. Iwata seems to be a fan of the "Make this game for Wii and we promise to help with localization" negotiation tactic.

And are you going to continue bumping this thread to keep beating the same dead horse?

If you have a problem with it then don't come to the thread. It's that simple. I don't see how it's beating a dead horse when this seems to be happening all the time.

Nintendo's games sell more than 3rd parties on their own system, why would they bring over a 3rd party game that will more than likely bomb?
