Those sold through the Nintendo website always seem to sell out quick.

An official $199 price would do wonder for the Wii U.

Grow that install base yo

$199 official (not just refurbished) would be nice, but I can't see Nintendo going all in on trying to get a massive userbase on the Wii U. Especially not with how anemic it has been, they'd probably be better off just staying put at this point and letting Amiibo/software keep them even/slightly profitable until their next gen consoles where they can try to pretend this gen never happened. If they pushed for everyone to pick up a Wii U at this point, I can't imagine people would be rushing out to buy another new piece of hardware in a couple of years when they had just been convinced to buy a Wii U.

Origins had great legs and outsold (outshipped) the Mass Effect titles before 3 came out (not sure where that ended). Perhaps Inquisition will have similar legs. It's early in the generation.

Being the only retail RPG worth playing on the systems will surely help it keep on selling. Also, I'm sure it will receive plenty of awards that will get people interested in checking it out.

Where have you been seeing that?
All I've been seeing is people saying it still has big releases left. I haven't seen delusional "X will save the Wii U" types of posts.

Lot's of folks said Smash would cause a large increase in hardware sales for WiiU. They also agreed if Smash didn't do it then the WiiU is dead.

Not necessarily.

Xbox One unity bundle was #2 at Amazon for November. PS4 was both #11 and #31.

Since they don't show how they relate to each other, it's quite possible that #11 + #31 is about equal to #2 overall.

It's certainly possible, but I doubt it. Anyways I wouldn't read into them so closely in trying to determine absolute sales numbers. The fact that we can even derive rankings from them on a reliable basis so far is good enough, lol.

Will be interesting to see if MS goes back 399$ for profit (maybe bundle gold) or if they continue to sacrifice profit for mind share.

I don't think they can. Well I guess they always could but it would be such a disaster to do so.

Sapphire selling more than Ruby? Wat.

No Dragon Age makes me sad, but it's still a good game and I do not regret buying it/recommending others to by it.

I disagree with Zelda not being a system seller. Not that it will save the Wii U, but the franchise does sell consoles imo. The Wii launched with one and it worked very well as one of the best selling Zelda's ever. The 3DS started turning around when Ocarina 3D released. Zelda even traditionally releases during the holidays. It's Nintendo's biggest "core" gamer single player franchise. Or it is now that 3D Mario went multiplayer anyway.

At the very least not having a new Zelda for Wii U is a huge gap in the traditional Nintendo franchise lineup for their home consoles. I don't think it's ever taken this long before (3 years if it releases next year), so that's not exactly helping the cause so to speak.

Zelda appeals to the exact same fanbase that picks up every other nintendo first party title. There is literally no one sitting on the sidelines passing up mario kart, smash brothers, mario 3D land, donkey kong, etc and waiting for zelda. Those fans have already bought in.

Zelda will move absolutely no additional consoles over what the wiiU is selling now anyway.

Would be safe to say that PS4's sales momentum never declined from Sep/Oct to Nov, but rather it was XB1's sales momentum that picked up instead?

We didn't really see much drop off at all for the PS4, no. But the sales 'momentum' for the XB1 was all over the place. It exploded at the start of the month with those deals and bundles, and the problems with the big name games selling alongside yet unknown... But then after 2 weeks or so they were mellowing back out. Black Friday brought the usual chaos of both systems, but it wasn't a steady line or even pattern for the XB1.

The point of the crazy deals was to sell a lot of consoles. They sold a lot of consoles. I doubt their shareholder care much about the loss, software has always been where the money is made. How many years was it that Sony sold the PS3 at a significant loss?

Your entitled to your opinion, if the gap was only 10k it's a failure imo. The extent MS tried to win nov, to only close the gap 10k.

I am glad to see so many people understanding profit is King.

So who makes the most profit and thus the real King? Nintendo?

7-10k win is still a win. Microsoft did have amazing deals but its not like the PS4 did not have a deal going into black friday (a bundle with GTA no less). What if Microsoft keeps this price point going forward. These small victories may eventually add up.

I don't think they're going to invest in the R&D for a slimmer console while providing a pricecut of that slimmer console, too.

I could, however, see them releasing a slim at the current price and dropping the OG price. I'm sure they have tons of stock to move anyway.

A change in thus order wouldn't be seen until summer/fall so a $20-$40 drop isn't out of the question since you can expect a PS4 price reduction in the same time frame.

If with all those bundles/deals MS could only achieve 10k over the PS4, one can wonder what could happen to MS if those bundles/deals didn't happen....

people in this thread have been posting Zelda as a reason for big Wii U sales in the future. ive seen quite a few posts saying "zelda" . zelda U wont do anymore than what SM3DW did for the Wii U. as much as people like zelda, i doubt theres a ton of mass shoppers waiting to buy a Wii U just for zelda. itll be a core fan title and nothing more. Smash and MK8 were the Wii U's big guns and they failed. the system will likely never even make it to GameCube lifetime sales numbers.

I'm prepared to wait for ZeldaU. It's one one of the main reasons I bough my launch WiiU.

I don't think they can.

Yeah they're trapped against a wall.

But the other alternative if they didn't gain profit doing it this way (in other words, if the reduced profit margins for the price point it was out was sufficiently offset by the increased amount of unit sales) is just to return to $399.99 and make whatever profit they can off their OK system sales month over month.

But I don't think that way is a real viable alternative, because I believe they are likely to sell less than their $399.99 period month-over-month 2014 average. Consumers now have seen behind the veil and are likely to wait it out for Microsoft's next drastic price slashing.

Unless I am dreaming, I feel like we have seen the Xbox numbers around 6-7.5 million sold to consumers months ago.

MS hasn't given sold through numbers since december last year.

The XB1 is currently at ~4.7M in the US (assuming it sold slightly more than 1M in November). There's absolutely no way it sold 5.3M elsewhere. Not even as much a the US. Most likely 3M, maybe a bit more.

Why would regret at buying it because it didn't enter the top 10 on a tracking chart even enter your mind as something that could be regrettable?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Xbox manages to bloody the nose of god. Took everything they have to do it mind, some absurd prices, but hey, fights are good for us. As long as one side doesn't just win through a lame war of attrition because they have infinite money.

Where have you been seeing that?

At least a couple of one liner "Zelda" replies that over-estimate the effect Zelda has on the market.

This also highlights another issue. Any chance of Microsoft money hatting an exclusive for the Xbox One is going to diminish as the sales gap widens. If they couldn't be competitive this month, and winning by 10k isn't competitive, it's winning by a margin of error - they will have an insane time convincing any third parties their console is a viable permanently home.

I say this a guy who just bought an Xbox One and PS4 within the same week for myself personally.

I want MS to be successful, I really do. But as someone who is a single console owner, and as someone who has ps4 as that console, I view a big gap as good.

MS has more money that Sony and has a history of throwing that money around to the detriment of playstation owners. I would prefer that 3rd parties look at any deal with ms as a 'no thank you' and MS uses that money to develop their own games. Less rise of the tomb raider type situations is a plus in my book. Sales parity given the current set of conditions hopefully discourages stuff like that further...

At the rate they're going, they finally outsell Sony in about 10-20 years.

Heshinsi

"playing" dumb? unpossible
There's no way it's that.

Yes there is. The X1 is on life support outside of the UK and the US. You do know that right? If we know what the console has sold in the US so far, it's not hard to understand that it's not doing the same amount of sales outside that region as well.

I thought the PS4 would still win. I was wrong.

I see the thread is full of ridiculous doom and gloom. LOL, definitely an NPD thread.

Both companies sold well. I'm sure Microsoft is more than happy, as is Sony. No one is screwed or doomed. Good 'ol hyperbole.

I doubt ms is happy with a 10k Win when they were significantly cheaper in there own country....

I don't think they can afford to keep the price point there.

Ami, I told you in the Twitch chat that this month would be all over the place, eh? Looks like I was right, haha.

lmao! literally everytime the Wii U underperforms with a new game, Nintendo fans start saying "______" will save the Wii U. its not going to be saved. Skyward Sword only sold around 3.5 million copies and that was on the Wii which had an install base of 100k+. Zelda U will be lucky to get close to 1.5 million units imo. the system is dead. as great as Zelda U looks, no way people buy a Wii U en mass unless the Wii U's price is dropped to $199 or lower. argue all you want about the value of the sytem but clearly its current MSRP is doing the system little favors, especially when retailers had PS4's and Xbox One's for around $300 during November.

I agree that people have blind faith in the WiiU but I don't see Zelda having much problem reaching 1.5 million unites next year. Only deep price cuts are gonna move units and they simply don't have games releasing on their system so there is little point to deep cuts since it won't spur software sales.
