SPOILER RULES:

- ABSOLUTELY NO BOOK SPOILERS. It doesn't matter if they're under spoiler tags, they should not be in this thread. Use the other thread for book-related television discussion. This includes alluding to things, subtle hinting, comparing the books to the show, etc...

- Regular TV thread rules apply:
  • Once something airs in the US on the East Coast, it's fair game. Feel free to discuss anything that has aired without using spoiler tags.
  • Anything that hasn't aired yet should be spoiler tagged including information from HBO previews, loglines, trailers, interviews, and a few other places.
  • Speculation from people that haven't read the books is fine and encouraged.

- For the non-book readers using this thread:
  • If you have any questions about plot points or want clarification on something, feel free to send a PM to any of the helpful volunteers (see below) and ask them.
  • If you're curious about how things unfolded differently the book, please use the other thread.

- For the book readers that want to lurk in this thread:
  • No taunting or teasing:
e.g. "Oh, just wait until you guys see what happens to him next week!!!"
  • No leading questions:
e.g. "What do you think will happen to this character by the end of the season?"
  • No comparing the book to the show:
e.g. "Well, that's different than in the book where they..."
  • Answering questions is fine when the information is readily available from what has aired on the show.
e.g. Q: "Wait, how is Robb related to Ned?" A: "Robb is Ned's son."

The bottom line is that this thread was created for people that haven't read the books to enjoy and discuss the television show. Keep their interests in mind and let them enjoy the show on their own terms without constantly pestering them. In general, there isn't a good reason for book readers to post in this thread. Thanks for your help.
Book readers - please use the other thread. Thanks.

I really like the season finale. I had shivers running down my spine during several of the Dany's moments. To me the almost touching the throne and leaving her baby and husband was her struggling to move on and not get lost in the moment and lose focus why she was there.

Loved the dragons spitting fire, and the white walker was great as well as Arya's arc with the guy changing his face.

Great finale, would not have expected it to be this good after episode 9 being that great already.

I think that's what they were trying to convey. Everyone was bigger than life and they were going to be in for the fight of their lives. Based on Dany & the dragons abilities, they weren't much of a match and their power was phony to boot. To me, it mirrors the battle from last week which made it appear the odds were insurmountable... if not for a little thing like a boatload of wildfire igniting.

As an aside, it kills me that Tyrion got NO credit for that. Tywin is not that bright if he doesn't take advantage of his son's gifts.
Right, power resides where people believe it resides. The warlock had power because people believed it, as did the richest man and the Thirteen.

Sansa smiling like that afterwards was so cute and funny.

(legal in sweden)

im joking ofc :p

No shit, she's cute. Either way it was very cool to see her make a sigh of relief like that, she was like haha dumb bitch see how you deal with this prick.

Then Littlefinger comes outta nowhere like the sneaky rat that he is, and offers her.. I dunno what lol.

The entire thing felt like a waist of time. Even more painful is the fact that each season is only about 10 hours long. It started with her losing her dragons and ended with her gaining a good amount of wealth and her dragons back. SERIOUSLY? Could not have done it in a faster or at least more interesting way?? The entire Qarth place seemed like a huge let down and a waist of this shows very limited time.

A little book talk:

I was talking to my cousin who read the books and said her chapters just fucking dragged on. So they stayed true to that!

Sansa is pretty much all alone now. The Hound left, you figure Shae will no longer be with her so she really has nobody that she can count on in Kings Landing.

I'm a snow man but someone else is saying ashes. Give me proof. It's not in the books.

Snow. Tell your friend to go back and rewatch; it doesn't look remotely like ashes.

S1 Dragon ending > S2 Zombie ending.
Anyone else agree?

Both work. The dragon(s) birth was a great visual capper for season 1 and what we eventually got in season 2. We had the White Walkers in the very first episode and since then they've being kept in the shadows. Last nights moment was earned with the full reveal of the leader of the WW on his un-dead horse with the rest of dead following behind. Both finales introduce elements to the story that don't appear to have immediate and direct impact on the A-plotline of the Starks vs. Lannisters. Khaleesi and her crew are still far away. These White Walkers are moving somewhere, but I think their first stop will be confronting Jon and the Wildlings.

Both endings are visually impressive. Which is better may just come down to preference. The realization of dragons (s) vs. an undead army.

So, somebody else pointed out--if Jaqhen Hghar can change his appearance... could he also have been Syrio Forel?

Since they're from the same place why didn't any of us pickup on the accent?

Snow, but I'd guess the roof had being torched by Khaleesi's dragons her dreamscape.

Why weren't the White Walkers... walking...?

Ahem, sorry. :p

Really awesome episode and GOD DAMN I want to see the fight against that undead army in the first episode of season 3.

Well guess it's time to bow out of the thread until next season. People just don't bother reading the rules. It's been a fun ride guys.

Eh there's honestly nothing worth being spoiled over or worrying about in that tag. I read it and I havent read the book.

YET

Sansa is pretty much all alone now. The Hound left, you figure Shae will no longer be with her so she really has nobody that she can count on in Kings Landing.

Who said the Hound left for sure? And why wont Shae be with her?? She also has Littlefingers it seems. Also it is pretty safe to say she has always felt alone in Kings Landing.

Some rare book stuff posts aside, I think everyone did a good job enforcing the rules this time around. :)
I was never spoilered so far and by only reading this (and parts of the first season's) thread I got to experience(which includes speculating&discussing) this show as if the books really don't exist - which makes watching the show much more enjoyable, imo.

On further reflection I guess I was most surprised at the lack of character deaths this season. I was almost embracing the inevitability that someone I loved would get killed like Jorah, Sansa, Bronn, Brienne, or even a major character like Tyrion or something.

I felt like from last season and through the fans of the books that major characters died left and right each book but other then renly - who I saw as a minor character - there really wasn't any major deaths.

No major ones, but there was a parade of minor characters dying. Halfhand, Yoren, Onion Knight, Maester Luwin, Ser Awkwardly-Beheaded, and of course Renly. (also every single person, it seemed like, in the entire city of Qarth)

Anyway, I'm sure as hell not going to complain. Except for the Joff. I'd love to see him bite it.

Edit:
Oh yeah, the one thing I really would've loved to see in the finale, besides Tywin acknowledging Tyrion, is Tywin figuring out about Arya. I really hope they meet up again some time in the future.

ok im not reading anything yet, but i started watching late today and got 20mins in but then E3 started so i left it there, then i had to go out to eat, so will prob watch in an hour or so after the ubi conference finishes.

feels good knowing i have 40 mins of season 2 left, i might watch a few minutes each day to spread it out, the year long wait will prob feel like several years

It's also the speculation that kinda ruins it for me. Anyone who watched Breaking Bad and followed the thread might know what I mean.

You're worried about the speculation? Even if the rules were followed 100% here and there was literally no chance for getting spoiled, isn't speculation a part of every single show/tv/book/story discussion ever?

"Oh man, _____ and ____ happened, I wonder what happens to _____ next."

Avoiding speculation wholly means never participating (or reading) any discussion on anything story based ever.

Confusing as hell...

- Why didn't sansa leave with the hound?
- I thought that king dude was captured but now hes back with fire god lady?
- WTF happened at the castle? Everyone was suddenly dead...
- Why was tyrion not the hero? He was suddenly lying there on a bed in some crappy house, made me think I missed an episode. His dad would've probably seen him and the men will know he was the brains behind the victory?
- Also if that old man (who's beard got cut of by tyrion) hates him so much, why not just turn him in?
- Will we ever see khaleesi naked again? :(

- She probably felt safer in King's Landing than traveling all the way back North with the Hound. The road isn't exactly safe, and she doesn't trust the Hound.
- He was taken by his own men, not captured.
- We don't know. Season 3...
- I would assume Cersei made sure Tywin took all the credit instead of Tyrion. Since he wasn't conscious he was unable to play the game.
- Turn him in to whom?
- :(

Joff is still king and he would have had Tyrion killed in battle by that guard, but since that failed, the next best thing is to cut him from power. He can't have him killed outright because he's still family.

It seemed like they all thought Tyrion was dead. So it's better to keep him hidden.

I don't get why people thought stannis was captured...

He's up on the wall fighting, and as his army retreats and Tywin's appears below him, he gets grabbed by a couple dudes also on the wall. I wouldn't have known he'd escaped if not for people here pointing out that it was his own guys grabbing him.

Surely Davos isn't dead. There may be no disambiguiation (sp) about it IMO; just like they did with Luwin this episode. He got stabbed; viewer not sure if he died; series made sure to bring the point across when he asked for the knife.

That's what I thought, but with him not appearing this episode, I kinda gave up hope. It'd feel a little cheap if he just appeared again in S3.

I'd be irritated if Davos isn't dead. His ship vaporized right after he was blown off it.

I do wonder how they'd be able to bring him back seeing a whole episode went past the battle at Blackwater and to bring the focus back to the debris on the battlefield + Davos would seem very farfetched. :( I really liked Davos, his story can't be over yet, just as Stannis's isn't over either!

Glad i'm not the only one confused at what happened to Winterfell, felt like they cut out a piece of story and forgot to explain it.
Ending was freaking amazing. Season 3 is going to be a hard long wait.

Regarding why Sansa didn't leave with the Hound, since it's being brought up a lot...

A lot of people are forgetting that at the time, Stannis appeared to have a decisive victory at hand. And King's Landing would've been much safer for her if Stannis had taken over and Joffrey's head on a pike. Obviously she made the wrong bet and in hindsight she should've gone with the Hound, but you can't fault her for deciding to stay in the safety of King's Landing than traveling on the road with a killer with a half-burnt face. This is a girl who's only 14 or so and was already almost raped by commoners. It's a long trip to get back to Winterfell.

Same reason people don't seem to get what happened at Winterfell... Things need to be explicitly stated apparently. :p

I mean, when has someone ever been captured like that? I thought it was pretty obvious he just didn't want to retreat. I honestly don't know why they would burn winter fell of they were going to surrender, only if they escaped through the tunnels and figured they would do it as a fuck you to rob.

Not really the same situation. As I mentioned a few posts back, things don't add up as far as why Winterfell was burned. If Theon's men heard Robb's offer of amnesty, why would they have bothered burning the place, especially since they were so nonchalant about leaving. If they didn't get word of Robb's offer, then why weren't they told about it?

Because he was taken against his will while screaming to his army down below and not at the people taking him away.

It immediately looked like his own guys pulling him out of the fight to me. It was obvious the guys holding him were being way too nice to be the enemy.

I'm guessing that the Iron Island crew took advantage of Robb's offer of amnesty by killing everyone they could find, torching the hold, and then handing over Theon. I'm guessing some of the troops that were sieging escorted the crew back to the coast, and some searched Winterfell for survivors. Any survivors they found they took to keep safe along with Theon and headed for Robb. Only after all of this did the kids come out of hiding.

That's my take anyway.

I don't think they would get amnesty after that. Northmen people aren't that forgiving. We saw what those 3 Stark men did to the whores.
