No Mans Sky | PC Performance Thread

Some small stutters on the ground, but doing the tweaks seemed to have helped compared to the first time I booted up the game.

Frame rate becomes absolute ass when in space. Stuttering is awful.

i7@6700/1070/16GB, running on 3440x1440 maxxed out except for AA and V sync. I certainly feel stutter and sometimes FPS drop at 40fps for no reason. Also even the start menu looks low-res...

Should the FPS slider be on "max" or "60fps" if I want 60fps?

Same, it's been brutal.

But issues are issues.

Yet they should take a look at the credits screen and realize that the game doesn't have 100+ people that helped make it.

It's not a total excuse for releasing the game in a sub optimal state, but seriously put into consideration...

I can't help but feel bad for HG a bit :(

Why? They developed the game..

How does this affect the $60 you spent on it

So far it's running ok on my system. I tried to run fraps but it didn't work so I don't know the frame rate, it does drop a lot but I think it's just like, stutter and loading stuff.

Biggest complaint is the controls. I mean, I know it's a port and blah blah, but c'mon, let me use my side mouse buttons, show me the prompts for items and such with PC prompts and not 360 buttons. It took me ages to figure out what to press to rename something before uploading so my starter planet had the weird randomly generated name :(

Also yeah, alt-tab breakes the game if you're running in fullscreen *works fine if you have it set to borderless windowed (and I assume windowed).

If I just stay in one area, it doesn't do the crazy 0 fps stutter, but once I move, it's all over.

The game is also an ugly, blurry mess with an FOV that just feels WRONG.

I have no idea if I can with a good conscience consider keeping this.
It might be a refund.

People are mass negative reviewing it on Steam:

Wanted to play all weekend.

This was the game to end all other games.

105 minutes played on Steam.

Deciding to get my money back or wait.

Whole weekend was planned. Around. NM fuckin S.

980ti, 6700k @ 4.1Ghz, maxed out at 1440p. It stutters a lot at first, then smooths out, but going over hills where it has to draw more stuff or getting in and out of a ship causes more stutter.

Go from about 9:15 on this video when I was streaming it to see for yourself and see if it's bareable (that's when it stopped alt+tab crashing and restarting for video options!)

Thanks! I just ran into your post when I was clicking back pages. I've tortured myself through weeks of PokemonGo, this seems alright so far.

I know this is not really PC "performance" per se, but has anyone tried out Cheat Engine yet? With everything being local for the most part, should be pretty easy to edit your currency or inventory...
Try the main thread. This thread is for whining about things

Stutter is the main issue. High core CPU's are not having that much of an issue. I'm talking 4930k/5930k/6900k etc.
This is what I figured. I'm rocking a 4-core CPU (4670k, OC'd) paired with a 980ti so I'd like to see what performance I get when I'm off work.

I bet the devs wish they could just walk away from this mess. Now they're tasked with not only fixing a completely broken PC port, they also have to mend the PS4 version AND add all the new features that Sean promised, all no doubt with a cloud of negativity hanging over the studio and infamy on the internet.

Or maybe they made so much money from this game they don't care.

They could've delayed the PC version for longer than 3 days.

Uh.

So I had all settings at max.

Ingame VSync disabled.

Driver VSync enabled.

Got around 40-55 fps.

Decided to change the ingame FPS counter from 60 to MAX just for funsies.

I now have a constant 60 fps.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah that's a total bummer. I happen to really really love the game and was seriously considering double dipping and getting it on PC but I'm not gonna mess around with my 970. I'll stick with my PS4 version for now.

Goddamn this is a shame for real though. This fucking game should fly on a high end PC.

Maybe it's time they hire some more fucking people, then. Boasting about how you only have 10 people on your team does not stand when you're releasing a product with this much ambition/marketing on two platforms. They've got the sales, time to ramp up that team.

I wonder if DF will get their analysis of the PC version out before/during the weekend. Sure would love to see it.

You guys having the most severe sound stuttering, are you playing borderless by any chance? It was bad in dedicated fullscreen, but I made a change while streaming ad decided to to restart the game and holy shit, this is borderline unplayable in borderless window.

Seems to totally lock up for seconds at a time.

7950 gets me 30-40ish frames but it crashes down into the single digits alot. Those are on medium setting with vsync off and max fps set. In space i get this weird artifacting. Its like giant rectangles sliding up and down on the screen. I dont know if I need drivers or what but I hope they get some patches out. The game seem kind of okay.

Playing in borderless but the performance really seems to be tied to where you are. First planet was perfect, second planet with much less going on muuuuch worse.

Cool. This seems to be working for lots of people.

Does anyone else have a GTX 970/i7 4790k combo? I can't buy the game right now but I would love to hear performance reports

GTX 970/i7 4790k user here. Game stutters a bit when it's generating the planet around you, like when you're flying or when you first start the game, but otherwise is a mostly stable 60 FPS maxed out at 1080p.

Does anyone else not even have an option to change the graphics settings? Mine will not change from medium to anything higher. I can't even change it to low. Buttons just do nothing.

Edit: Feel so stupid guys. Didn't realize you had to hold down the button for nearly a second for changes to occur. LOL.

Fuck me, right? Let's get to it!

Totally agree about Sean's constant references to their small team. It's like bragging that you're going to run a marathon without doing any training. It's great to have ambition, but you have to be realistic and reasonable. His team must be devastated.

If you don't have the man power to do it on time, delay it.

Damn my impulse buying and thank God for Steam refunds. I just jumped on this, 3770k @ 4.1Ghz/16GB/980ti. Will report back with performance, really, really hoping I'm not too let down.

The Steam discussion forum is a real shit show. Anyway, I am running it on a Gaming PC 1070/i5 at 1440p 60fps with no issues and a couple year old gaming laptop 965m/i7 45fps with no issues.

Fixed most of my issues by putting FPS to MAX and Vsync On. Still get stutters now and then (as if it's loading something).

Also, wish I could push the foliage render distance out farther, but it seems to be forced to the same distance as the PS4.

Thanks for this, though the top one does look like actual 100 fov to me (a bit hard to tell with a pic that's mostly sky though). Are there any other good tweakable settings in that file?

You mean bottom one ? Dunno yet, will report as soon as more is found.
