Im still amazed at peoples "surprise" with the xbone losing to the ps4. This gen was lost before it even launched. But not only that, the tipping point was reached long ago were upgraders would be following their friends to PS.

I don't think giving the xbone away would turn things around.

The xbone is a disaster.

Caught up ~ I was wrong! Thanks Cream (and Cosmic for the initial drops)

- Poor MLB constantly being forgotten in this thread. "Did Sony release an exclusive this month?" "Nintendo is the only one with exclusives this month!" over and over.

- Minecraft PS4 ahead of XBO. Is that the first time this happened?

- Happy for Twilight Princess. My second favorite Zelda. Sorry, Abdiel but not sorry :p

SFV got wrecked, deserved quite frankly.

Release a game just for the benefit of the FGC = GG Capcom

Except it doesn't just benefit FGC it benefits gamers who just want to play a quality fighter, train with a character and get fight money to buy upcoming characters for free. If online competition scares people you can still do all that without going online. You know whom it doesn't benefit? collectors who just want to put it on the shelf after a few hours. Countless games in the past has shown that these days you simply can't judge a game aiming to deliver content for years on the basis of day 1.

That audience has shrunk over the last few years.

And that's the truth. Also that Capcom burnt bridges with casuals after many SF4 iterations. It's a shame because Capcom said all the right things regarding post release content, oh well their loss, I'm having a hell of a time with SFV.

To be fair most Sony AAA exclusives title aside from uncharted 4 (come on) and bloodborne has failed miserably financially imo. I think Microsoft exclusives are doing better.

WTF you're talking about? Outside The Order, all other exclusives sold well. IIRC Andrea Pessino said before that they are close to 1 mil. or similar a long ago.

I mean... their PR might have been "This is 4 The H4RDC0R3S!", (and some people who in their heads are super serious not casual bro who would therefore defend it to the death regardless) but SFV wasn't really 'for' anyone except the investors who needed a tentpole release before the end of quarter financials and the marketers who had already booked their advertising slots.

It was content light - and let's not pretend its content light because of 'hardcore focus', because an arcade mode would have been cheaper and easier to add than the story mode it came with, and they went as far as making various different backgrounds when 'the hardcore' would have been happy with just the training mode stage to fight in. Or hell, even just a Final Destination platform floating in space.

It was priced as a full AAA title, despite having the roadmap and IGC purchases of a F2P game, yet its retail marketing never covered important details of what was and was not included at launch and when features would eb dropping. If you weren't following every pre-release news item in the specialist press (and if you're the sort of person doing that, I'd say its a pretty good chance you're the sort of person who had already pre-ordered and was buying no matter what) you missed important details

It was (and still is in some ways) functionally broken; online at launch was a mess. There is (still) no adequate solution for Rage Quitters to the extent that online play is only intermittently fun, and even the biggest FGC champions must concede that the number of people who physically go to venues to enter tournaments is an extreme minority of players

Just shockingly mishandled release all round.
I love Streetfighter, and I don't really want to see the franchise die, but frankly, it got more sales than it actually deserved to with a release like this.

Any numbers for Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and Nights of Azure? For CS, I'd love to know how it did following its ~64k last month.

Just a question, why when ROTR flopped most people said exclusivity deal hurt the game a lot but now when SF5 bombed hard no one think that?

Except survival mode and story mode are garbage

Where's my traditional arcade ladder mode and customizeable vs CPU options?

Because Microsoft had little marketing for RotTR and the bundle was only limited to Best Buy and Microsoft Store. Microsoft literally sent it out to die. Sony, on the other hand, marketed SFV well and even built up hype at PSX. Not sure about the bundles, though. Anyway, most of us who are active on Sales GAF don't have an agenda and we state only facts.

Edit: Also, just to add, Microsoft paid a lot more attention to the Fallout 4 bundle last year.

Didn't say anyone have any agenda, just genuinely asked why no one think that a game like SF5 wouldn't hurt from being exclusive.

? You do not see the difference between a critically and user acclaimed game (ROTTR) that launched feature complete (albeit with problems on the PC version afaik), as opposed to a bare bone full price Fighter game that was shredded at its launch for an ill advised release?

What hurt ROTTR was indeed the exclusivity, but also its window of release.

Ultimately, of course that SFV was going to make less money on 2 platforms instead of 3 (just like ROTTR), but it's not its main problem at all, whereas for TR it was one of the 2 big problems it had (and excluding the leading platform with arguably its historically most dedicated fanbase to boot).

An exclusivity deal would definitely have resulted in less sales, but most of the core fighting game fans are on PlayStation anyway. Besides, the exclusivity deal wasn't the reason the game flopped. The bad word of mouth due to the lack of content killed sales. Very different reason from RotTR.

Wow just looked backed and seen the high 3DS number estimates.

Always ruining my predictions >.<
I see no major software out so I'm wondering what's caused the large spike?

Disaster is a strong word.

It's also a word that has been used at MS.

Indeed.

You don't go from being No.1 in the USA last gen to getting spanked on hardware and software the next.
No business person in this industry would plan ahead for that to be the case and be doing cart wheels.

How exactly does a rushed product benefit anyone? The only thing "positive" about this was that people could play a very content light product earlier and shortly before an unsignificant tournament. Since SF5 didn´t go the route of a complete new character cast and instead to mostly rehashing old characters, I really can´t see anyone beneffitting in the actual lackluster amount of characters available, people actually have favourites and variety is always welcome by anyone. Guess what, also hardcore fighting gamers would have loved to play with or against the dozen still missing characters known from previous SF entries, instead of playing the waiting game even after buying the game.

XB1 was not going to save SF5, whether it was on that platform or not.

Hey guys, seems like this was a good month sales-wise. But wait, PS4 was only up by a small amount. Are consoles dead yet? This is usually around the time we proclaim, yeah?

Gravity Rush, Tearaway Unfolded, Driveclub...

It's actually hit and miss, but it's not because the games are bad.

Does anyone know how much MLB sells over a year? I think that franchise is really overlooked. If it can make like a 500k (I think it might be more) a year its a pretty amazing IP to own

How? If anything, the sales show the opposite. Mortal Kombat's success, and it's repeated success (charting again on the NA and EU PSN top downloads for March 2016 with a new $60 release with SFV nowhere to be seen) shows that a lot of people will pay $60 for a fighting game if there's substantial amount of content, even if the game is a year old.

I do agree that the state that Street Fighter V was/is in, Capcom would've been better off going with KI's model rather than a full $60 release. Lower initial entry price would've set better expectations, less negative reactions, less negative word of mouth, and would've been better received in general. But I hope low content releases don't become a common thing for fighting games.

MK is a very special case in the west that reaches people that aren't normally interested in fighters. I guess it's arguable SF could break into that group if it ever became as SP content heavy, but we all know that isn't going to happen frankly.

As an MLB fan I really appreciate Sony's continued support but to be fair the market for baseball games is dead compared to FIFA, Madden, NBA2K or heck even the NHL.

Nah, man, the consoles already died a long, long time ago. Now, their corpses are being cremated. Next month, watch their ashes being scattered to the heartless sea. In May NPD, the PS4 will be reborn like a phoenix. :p

I know it cant compare to stuff like FIFA but, if it sells at least 500k a year, its pretty good for an yearly exclusive. Some games take three or four years to develop and they struggle to sell more than that

All the sports games I mentioned bar NHL all sell significantly better than MLB on PS4. They are all annual releases. Like I said, glad for the support but the sales figures are nothing to rave home about.

Hyperbole.

The sales are actually pretty good, the PS4 just happens to have been in beast mode since day one.
But there’s a lot of that going around isn’t it? What is hyperbole versus what is a disaster?

If SFV manages 1 million units by June, is that a “disaster” or just really bad because of how much past SF games have sold? If TR sells well on PS4, is it a disaster? Or bad because the previous edition sold 7-8million?

Fact is X360 dominated the U.S, and has cut their market share essentially in half. It’s not just PS4 is doing incredibly well, so it makes X1 look weak, no, the cut from last gen is enormous. And you can call it a disaster all the same as SFV is, TR is, and DC was, but it’s all hyperbole to some extent.

I know man, but they have EA backing them up, Plus those sports (I dont really know about NHL tbh) are way bigger than Baseball.

Im just saying when you think its an exclusive that Sony can put out every year, its a good deal, They prob dont spend that much on the development

Yup. I bought MK '09 and MKX, but have never bought a Street Fighter game. I think the only other franchise I've bought anything from is Soul Caliber.

Out of interest. What makes arcade ladder more interesting than Survival? As an online player I think they are both snoozefests so I'm interested to know why the Survival mode sucks for people in it for SP content.

Timid month.
Just a question, why when ROTR flopped most people said exclusivity deal hurt the game a lot but now when SF5 bombed hard no one think that?

Because the fact that the majority of TR audience exists on PC and Playstation, which is why it was an extremely dumb deal by SE.

Kill confirmed. I wish I was in beast mode since day one :(

On a serious note, I'm not so sure the Xbox One is doing "pretty good" considering the amount of times it has dropped in price in 2 1/2 years.
