Sony preferring profit over market share yet again
Oh you gif*
Sony preferring profit over market share yet again
Best Buy has a $50 gift card with PS4 consoles this week, so effectively the same price. The gap probably won't be that big if the price goes back up to $350 tomorrow.
Noobie, hourly charts are great for comparison of a particular hour, and that's about it. Amazon also apparently ended their sale price a day early, on the biggest shopping day of the year (according to the data), which seems really weird to me.
I don't think there's much concern in terms of misreading, the two that specifically asked about it are both active salesGAF folks and look for trend data, which is why I clarified more specifically that I'd have to see if I could check for actual weekly/daily numbers from last year if I have the time today/this week. Server may be more distinctly opposed to MS in terms of policies, but he always wants actual data to back up any trends or discussions he's looking at, and Welfare is not one to throw shit around for no reason.
That's why I would feel that unless something drastic changes, I'd expect to see December largely won for the PS4, even with another 10 days left. Because Christmas Eve proper is not a great day for us, usually, other than panic mode customers, and most of the employees don't have their heart in it anyway (We're fucking exhausted! Haha), and after Christmas comes the quick burst of sales from gift cards and such, then it drops pretty hard, and New Years Eve is often very quiet, people don't go all out for watching the ball drop, haha.
I feel like my tag should be linked in every NPD op and changed to "Hourly Charts are bad mmk." Then again I doubt it would make any difference. Trying to stem the tide of hourly posts is akin to plugging the dam with ones finger. Shits gonna break through regardless. Just wish we didn't have to perpetually repeat ourselves like a damn broken record.
Anyone who regularly participated in sales discussion knows this. Those claiming otherwise are just attempting to tend to their own bruised egos because it's apparently a personal affront when many seem to agree that your preferred brand isn't selling as much as the competition. These too shall pass once prime time season is behind us.
At this point it seems like a sure thing that PS4 will lead the pack. The only question is by how much. I personally was pretty unimpressed with the new Star Wars movie so I was skeptical of the impact it would have on the HW sales but apparently I'm in the small minority when it comes to the movie. Most seem to have loved it and it does seem to have had a very large impact on sales when coupled with the promotional price drop.
I'm curious to see how many still feel the same way about the film after the hype and nostalgia begins to fade. I don't think it will be remembered as fondly as the response would lead many to believe but I digress. In conclusion nostalgia is a helluva drug and clearly I underestimated its sway.
I'm not sure I've ever mentioned, but I write in my free time that isn't anime or gaming related, and I'm in the editing stages of a novel manuscript, so I'm pretty critical of a lot of fiction, and movies in particular, since the medium has to be cohesive with the characterization within a shorter period of time.
I loved the Force Awakens, and I felt like it made up for the Prequels in every way. It hit many of the same story beats as New Hope/Empire, but in ways that felt fresh for its characters and themes, as well as having the new aspect of reintroducing us to old friends that tie in the core of the mythos of the whole setting. And that's coming from someone who knew several of the major events would happen based on predicting the thematic elements and character tropes as they were displayed. I was almost never 'surprised' by the movie, because of my experience writing, but the methodology used to bring those pieces together, with the acting, effects, and how the story beats were paced, did an excellent job, and I'm excited about the new films in the future.
And from talking with customers who have seen it, it brings back the joy of the original trilogy, it feels wondrous again, and parents are showing their kids and excited about it. Universal appeal is I think a good way to phrase it. It doesn't have any of the ham-fisted crap that Lucas put into Episode 1, I feel.
If this was aimed at me, you just couldn't be more wrong.Anyone who regularly participated in sales discussion knows this. Those claiming otherwise are just attempting to tend to their own bruised egos because it's apparently a personal affront when many seem to agree that your preferred brand isn't selling as much as the competition. And hourly charts are always used for confirmation bias. Just pick the hour what helps with your opinion.
It's over.Amazon Hourly Chart

Sony preferring profit over market share yet again
Aye, but gven the PS4 is available most pther places, even online, that just means the monthly might not quite reflect the actual (mind the) GAP... And Amazon is pretty much our only source, as flawed as it is.Shame the US Amazon PS4 stock got depleted a almost a week ago, but monthly rankings will not get affected much.
The age of Sony is officially done.
I'm pretty sure Sony will announce ( if the sales are good ) how many PS4's are sold WW during Holiday in early January like this year

Well, Kaz needs something to boast about on the CES stage aside from sensors.
This shouldn't even be a surprise. The Gears of War brand is a lot more recognized and beloved than Star Wars.Amazon Hourly Chart

You know what that would mean, right? +8m shipped this quarter
I thought with some luck, Sony might be able to get the gap just over 1m before going into 2016 but if I'm into interpreting Abdiel and Obli's posts correctly, we might be looking at a 1.35m gap - absolutely terrific results from an otherwise complacent company.
That's my loose interpretation anyway.
It's not too late for Sony wake up & realize the true metric of success.Wrong company
It's a mad world. This shouldn't even be a surprise. The Gears of War brand is a lot more recognized and beloved than Star Wars.
Hourly charts are way too small of a sample to derive anything from. Also the PS4 went out of stock.Amazon Hourly Chart

Isn't January generally weak. I guess it will be very deflated if they are not establishing 299 as the price for at least the basic console without game.I'm curious to see how january will be after all these temporary price drops and deals in november/december.
You can expect the "console gaming is dead" crowd to come out of the woods and be shocked at the big drop in sales!!I'm curious to see how january will be after all these temporary price drops and deals in november/december.
I'm guessing that will be Sony's strategy, at least. Going back to $350 is a bad idea, but not getting NDC free anymore shouldn't hurt sales too much, especially if they mark the game down too. Profitability should be fairly similar too, especially compared to the SW and BLOPS bundles at $350.Isn't January generally weak. I guess it will be very deflated if they are not establishing 299 as the price for at least the basic console without game.
Basically, this will be the recurring theme until next holiday. You can expect the "console gaming is dead" crowd to come out of the woods and be shocked at the big drop in sales!!

Remember :I wonder if Sony will pull an MS and do a real price drop to 299 early next year, though I imagine they won't so that the price drop for the inevitable slim model next year is bigger.
Them Battlefront bundles are gonna be a difficult item to find post Christmas unless Sony gets to shipping some more
I think they'll ship them as long as TFA is in cinemas.
So you prefer selling 10 extra units through special promos in a whole year then selling 20 extra units every month through new low price. I don't believe thats a very good strategy.Remember :
If you drop the price to 299, what will you do for special promos?
It's always good to have some room for timed promos.
A $300 PS4 likely won't need much in the way of promotion, but there's always free games, Plus subs, PSN/retailer credit, etc.Remember :
If you drop the price to 299, what will you do for special promos?
