I was more reacting to the "phenomenal" part. The game is undeniably a success, especially for the Wii U, but for example in Japan the game is definitely a phenomenal success seeing as it's bigger than everything, bar New Super Mario Bros. U that was eventually bundled whereas Splatoon was not.

A better question would probably be, where does it stand in the US compared with the other Wii U tentpoles?

Hm, dang, it's hard to know.

I guess we can start with what it's definitely below:

NSMBU, Nintendoland (due to bundles I would think), MK8, Smash, and 3D World I believe.

Seems like that's it.

Wheras in Japan it's above Smash and 3d World.

Can capcom ever win the hearts and minds of casuals? Or that ship has sailed with the mistreatment of them for 3 barebones game now? Marvel 3, SFxTekken and now SFV. What can capcom do anymore? Imo they should sell the rights of SF to NRS and disband. Then we can forever have MKvsSF and SF games made by NRS fighting engine....

I bought it on Amazon for $10 and went back to SF4. I'm a casual SF player, and for me there's not really much to do in SF5. The game looks pretty and the combat is good, but there just aren't enough characters and modes for most people.

And how often do you play sf4, having gone back to it? How often did you play it before getting sf5?

I’m interested in this, what exactly do you do in SF4? I’m definitely on the opposite end as I found going through Arcade mode with all characters an absolute chore just to get colors/unlocks whatever. Trials, Last Man standing, Survival modes, all of it, I completely ignored and just played online ranked or lobbies, what would be a great mode for SFV to add?

I’m genuinely asking as I’ll be sure to post it to Ono on twitter and go the Capcom unity with the suggestion.

Closing in on 3 years of first party releases. In comparison to what Sony and Microsoft did last-gen, its depressing.

Sony first party didn't really get going until four years in. Having Bloodborne+ Ratchet is a good start comparatively.

Ah you addressed that point below.

eh, I got plenty to play man...I would rather they take their time and release something great.

I had PS3 only early, and I think it’s overstated how amazing those gamers were. I remember playing VF5, Pixel Junk Monsters and Warhawk a long time before the games start setting in. I think Sony’s first party output has slowed down a bit, but Nintendo has been good, and I don’t think MS has ever been particularly good.

Now that I think about it, Sony's first party was very slow the first few years, so I guess it's par for the course for Sony. But the first few years of 360, Microsoft was kinda killing it. Here's what Microsoft published their first 3 years on the Xbox 360.

2005
Retail
Kameo: Elements of Power
Perfect Dark Zero
Project Gotham Racing 3

2006
Retail
Gears of War
Ninety-Nine Nights
Viva Piñata

2007
Retail
Blue Dragon
Crackdown
Forza Motorsport 2
Fuzion Frenzy 2
Halo 3
Mass Effect
Project Gotham Racing 4
Project Sylpheed
Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action
Shadowrun
Tenchu Z
Viva Piñata: Party Animals
Xbox Live Arcade Compilation

Then Don Mattrick took over the Xbox division and completely restructured (IE Ruined) their first party production. Now compare that to what they've done during the same span on the Xbox One.

It's sad, 360 is probably my favorite console ever, and mainly because of those first few years.

But sorry to derail the thread.

I think they just play half an hour everyday or do a run of Arcade mode a day in hardest settings. But that's ok if thats how they like to play nothing wrong with that.

Ok ok, now all their games have been barebones and they should just let Netherrealm make their games.. Obviously this is the answer.

Unghh...dude, SF and MK are so thematically different. That would be awful. Anime themes, light heartedness, goofy characters like Elf and R.Mika. And you want Mr. Boon to take over that with his hell themes? Nah...wouldn’t touch it with a 200ft. pole. SF lives and dies with Capcom, and I think it will live on just fine.

I also think Sub-zero and Scorpion are really cool, but 2 very different philosophies on fighting games.

SfV didn't release in March so why is this Thread about SFV? Am I missing something it barely charted the month it released, so why is it a shock it didn't in march?

A half an hour everyday? Since ultra? Or since vanilla? I'm really curious how people can find the cpu so interesting to out hundreds of hours of play into it.

Ubisoft is absolutely killing it with sales numbers. Goodness gracious.

Now invest some of that money into new UbiArt projects, please!

You don't want to see ryu perform fatality on ken? That's one of the main attraction of NRS games.
also it was joke btw. Just the though of having a sf game in that stiff NRS fighting engine............

Oh yeah, 360 was PS2.0 in the beginning. Then, it happened lol? I guess as you say Don Mattrick took over.

lol...maybe when I was 12...lol

An M-rated SF might do wonders, but I would think Capcom developers would be too prideful to emulate their rivals.

Come home, kick back and relax playing arcade or some other mode.(love the various stuff in MK) Online is different, that's when you have to be serious, not very conductive to relaxation.

Nah man..some users are partying...I’m not about to start quoting though.

"Sony’s exclusives fails again” may have more to do with it than anything. But I also think casuals feel vindicated somewhat they weren’t well represented and are mocked at online for not being good enough to compete.

To me, they are still scrubs lol...That’s what fighting games are all about IMO, getting to a point where your skill is on a level equal to your opponent, only then do you “get it” and it becomes a chess match. but there’s no denying, you need a pool of new players to grow the user base, so SP content is important. meh, who knows what will happen down the road. I can say Evo is almost as exciting as the Super Bowl for me, so there’s that.

It was not only casuals that were saying that .
It was hardcore gamers like me , SF is a content light game is fact .
And some of the things capcom did with it makes no fucking sense .
Like how you have to unlock colors , like how you get nothing from playing off line vs or casual online games .
Hell thanks to it not selling well the league system is broken as hell .

Side note why the hell sagat or akuma was not one of the first DLC characters if they were not in the main game.

Casual matches m8. I almost exclusively play non-ranked modes in fighting games because I just like screwing around.

NPDs are so boring now. Guess the next two months will be more interesting with Quantum Break, Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted 4.

It's boring if you are a console warrior or like to see the sparring between warriors, still a lot of interesting discussion if you look for it.

Edit: for example, I find the SFV/FG discussions in this thread pretty good

I play a couple of matches every now and then. I'm actually playing more now than I did before SF5 because I felt the SF hype and "rediscovered" the game, in a way.

I’m interested in this, what exactly do you do in SF4? I just like trying out all the different characters, going through Arcade Mode, things like that. I know it's a brand new entry, but going from dozens of characters to only 16 feels like such a downgrade. I know the pro players are loving it and that's great, but keep in mind I am in no way one of those. I just play because I like that universe, I love and grew up with all these characters, and I respect the series for what it has done to the industry. That it looks and plays a little bit better doesn't do much for me if the content isn't there.

No one can deny that compared to the Wii U's success as a piece of hardware it's produced more big hits than expected. That's an obvious positive for Nintendo - they're on the right path and as relevant as ever software-wise, and should only come up with a console launch that's not as obviously and thoroughly mangled as the Wii U, with _more_ of these games, to see even more hits coming.

fair enough. Some of the design issues are badly thought out. You should get your FM offline or not, and the easy story mode could have just been made into a standard Arcade lol...Like it’s there, just code it differently. I think Capcom devs were smoking some good.

This Street Fighter V talk is played out. We all know it flopped. It barely charted in February, but people really expected it to chart again in March? This is just a re-hash of last month's discussion. Just replace Naruto with Pokken.

No, if im facing a real person I want to fucking win
lol...I feel you, it’s not the same as playing against CPU, you learn the CPU, with casuals, there’s a different human on the other side of that match every time, even if no rank points are on the line.

Well, hopefully there’s like a million other fans like you out there who’s just waiting for there to be 5-6 different SP modes and 30 characters and they buy it for $40. I’d like to bop some newbies once in a while and feel like a senpai training new comers.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Cream, thanks for all the numbers you already gave us.
Also, I'd love to see Nintendo Selects as well :p

Eh opinions and all I guess but personally I'd delete that whole first two years (couple alright titles but two whole years there) .... Year 3 looks solid. I bought a 360 several years down the line which felt good

Thx Cream, for what you do.

Sorry for being an idiot, but how do you guys interpret Cream's pie chart in terms of numbers?

Yep. Extremely. These SFV Apologists make me sick to my stomach and I say that as someone who's a fan of the series. To be honest, I feel a lil bad about talking shit about SFV since I've loved the series for over 20 years. At the same time, they fucked up bad and it hurts but you just gotta be real about it. They did it to themselves. It's like Old Yeller or something. I can't stand when companies screw up a series I love, I just can't believe this happened but then again it's Capcom, I should have known given last-gen.

But this begs the question...

People thought the March Update would help this game, shit didn't do a thing and it'll likely continue so those who are heavily defending it I gotta ask...how long is it going to take for this game to stand on it's own two? How long does it need until it gets some sales, some content? How long do we need here? I keep hearing "nah next month's updates-" and all that crap but it'll keep going on and on and on and on and on.

Capcom just needs to do a major re-release and people need to stop apologizing for their shitty business model. They shat on the floor so now they need to lie in it.

Yep. A complete fuck up. They should've copied the model of casuals first/EVO second like MK and Smash. It's going to have to rerelease when it's finished with masses of content and a budget price.

Are NPD software sales even a reliable source for software anymore? I know 1 maybe 2 people out of a group of 30 that buys physical games now.

Man, I feel bad for Capcom.

Dont be. People have screamed, begged and pleaded with Capcom to not take advantage of its fanbase, nurture its Community and take risks with bringing back its classic IP.

People are looking at SFV sales and seeing doom, but nearly nothing Capcom has put out this generation has been a massive success. Strider was instantly forgotten, rev 2 fell flat, RE 6 has been one remaster too many, DmC: Apology edition basically got ignored and DMC4 just didnt generate the hype it should of.

Capcom, as we know it cannot survive this generation. As a company they have scared away their best talent, both from a development and business point of view and gamers are now a generation temoved from their best era so now they cannot coast games purelfy on brand name alone.

Yep.

The hardcore fans/FGC will play SF regardless of how the game is, they'll always pick it up so it's better to have focused on those casuals more because at the end of the day if the casuals are pleased we'll get a lot of sales towards the game and that's even if the hardcore doesn't love the game. However if the hardcore is pleased and casuals aren't? We might not be getting another SF for a long long time. The FGC ain't going to keep the series rolling on their own, they're the minority when it comes to these fighting game companies and sales.

That's the main reason Tekkens as packed full of content before they hit console, they want those casuals.

Closing in on 3 years of first party releases. In comparison to what Sony and Microsoft did last-gen, its depressing.

Yeah, remember the awesome lineup of Heavenly Sword, Lair, Haze, Genji: Days of the Blade, Gran Turismo Demo edition and the worst Uncharted in the series that aged terribly. Sony really kicked into high gear with their first party lineup in the first three years of the PS3 era compared to the PS4.

"PS3 has games" was an appropriate meme for the time.

Ok, so...

Back in March 2015, we got this line

This meant the Wii U in March could've been somewhere between 80k and 85k. it wasn't 85k like we assumed. It's literally in the middle of that. 82.5k, and here's why.

Using just a flat 82,500, that means the PS4 and XB1 did 329,679 and 228,846 in March 2015.

Taking cream's post here

adding 338 to that PS4 number (330,017), and then going through the pie, we get PS4 at 330,017 and XB1 at 241,459 or a gap of 88,558.

So to recap.

2015

Code:
PS4 = 330k
XB1= 229k
Wii U = 82.5k

2016

Code:
PS4 = 330k
XB1= 242k
Wii U = 66k
3DS = 171k
And Mystery Vita at [B]12K!!![/B]
Makes sense.

Thank you for always get these math accurate ;)
