I bought my PS4 at launch. Somebody who buys the PS4 now will get it for just 50$ less. I have enjoyed a PS4 for 2 years for 50$. It's great for us who got it at launch, but for the people that are waiting for a reasonable price to jump in, this is peanuts. These people might never jump in.
No shit this generation seems like it's going to be frontloaded. At this rate the PS4 could still be 300$ in 2018, when it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that Xbox two could launch at 450 with specs that blow it out of the water.

The power of brands are mighty.
It's far more difficult to elevate new IPs to high heavens than it is to salvage popular IPs that hit some roadblocks on previous releases.
Brand cache will always be an anchor that protects IPs to a certain extent, especially those with a feverish fanbase like Halo. An 80-90% decline in less than 4 years is unlikely.
It's not even damage control. They aren't lying and they took a humble route.

If you don't count the Kinect unbundling as a pricedrop, it has technically only dropped $50 in two years as well...
IDK, maybe they expect this to be another long generation, and so they are taking it slow with price drops...
ms pr provides a nice brain exercise. sony's isn't a very good game.
