Wow, 88 cents at Wal Mart and by far the best instant ramen noodles I've ever had. Nice and spicy too, sturdy styrofoam bowl. But it's the actual noodles that are so tasty.

It's Shin Sen Gumi. You should also know this is the kind of ramen served in Fukuoka, Japan, not just a restaurant in several locations in California (and one in Japan).

yeah I knew it spelled it all jacked up, well its pretty obvious that its not served only in CA......

either way, its awesome

I just new asian gaf would make fun of instant noodles.
But for 88 cents and 4 minutes in the microwave at work makes for a quick tasty meal. I've tried lots of different brands, so far this is my favorite.

I like the kimchi flavor, but I something tells me it probably doesn't taste much like kimchi. Probably a good thing :D

You can just as easily buy real noodles, and just add boiling water from a kettle or something. Add a few leftovers and mmmmmm.

I've been to the one in San Gabriel or whatever city its in.

I really dig it though they are kinda light on the meat.

Anyway anybody know if one can purchase noodles from them? I really like the ones they use.

glass noodles
silver noodles
woon sen

There are many names for that type of noodle. I find them too annoying to eat, they are tasty but take forever to get full.

A great Thai dish is "yum woon sen", a spicy and tangy glass noodle salad dish with ground pork and loads of red chillies/lime.

I consider it more of a starter dish than a meal...

Oh gross, Kimchi-flavored ramen? Gag me.

I haven't had ramen in aaaaaages, and for whatever reason I've been craving it a lot. Maybe it's the whole "starving college student" thing, but I've got plenty of noodles here at my apartment... Shrug.

I usually shop at Asian food joints (im black btw) but I never could find any good noodles, but there is this awesome Pho over in Alhambra, thats not to far from SG

I kid you not when I say this, but I think just about every asian in my 98% white town works at an asian restraunt. Nong Shim is as good as it get's around here for the instant stuff, because I bet all those mostly chinese restraunt workers can cook noodles from scratch.

Noodles are from Japan. I don't know if you know any Japanese.

The noodles are specially designed not to be cooked for a long time. They seem to boil them for a minute or two and then take them out.

I just buy big ass bag of rice noodle, and last me a whole week or two. I like instant noodle, but the amount is not enough to fill me. Plus the sodium for some of them is pretty high.

Just do what they do in Asian countries. Throw that stupid salt/seasoning pack away and add your own. Fish-sauce/soy/spice/etc..
Ground up some pork/chick/tofu fry it in a pan, add egg, miso paste, fresh vegetables, etc...

not much different from what we do with pieces of bread, its a quick tasty snack, with whatever you have the fridge.

only noobs use those stupid packets...

Nong Shim spice packs are good. Spicy and hot, but not to the point where it burns my mouth. Oh, and too little sodium causes heart attacks.

yeah dont use the packet they give you.

I like to make my own broth and sometimes I will save it for when I make noodles later in the week so I dont have to go thru the trouble.

I like using: dashi granules (used for making dashi stock, you can use bonito flakes or the granules), some miso, and a third ingredient usually chosen on the spot at random since I like to try out different stuff.

my friend hates going to Asian supermarkets, he isn't black but Sri Lankan (he is pretty dark though). He thinks most of the people are starting at him, and I saw maybe a few are lol but thats just how some Chinese folk are.

What is this awesome Pho place in Alhambra you speak of? I've been to several in area and I'm not too easily impressed these days as I can make it as good or better than many of the places I've been to in the past but if its any good I'd give it a try anyway.

Nong Shim rules the instant noodle realm. The texture of the noodle is nice and chewy. The broth packs are pretty good.

I love to tweak them: some wakame, a bit of kimchi, some gochujang, can of tuna, some sesame oil and seeds

*drool*

Those things are so fucking tasty but so hard to find in my area. When I find them in stock I usually get as many as I can. =P

Glad to see some Nong Shim support. I wasn't sure if it was just me that thought they were extra good as instant noodles go. My walmart stocks kimchi, picante, and chicken flavor; which all tastes kind of the same to me. Located in the foreign foods section and not with the rest of the instant noodles.

God, I might just have bowl #2 tonight.

whats the name of it?

If its any good most likely its been reviewed on Yelp.com

Wow, didn't know you guys loved Korean Instant ramen that much. I myself can't get enough of Nissin's Tonkotsu ramen, but I don't mind Nong Shim's stuff as well.

That said tho, I still prefer fresh chinese egg noodles over practically anything.

it has the most generic name but it is good, its called Pho 99. iirc its off Main and alhambra.

Geez do you know how much effort it takes to actually create your own shit? Sometimes you just want to enjoy the convenience of pre-packaged noodles. And it's cheaper, believe it or not.

I buy Neoguri all the time, best ramen ever!

Neoguri means raccoon in korean :o

This thread will now be about how koreans eat dogs and raccoons.

OP wins. Bowl Noodle owns.

Though, the random instant noodles I bought while in Tokyo were fuck-awesome also. I just don't remember any of their brand names.

Everyone talks about Shinsengumi @ SoCal. I tried it once at the San Gabriel(Rosemead?) location, and did not particularly care for it.

Santa Ramen ftw.

On topic, I also prefer Neoguri for instant stuff.
