Not Sure I Can Handle Social Media Anymore

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Went on to a subreddit on the at-home work I do.

I asked a simple, polite question about how I would file my taxes on the upcoming simplified tax form the IRS is going to release for people like me who make so little that usually don't file.

I got downvoted then had some dick who knew nothing about that simplified tax form start giving me shit for not filing my taxes and so on.

I'm just fucking tired of social media. I really don't think with my growing anxiety and all the crap happening in my personal life that I can take it anymore.

I even limited myself here in the past few days due to all manner of bad luck I've been having.

Twitter is done for and I have about 16 friends on Facebook.

The only platform I still give any shits about is Youtube and that's just because I only use it to watch walkthroughs and LPs.

Yeah dude

It's pretty bad

I use social media for butt models and my favorite sports teams, movies studios etc but other than that I try to stay of it all, unless GAF counts
I don't know what it is with people.

No matter how polite you are to someone, they'll insist on being complete fucking asshats.

I've seen people be utter pieces of shit to people who only post cute animal pics and imo that's just heartbreaking and really shows how shitty people can really be.

It's too bad you just learned that but its been mostly a shit show for years now.
Twitter is the worst of the bunch.

Why you posting these ugly looking things, what the hell are they? Some kind of deformed squirrel's or somethig.
Twitter is the worst, definitely.

Listen to yourself, and take a break. When you feel like this, what I could best term as your subconscious, is trying to tell you something your conscious doesn't realize as it keeps plunging back in to feed the addiction.

The thing about people is that interacting with them is one of life's greatest joys.

The other thing about people is that most of them are absolutely moronic, insufferably immature psychopaths, and will drive you insane in too much quantity.

Never has that been more evident than in the social media era.

It's up to us to find the balance that lets us both enjoy the first, and minimize the second, while investing our time with the right people.

I mean I guess I'm weird or whatever or maybe it's just because I'm older, but I actually try to be nice and respectful to everyone online even if they tick me off.

The guy on Reddit though I basically said 'look I've been polite about this so there was no need for you being a fucking asshat about it'. He told me to eat dick afterwards and moments later deleted all his crappy replies.

I think Reddit is shitty too because of the downvoting system. Assholes will downvote and are downvote happy no matter what you say.

Certain reddits like r/Diablo are fucking cancers this way.

I have seen your posts in quite a few threads recently. I'm starting to think you may be depressed.

You're not weird, bruh. I know exactly what you mean. I think all of us, or most of us, have experienced the exact scenario on Reddit. Reddit is a weird place.

i mean there really aren't mods on those platforms to make sure ppl are playing nice enough and to banhammer annoying users and throw out the trash.

Oh for sure, I deleted my Twitter about five years ago and my Facebook is strictly family and close friends only (and even they piss me off sometimes).

It's just not worth keeping up with. I don't suffer from a fragile disposition as some might call it but goddamn it's just tiring wading through all the vitriol.

Just bookmark your favorite porn fetish subreddits and forget the rest.

Wow ok fuck this guy

Twitter is probably the worst invention in the history of mankind.

One day future generations will look back on the twitter archives and think WTF were these people doing.

It's compounded after this whole fucking Coronavirus shit, my dad's health, my dog still having blood in her urine, my own health (I've been having lots of fatigue, faintness, panic attacks and going to a doctor now seems like bad idea), and being complete broke and other personal life issues I'm fed up and having giving up ideology more than usual.

I've even been avoiding this place the last couple days or so due to everything.

Probem is ngl I'm pretty much alone except for my dad but can't really talk to him much so I come here just to keep somewhat sane right now. I pretty much have nothing and nobody so I do this but I also don't want to so I don't know.

I'm so glad that shit isn't here. Imagine getting thirty downvotes on gaming side, the second you talk about someone's favorite plastic box the wrong way.

It's just an incentive for echo chambers, overly PC speech, and for cowards to hide behind their 'disagree button', instead of actually backing up their viewpoint.

In a better world, people would only use it for truly trash content. In this one, it floods the entire act of socialization with negativity.

Twitter used to be cool before society became super political. Now it's a shithole dominated by group think, constant bickering and some of the worst takes imaginable.

That's a rough hand. My sympathies.

If it were me, I would just do social media in moderation. Also, if something seems like it's going the wrong way, or going to attract a certain crowd, bail out. Just focus on fun, entertaining things, and use the ignore/block/whatever buttons on whatever you need to.

That's pretty much what I do.

Entertainment is sort of limited here though especially ever since I no longer have a PC with Internet access.

Ccombined with everything in my city shut down and being flat broke makes things worse. Ladt money I got went all into bills and a short supply of food which is running out.

So there's not much in the way of entertainment here.

And look, I can get wht someone would be mad at someone else not filing their taxes, but when you make less than 1k a year, it's not like you're going to be paying taxes anyhow.

With everything going on, I'm just not in a good place.

I hope things get better for you. (Hug) Keep pushing. Take care of yourself. I find there tends to be a light in the tunnel eventually.

I got rid of all my main social media a couple years ago like facebook and instagram. It's nice not having those and now I'm working on mostly eliminating reddit browsing except for a couple specific subreddits I get too angry on there. It is tiring OP.

Stay strong mate. That sounds really rough but you will get through it.
Definitely quit the toxic parts of social media, i.e. reddit, twitter. If you struggle IRL you shouldn't make it worse by getting involved in the twitter cancer.

I'm deactivated on Twitter.

If something this minor sets you off then as you said shit just ain't right for you at the moment.

The little bitch who gave me shit on Reddit got downvoted so hard you have to click his name to see the replies.

Fuck that POS.

I think social media is usually bad but this Coronavirus situation is making people worse. One of my cousins who is usually a chill guy, has recently been getting aggro at one of my uncles over social media for living in the same house as my grandmother. My uncle is her carer as she is about 83, but my cousin is insisting he should leave the house because my grandmother could catch the virus. I think pandemics make people act more illogically then usual, trolls on social media more so.
Also if you want to keep your mind off of things, the Xbox power memes thread is pretty funny. Unless you don't like Xbox, then I don't know where other funny threads are.

I dumped Facebook a few years ago. It wasn't planned, I was just going to take a break for a month or so. I discovered that I didn't miss it and I had more time. I still have my account because of things like DragonCon planning, 3D printer groups (for support), etc... but I almost never pull it up and I never pull it up for anything outside of those specific purposes. I have a Twitter account that I check pretty frequently, but I really just sort of scan my feed and move on. Social Media is generally pretty terrible.

I feel ya.

I've dumped Facebook for the most part and only check marketplace for retro PC/game deals on my fake account.

Twitter I only follow TTRP, gaming, and art accounts.

I barely touch Reddit aside from when links are sent to me (mostly gaming, cute animal links)

And really I only interact with this forum, and even then I've stayed away from console warrior trash.

So yeah limiting myself and it's been great. I'll seek out news when I want to and not the other way around, I think that for me is key.

Have a good day, OP.

I'll say this...the women on my Snapchat/IG/Facebook.

i can easily tell who the narcissist/attention whores are as they've ramped up their postings/stories within the past X weeks.

Im going to limit my viewing as I just don't care right now

Only social media i use anymore is Era and GAf. I stopped using my facebook because my feed was always filled with people spewing toxic trash and it wasn't worth my time or mental energy fighting with people when it's not going to change anything or make me feel any better.

I cut a good amount of friends, but i don't regret it.

Abandoned Twitter very early on.. It's just noise now.
Facebook is full of shit, hate their double set of rules, left it about a year ago and haven't looked back.
Tried to use reddit for a while when gaf was at its low point but it in many ways is as bad or worse than reeeeset with the nut jobs making the most noise and many subs overrun by leftist unemployable basement dwellers.

I'm just happy gaf is back to normal. It fits my news and gaming interests pretty well.
(the endless console warring gets old though)
