No Man's Sky "Path Finder" Content Update announced

I can't confirm this but I could swear if you land at an outpost that has a landing pad your liftoff is free. Maybe it was a bug.
Landing pads and those poles in the ground where you can summon your ship have always meant free liftoff.

Pretty sure it's cheaper to craft a bypass chip at those poles than to waste 25% fuel.

Forgive me if i'm late to the party as i haven't played since it came out but I swear you could recharge life support with carbon but it doesn't seem like you can anymore? also didn't going into buildings recharge it also or am I remembering wrong?

It's only going out in the *experimental* patch on PC though. No idea when we're going to see it on PS4 as an official update.

If memory serves, in the past official updates for PS4 and PC usually dropped a week or two after experimental releases.

Wow, this is great. I was going to tweet at them about remote play controls, but this is a WAY better solution. Just sent off my request, thanks!

My request was for a shoulder button toggle, to just switch L! & L2, R1 & R2 via switch in the options. When you remote play, the accessibility options no longer work, so the OS level remapping stops working. On the Vita, L2 & R2 and the upper left & right corners of the touch screen. This makes several things trickier than normal. The L3 and R3 are fantastic, they work great on the touch screen. As would L1 and R1. Hence the need for a switch!

My pet controller annoyance is with the flight controls. There are two separate acceleration buttons (thrusters and boost), which makes space combat way more cumbersome than it needs to be. What I've suggested to them is putting both on a shoulder button, so that 90% is thruster, but the last 10% as you press down would engage boost mode. They'll probably never do it though.

Yup, landing pads don't expend liftoff fuel, and neither do those beacons near NPC buildings. So if you have no plutonium, sometimes it's easier just to use a hacking card to call your ship to a pad/beacon.

I noticed you could play the game on the PC with the different colour filters on. Is it the same on the PS4? I can't get to mine at the moment.

edit: Yes you can.

No, that's true. But you have to find them first. I was ok when it was just the ship, but was looking forward to the exovehicles freeing me up a bit but with the Plutonium requirements it means they don't help, and now I have even less Plutonium than before.

But also you do reach a point in Survival where it's no longer survival, but just changing things up twice as much. It's not really hard any more.

It doesn't automatically show you you've discovered a new creature any more. You have to go to the menu to find out. I hope they change that back.

I take back what I said about Survival, it's kinda fun roaming around plutonium hunting in the buggy.

What I don't like is the fact that the buggy doesn't have its own shield. Just got one-shotted by a damn crab and respawned without my buggy in the middle of nowhere on pretty hostile planet.

Gonna be a long trek back now.

Edit: ok, so the buggy stayed where it was before and just needed repairing. I can live with that.

Wow this game... this fucking game. Between not having enough space, every planet being a shit hole, pirates constantly attacking, falling through the goddamn floor, and progress being so slow... It's just... Fucking hell.

Oh and not only did I lose my ship stuff from dying but both my warp reactors are critically damaged. Great. Just great. I feel like I'm going to lose my sanity playing this.

You have to power the ground vehicles with plutonium too? Damn, that's rough. Started with a fresh Survival save so I'm still quite a long way away from that. Hopefully by the time I get there you can deploy vehicles on any planet.

Yeah, it seemed rough, but having played around a bit you still have way more freedom than you did before - when they update it's going to make a huge difference when it comes to exploring new places.

Fortunately the ground vehicles don't use more Plutonium on Survival than Normal, unlike the launch thrusters. It's also way more fun exploring in a buggy than on foot :) Those whip plants are even greater bastards now though.

That's true. Landing should refuel completely. Also spawn pads should also refuel land vehicle.

Maybe a mod can do that.

for those that are confused about finding home bases, from my experience, planets will have 0-2 of them. not every planet has them, and a scan from space will only sometimes reveal one, but you can check for sure by crafting a signal booster on the ground and searching for habitable bases. itll only point you to one at a time, but once you travel to and discover a base, you can scan for a new one and hopefully one will come up

Yeah, but freighters always felt huge, what really gets me is the size of asteroids. Especially those "tiny" ones that break apart when you bump into them (first picture).

That is really nice. I saw brad play this on GB and the game is definitely more appealing than it was when it launched. Hope they continue improving it

Does PS4 Pro do anything for it? I deleted it because I don't have space and I might bother with it again if it's enhanced in anyway, after I pick a Pro up. And yeah, I know external storage works now, but still.

So one of those little cave crabs took out your buggy? That seems a bit silly. Surely that's a bug.

I'm loving the new Faction system. I love how Gek will sell Blueprints for your ship, Korvax will trade you exosuit upgrades and Vykeen will trade you Multi-tool upgrades. Way better then the old system in my opinion.

So an NPC just handed me over this beast but 1 problem.

Yeah per slot mind you the ones in red. DAMN Survival mode is awesome.

Freighters are so expensive... Any tips for earning money fast?

And I have problems recruiting a technician. I built the new specialist station in my homebase, but can't recruit one in a space station.

Forgot how relaxing this is. So much has changed I feel like starting again but I played for about 40 hours on one file and will be upset if I delete it lol.

I went through a black hole and need 400 Aluminium to repair my ship, fuck knows how I will do that since I am now stuck in one Galaxy which has none.

I've spent hours going to planet to planet , system to system , through blackholes to find myself a perfect homeworld

Every world I encountered had some kind of shit weather , radiation , heat , cold , I just can't catch a break.

Finally a discover a "lush" world and I think finally I found it , it's the best world I have ever seen , like some of the worlds from the promo vids.

Then a monsoon storm comes in and ruins it all. Nooooooooooooo

I just want a lush world with no weather dammit.

Now I am stuck on a shit , hot , hellhole with no plutonium in sight , they have really dialled down its frequency which is annoying since it's all your takeoffs use. Looks like I am going to need to go cave hunting.

Would be good to have a toggle for HDR, I really don't like how it looks in this game. I could disable it in the PS4 OS but other games look better with it on.

First time playing since release really, and wow my FPS is so low now. I have a 970 and its like in the low 30s. What gives?

I wanted to ask someone that. Is HDR not a universal good to games? I thought it would look particularly good for this game.

Definitely not. You need to completely rebalance everything to do it right.

And for a game like this where the flares/blooms are exaggerated already (like most games!), it isn't balanced right unless they took the time to make it right.

I restarted my Normal Mode game and that looks a lot like the first weapon that I was given in the game.

I didn't know what the hell was happening when I first looked at it but I love that I'm in control of the repairs and I can upgrade it as I go along without relying on the randomness of finding new weapons. It's hardly cheap to repair the entire weapon but I'm very happy with this way of doing things now.

In all the hours that I've played this game, how the hell have I not noticed that this was a thing?

It looks great in HDR on my screen.

Returned to this game after playing only 30 hours at launch and got bored quickly. Unlike launch, where I got bored extremely quickly, now I'm really satisfied with this game. Even space stations now are much cooler, with more npc (including recruitable characters) and more different layouts. Now it has become what I really hoped (especially with the base sharing; can't wait to find one while exploring).

A lot more materials, crafting, now ships finally have stats. Really great updates.

Giant snakes and multiplayer make it in yet?

No giant snakes, but from what I understand you can finally see other players' bases (that they have built) and see the messages they leave inside. You can also explore them. Plus you can also share the races you created, and other people visiting your base can try to beat your time. Not real multiplayer, but seeing other player's bases (and their messages) should be pretty cool.

I really hope they don't add multiplayer any time soon. They should cater to the people who bought the game based on the premise the game was originally based on. We are the people that helped keep the game alive. Just give me more reason to 'explore' first.

They've definitely made Survivor easier. I've been watching streams and even though lots of people are doing things wrong, they're surviving.

Any idea why when i save a freighter from attacks I get a popup to say go and land and talk to the ship captain , yet when I try to enter it's light is red so I can't enter .

You should probably stop. You sound pretty upset

I know I should but there are things to like... It's just... Normal is goddamn hard! I think I'll do what another said and just settle on a planet and just farm for a while.

After all that stuff I did managed to get my stuff back and land on the planet I was originally intending to. Unlike all the other planets in the system it didn't have any negatives and is actually pretty lush. At least in comparison to the other planets.

I agree with this. Seeing other people's bases and leaving things for them to find fits with the point of the game. Any traditional multiplayer just doesn't make sense. The only way I can see it working is via an in-game game, where you and your friends log into a terminal or a temporary portal that takes you to whatever planet or system you're in. That way you don't magically get taken across the universe, defeating the point of exploration. The only way you should ever get to a friends destination is by chance or because you travelled there yourself. "Add Waypoint For A Friend" would be fantastic.

In fact, how does viewing other people's bases work now? Can you get taken there magically or do you just have to find them?

Surely though, we will soon have a character and that character will be viewable by others (and the photo mode). That's a minimum. Whether that character is customizable or upgradeable is extra.

I think you just have to stumble across a base. I'm sure at some point they'll add the ability to find a friends planet via space travel (my preferred method) or allow for a friend to teleport in. As long as they also make sure the 'visitor' cannot use your ship or any crashed ships on your planet then that's fine.

All Sean Murray ever said is you would be able to see other players. It's starting to annoy me that this has now been completely reinterpreted and people are demanding multiplayer.

Can the buggy do flips and stuff when going over hills and big jumps or does it lock you in place so it doesn't flip and roll over in the air?

They do flip but on landing they right themselves. You can also make tunnels and put your race track through them.

Having a friend to explore with doesn't invalidate your purchase, buddy.

The funniest (by which I mean saddest) part about this is that even at his most optimistic the pitch was always "yeah, you can see other players, but running into them is unlikely to ever happen to anyone."

While the fact that it can't happen does take away some of the mystique, I pretty quickly realized that running into a gamer is the universe's most depressing first contact scenario.
And then this beautiful system greeted me right before the center of the galaxy.

Human sapience was a mistake.

I've been annoyed by that since before the game came out. He repeatedly said it was going to be designed as a single player game. He even said if it was popular enough he might implement a multiplayer aspect (which I totally hope is seperate if he ever does. I bought this game for being a single player game).

To be fair at one point he did say you could shoot some one else if you saw them so at one point he planned that it would be more than just being able to see some one else but I do think he expected it would not be a common thing to encounter some one else and the game was not never planned around being an mp game.

It's the wrong focus for the game. Every day they work on appeasing those who interpreted when Sean Murray said you would be able to see other people as 'multiplayer' is a day wasted for appeasing the very audience this game was aimed at. WE should be the priority, not those who constantly complained the game wasn't what THEY wanted. I bought this game for the singleplayer game it was meant to be and the promoted motive of exploration. Sean Murray has to be very careful here because he could end up losing the audience who stuck with him. As Sean said himself, if you want multiplayer you can always play COD.

Multiplayer should be added a lot further down the line.

LOL. To be fair though, I have found some more imaginatively named Solar Systems out there. I wonder if anyone ever found my planet 'You can see my house from here'?

On another subject: If they do allow us to use vehicles on any planet then they need to rework how you build vehicles in the first place. Currently it's as simple as recruiting the technician. They should give us new resources to discover and require several blue-prints, perhaps one for the main body, one for the wheels and one for platform to spawn it. Give me a reason to 'explore'.

Let's say a group of people populate a region of a galaxy or even system. That's just perfect for some knd of multiplayer experience. They've gone there, set up camp and have created a community. That would be incredible.

If I want to play pool with a mate, it's best we meet up in the local pub. I don't just open my front door and appear in the lobby of the pub. The journey home from the pub is always great.*

*this is possibly the worst or greatest analogy ever :D I now picture drunk a spaceman flying home with a doner kebab, crashing into asteroids...basically Dave Lister ;)

Really struggling to find the elements I need for the engineer to progress my research so I can start developing the vehicle stuff at my base. Visited loads of planets to find that Cactus
