Now that MGS3 has restored my faith in the series, whats the word on Metal Gear Acid?

Card battle *shudder* I know. Have any hot and heavy links to previews? Any journalists types play an early copy? Is Acid! gonna shatter the MGS series once more? Lets get the low down!

Go and play Metal Gear Solid/Ghost Babel on the GBC if you haven't already....it's an awesome game.

Isn't Acid being made by a different team from the people that worked on the other MGS games?

Heh, Ghost Babel is the only GBC color game I own.

From what I have read, Metal Gear Acid! is being made from a new, young team.

Yeah, but isn't the director the same guy that did Ghost Babel? I could have sworn I saw that on their website.

he's involved. i forget in what capacity.

why do people hate card battle games -- i keep asking this in threads but i never get a response. i mean, have you played one and think it's shitty or do you just assume it is because of the social stigma...?

this question is open to anybody. =)

The passive nature of the card system doesn't appeal to me. This is the same reason why I don't play menu-based RPGs.

I've played The Pokemon Carg came on the GBC, PSO Ep III, one of the myriad Yugi-oh titles, and some other game I cannot recall offhand now, and I just don't dig the high level of randomness in the gameplay that they offer.

I understand that is a game of longterm strategy, not short term strategy and skill (which I prefer) and that it probably takes quite some time to "get into it." I just don't find them any fun. It's impossible to get engaged in the short run, and I've no matter how much I stick with them, I just can't get into it in the long run either.

Social stigma. As a personal account the only people I've ever seen play TCGs in real life are kids and unwashed anime worshipping tards (and no, I am not generalizing this time.)

But..but.,. YuGiOh is the greatest!

I've played PSO Ep. 3 a lot, and the biggest issue I had with that game was how long it would take to complete a game. Animations, time between turns and stuff took too long.

I probably would have played Culdcept if it was available and cheap enough.

I learned to play Yi-Gi-Oh with the GBA tournament game (got it used cheap, and it was way cheaper than buying the actual cards). Man, that's an odd game. But it lead to me watching the TV show a few times.
Now, when my roommate asks to play a few rounds of Magic (I don't buy cards anymore, but I still have a few decks), when I want to bug him I just yell out all the rules and moves each turn and taunt him into giving up, and then react with utter shock and disbelief when he kicks my ass.

I'm probably one of those guys belgurdo can't stand. :D

Same here.

My problem with card battle is the limited ability the games hamper on you. The only attacks you have are the ones the game assigns to you through the cards. I'm not exactly sure how MG:A stacks up. Why don't you tell us more abou thte game ferricide! :D

er, sorry...

yeah, i dropped RL CCG playing forever ago for the same reason (couldn't stand the crowd). but i still think that there's a ton of interesting gameplay potential in it. culdcept and CFC are two of my favorite games...

i've never bothered trying any of the yugioh games cos they look so ghetto/cash-in.

baten kaitos and KH COM both have some good CCG elements but they're both so easy you don't need to deal with any deeper strategizing, kind of killing the whole point of CCGing.

the random element can be very frustrating because you can just get fucked through no fault of your own, especially if a game's challenging (you won't get fucked in BK no matter how bad your hands are -- up to and including the inability to actually act for several turns in a row -- cos it's so bloody easy. culdcept will sodomize you, on the other hand.)

as for MGA, i dunno. it looks to have potential and i'll definitely give it a shot. i don't think i have any insights to offer on the game that haven't been examined elsewhere...
