No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

nobody said it does. and if you want multiplayer or a story...its simply not the right game for you. no patch will fix that.

Never mentioned anything about multiplayer or story. The more or less acknowledged tedious repetitive loop where things you did in your 1st hour aren't really any different from your 20th hour, that doesn't seem to be solved. At least, not from what I can see. But due to it being a huge patch, people are now graciously giving them a second patch, which is completely fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if this all ends in the exact same way. I guess it may possibly look like concern trolling or some shit, but damn it, if I can't say it now, when can I say it?

As for you and others saying it's not supposed to, that there's more to come, I'm aware of that. Just hope it'll be something that'll actually remedy what I consider to be a fundamental issue with the game. (An actual ending would also be nice too) Don't need the whole "perhaps it not for me" shtick, I'm aware that people may be just fine with what they have currently. I'm just pointing out my (continued) concerns. I'll just leave it there, since last thing I want to do is get wrapped in one of these threads.

Free updates are good.

Seems the want to go the service model with this game. Keep adding stuff to fuel sales,

Ill bite on a sale if the game is good at some point.

Those additions look good. Still burnt out on the game though to jump back in.
The video said at the end that there's more updates to come so I'll wait and see what else they add.

This game should have been a flagship game for some sort of early access deal with Sony, and sold for an early access price. The game I got felt like an alpha of a $60 game, like minecraft when it was silly cheap. I figured it'd be something more than that, but it didn't hold my attention for long and I couldn't even fuck around with a friend under any circumstances.

The ability to do SOMETHING meaningful outside the treadmill is a real good foundation. I'll pick it up for $20 or less on PS4 when I can actually run into someone and there's a bit more that I would personally like

I really enjoyed parts of NMS but my main complaint was that the 'game' part felt half assed. It was too basic for those looking a survival/RPG-ish experience, and amounted to tedious busy work for those who weren't. I thought they needed to go one way or the other but it looks like they did both.

Creative Mode actually sounds closer to the [mostly] directionless space exploration game No Man's Sky was being billed as originally, until "But what do you do?" became a thing.

You can't just play your dev card when it is convenient to the point your making. Also neither your dev or consumer side makes your attitude any less off putting. You do not need to attack peoples reading ability to stand by something you believe in.
When you pull a single quote and attack it out of context - what did you expect would happen? That I would praise you for trying to spin one sentence from the whole? No, I'm going to think you don't understand what you've read or are purposefully trolling. I gave you the benefit of the doubt on not being a troll.

And what convenience? I'm a developer and a consumer and speak as both. What is convenient for me to bring up either advocating as a developer for the consumer or speaking as a consumer being tossed PR bullshit that never came to fruition? Again, fairly certain you are cherry picking.

Now I'm leaning towards you being a troll instead of being unable to understand context.

Bad argument. A lot of critics such as myself aren't asking for multiplayer OR a story. We just want something to actually DO (Some kind of goal that is satisfying) in the game because the planets themselves are the same 5 templates displayed again and again with different terrain, making exploration boring.

You just stated that multiplayer was one of the two core problems in the game.

And yes, a lot of critics complain about no multiplayer. Have you forgotten how much use this gif received since day 1 of release?

Totally want to look into the base building to see how it's done. If it's Fallout style "go crazy with what you build" I might have to buy it, I love that type of thing.

I lose faith in humanity everytime this argument comes up.. Extremely rare... When he said extremely rare.. I never ever took that to mean i can play with my friends. But just for shits and giggles wtf would you be doing with your friends? Not shit cause there wasnt anything to do but look at them.. Just seems dumb as shit to want to go around the galaxy together not doing jack shit that helps your enjoyment of the game?

This confirms how poorly thought was the original game. They are only starting *now* to differentiate planets so there's actually something to explore in the first place:

- Introduced visual differentiation of red, green and blue star systems
- Introduced new mineable terrain resources found only in red, green and blue star systems
- Reduced average building frequency
- Introduced planets with elevated building density
- Introduced planets with no buildings or sentient life
- Increased the proportion of lush and tropical planets
- Decreased the proportion of lifeless planets

It's a very tiny step in the right direction. But it doesn't even remotely excuses how poorly designed was their concept.

Every planet was exactly the same, only its look was different. And they thought this was a good idea.

HG said you could grief other players. I'm going to reach really short here and say alongside that you would have some basic forms of trading since the game revolves around collecting things to spend things to get things and playing your time as a "trader". You know, the "no brainer" of what HG both said and insinuated. There's dots to connect in the interviews but those dots aren't present in the actual game.

So, how does the game feel after this patch in terms of depth? I've only played the launch version briefly and got disappointed by how copy paste everything felt like. I don't really like planets that have little bit of everything sprinkled all over. It makes them feel kinda fake. I don't mind so much just playing for the exploration factor but when the element of surprise dies in the first couple of hours, I don't see much of a reason to explore any further.

You can craft communications stations which are essentially dark souls messages you can leave behind. Nice to see some sort of multiplayer feature.

That doesn't even sound like that would be fun.. Grief? I'm glad that wasn't in the game.. Trading? Zzzzz. So basically people are mad about a vaguely talked about multiplayer that had absolutely nothing to add to the base game and just maaaaybe if I'm lucky we could have traded some of the wealth of items that could be found on any planet.

I'm disappointed in no mans sky, but not because of multiplayer.

This is hardly the freeform building game that Minecraft is, lol, they're not comparable at all.

Regardless, the game's initial promise from the trailers is that No Man's Sky does have a purpose. The center of the galaxy is what everyone was supposed to strive for, trying their best to get there while fighting or helping enemy factions and such.

After the game released and all of that turned out to be a sham, the diehard fans such as yourself change topic and argue "Well, this isn't supposed to be that type of game, it's for exploration!!!" -> Conveniently missing the fact that the exploration in NMS is objectively terrible.

And now apparently after this update the game is going to be a base building game of Minecraft caliber. lul

I will say that sometime in the future I'm still willing to give this game another chance, though. Maybe next august we'll get the $60 it promised it was going to be.

You typed a wall of text to refute something only in your mind.

Get help.

I'm happy for HG. This is the way you start to gain -again- a fanbase, by substancial actions not words. I will give it a nice try.

Hmmm, so I guess this means the picture of weeds outside their building that was posted a while ago doesn't mean they closed shop and ran away with everyone's money?

CTD when trying to load Normal save.

Wasn't that taken on a weekend? Yeah, FUCK THOSE GUYS FOR NOT WORKING 24/7!

Well i know i wouldnt have been able to put that together after solid months of unbelievable hatefest. Would have retired toa tropical island if i didnt blow my brains out.

Updates look impressive honestly. And the 'live now' is really the only way for them to operate going forward. Dont promise dates or details or anything. Just launch the update and the details.

I've played this game for well over 100 hours, collected everything there is to collect, travelled through 4 galaxies to get to my fifth ... but Survival Mode ... HELLLPPPPP!

Much, much better in every way.

The only multiplayer this game should have had was a "wingman mode" where you start together and explore together. Not some nebulous deathmatch style where you would never run into anyone else even if it was implemented. They just need some sort of co-op mode.

Of course I said the same thing about Skyrim. At least let another player take on the roll of your follower with that follower's skill set.

Shame there's no trophies, the road to the platinum was much more satisfying than the journey to the centre of the universe, still fantastic work regardless.

Dammit... Platinum was too fucking easy, was hoping for "warframe-like update trophies" that game gets trophies with every free update... Was hoping NMS added new ones for new modes.

Wait, they decreased the proportion of lifeless planets? There weren't any lifeless ones to begin with! Unless plant life doesn't count as life.

Is it too hard to want to find just a rock, without those stupid clamshell rocks or without plants? Let me mine carbon out of some rocks or something if you're worried about me being an idiot and stranding myself.

This update actually looks pretty great. I liked what I played of No Man's Sky, it was just too shallow to really invest too many hours in. If they continue to add content like this I could see this game eventually being fantastic.

Just a shame that they ruined so much good will with the launch.

I found a planet ( or a moon ) with no animals and 2 plants ( that were more like stalactites or something ) ... I guess that was considred as lifeless

It's great that the dev team has finally apologized for lying to people about the contents of the game.

Anyone know how to get this working on PC?

Can't load my old save, can't start a new Survival, can't start a new Creative.

All CTD. Sometimes it's only nearby zipping stars then CTD, sometimes only galaxy center, one point I got the title card, but all just result in CTD. Seems it can't load everything or something.

Actually looks pretty good. Just a shame that the game didn't launch like this.

Still might be too little too late for a lot of people, though.

Thats more than I expected. Not sure it'll turn round my opinion on the game but it's good that they're doing it for the people that have stuck with it. Don't think this'll be the update that makes me reinstall but if they keep this up I'll be back at some point.

Just died in a random space pirate fight... Have they tweaked up the difficulty setting even on normal?

I haven't downloaded this yet. But what exactly is playable right now of all these improvements, and what is a "foundation" for future things to come?

Is it worth turning the game back on to test anything?
