Exactly the same here. They're pearls so I'd think they're supposed to be underwater but I just don't seem to be able to find them.
There needs to be proper diving equipment with upgradeable propulsion because swimming isn't fun and I always avoid it.
Does this update do anything that allows interaction between other people?
So can I buy this now or should I hold out for large-scale space combat?
Is it always possible to survival in survival mode, or do unfavorable starting conditions potentially make it impossible?
Yeah it was suggested before if you get a bad planet then you should delete the save and start again and I'm starting to agree with that. It's going to be tedious until and if they tweak how initial planets are generated. The state of the planet is likely very important. It just sucks you can't go back to the menu. You have to quit the game in order to get to the mode selection screen. Unless I've missed something on the PC version.
I found if you die especially more than once you might find yourself in an impossible situation as you lose what you gathered but it remembers what you gathered so the ones you mined are gone. So you could find yourself stuck in a situation with no reachable resources before your life support runs out (especially as plutonium isn't so common and you need that to recharge the life support). I had to restart several times before I could even reach my ship. And now that I took off (and realized my launcher only has enough space to hold one launch's worth of plutonium) I am refusing to land until I see a good trading post or at least good plutonium resources around.
I like survival but I admit it's a little too tough for my tastes. It definitely makes fallout 4's survival look easy (at least I can regather what I lost if I die).
Survival I think is a bit to brutal. Took me a few tries to get to the ship. Either the amount of resources need to be increased in this mode a little or they need to shorten the distance between the initial spawn point and the ship. There is way to much luck in additional to trial and error at play here. Having you need the launch thrusters to be full every single time when you lift off in your ship is completely unacceptable as well. Since they need a specific resources that in itself is very rare now no way should you need to have the thrusters full every single damn time. The ship is the only method of exploring in a reasonable way since hour haz suit and life drain so quickly. Like said either resources need to be increased more or better yet the thrusters need to accept other resources as well. There is plenty of iron around and nothing is really using it outside of some crafting.
Normal is about the same as I remember it. The milestone screen is still annoying and frustrating as ever. This needs to be addressed. Give people an option to that turn that off. That almost got me killed a few times. The star map though is still a piece of shit.

There is no way to scan a planet for plutonium before landing on it right? Also I assume you can't fly low enough to see it without mods?
I think the tweak I'd put in is make plutonium not so hard to find (and don't make the ship launcher need so much of it to launch).
Although, a planet I passed (but didn't stay much on due to extremely bitchy Sentinels) had big lumps of a red material (think the huge Heridium or Gold "columns" but red). Here it is on video. I was curious to see if it was Plutonium in a new form other than crystal but didn't stick around. More likely than not though.
doesn't every planet have Pu and Tha9?
If it was big bricks of red metal it was probably IridiumSmiteOfHand said:I had a bunch of those on my hell planet. I ran to each one in hopes it was a giant Plutonium spire. Might not be the same here, who knows, but was definitely not plutonium.
This planet was several jumps in, to be clear, not a starting planet/star system. I feel like I was getting a pretty good grip on survival and landed on the planet surface despite not having plutonium to take off and not being able to find a landing pad because gathering 200 isn't too bad and I'd get most of the way there just exploring.
I didn't think the game would throw a planet with NO natural plutonium at me. Woke me up, for sure. Now I am scared what might be out there the deeper I get. Can't take anything for granted.
I agree survival is a little too brutal but it is definitely more what I was expecting out of the game before it came out (The game ended up being too easy, I was expecting it to have a survival feel which it only had some at the beginning).
Wow, I didn't think they'd make a planet with no Plutonium at all considering how essential it is.
You went spelunking?
I explored every exposed cave system I found. Not a damn thing. Loads of Thamium 9, at least. I could run for days.
When I get grenades I might go back as they might be in hidden tunnels. It is the only sense I can make of it.
My survival planet isn't too bad, the only real hazard is the fact it's 80 degrees during the day, so I can only explore freely at night. It had all the resources I need, although the trek to the heridium took four in game days as I had to shelter in a drop pod half way between the deposit and my ship both ways, and in a cave near the heridium after mining it. But I haven't died yet and I've fixed my ship now. Really the only thing that was a bit annoying was having to spend a lot of time sheltering. The ground is very rugged though, I like the fact you really have to watch your step as falling can really hurt you - you need to play a lot of attention to the environment. Mountains and ravines are genuine obstacles to be conquered.
I don't want to leave the atmosphere yet because I've heard that pirates are a real problem. I'm probably going to try and explore this place and look for blueprints. Heat shielding would be amazing to have, lol, but I really want to upgrade my ship to stave off attacks.
So far I think I'm fine with the plutonium scarcity and the amount required to launch, it changes the gameplay so you really have to think about the moves you make. If there's one thing that I'm really hoping for it's land vehicles. With it being harder to launch having the increased mobility - that doesn't drain your life support - would be fantastic.
Yeah, for me, I think it's either not plentiful enough for how much you need it. And that planet seemed a little more generous on the amount of it it had than the previous ones. I'd really like to be able to focus on actually doing something more than managing to survive the environment and get my ship going. But it seems that my whole time is just searching for plutonium to stock up on (I haven't even fixed my visor yet. Carbon is too valuable for recharging the laser and my life protection).
So serene.here is my humble homestead... trying to take pics periodically so I can see the progress
If it was big bricks of red metal it was probably Iridium
took me a while to realize that Nickel comes in arches now
I an many others played well beyond 2 hours and still enjoy it.
Spend ca. an hour setting up shop on a stormy lush planet. Ocean view included and riiiiight next to a worm whole.
Figured instead of searching for that perfect planet I can already do all those little fetch quests to get the blueprints. Especially the ones now needed to mine some of the resources.
The extra storage options are appreciated as well.
Won't go to deep/decorative until I find really the perfect base spot. Mostly need iron so next time I can build the base super fast.

I'm sure there's degree of luck when it comes to your starting planet. At least I could get around at night. The first thing you should do is fix your scanner, though. It's the difference between life and death IMO. Some of the plutonium crystals are really tiny.
Can you use carbon for life support? I was only using thamium.
They made the transition into space too immediate. As soon as you fly upwards you're already passed the clouds. Look back down and you're in the atmosphere in what looks like it should of took you much longer. Takes me out of the game every time. It was never perfect, but before this update it was more gradual.
Entering the atmosphere from space looks the same as before the update and is not as quick as leaving.
They really need to get these things right. I wonder if it has to do with performance why they keep on changing it.
I wish they would add some value to your ship when you exchange it. I guess it wouldn't make since unless you could own more than one ship, but as of now it feels like you just throw away your old ship upon trading it.
Plutonium doesn't seem to be in caves now. I don't have much to go on, but on my survival planet it seemed to be more prevalent on top of mountains. Also there's usually a little near any buildings. Not to mention you can get it in the little red crates that are lying about - if you can find any drops or structures. Can you find a habitable base? If you can then you can teleport.
Oh damn, that's a real shame. I loved flying through the atmosphere slowly - my favorite part of the game.
Oh also, yes my base is designed with Trading in mind. Since I have a dock on my base, trading ships will land on them. So have fun![]()
I don't think trading ships will land on your platform, but I could be mistaken. I think it's just for your personal use.

No they land on your dock. I get them all the time on my base. Great for selling goods at a higher price.

My mistake! I just assumed it was a private pad.
Are all planets changed? Or are planets we've already been to locked to the old ways? I've been wondering how they might try to both improve things without breaking what's already there.

You can still do that when landing on planets. It's leaving them that's too artificial now.
I'm assuming you can't grow plutonium since it's a mineral in your base, only plants?
It would be so nice to not have to go on impromptu adventures every time you want to leave.
