I think people are seriously undervaluing digital sales for halo...used to be a small part of the sales of a game but I think with preloading and midnight unlock games like halo probably have as much as 50-60 percent of their sales there
NPD George is creamsugar...

The Halo 5 sales are very poor. I think Halo 4 and MCC really hurt the franchise. Doesn't help that COD and BF are both releasing right around it too. Now it's just another big game. It's more in the Uncharted category. It's still a huge exclusive, but it's no cultural event anymore. The sales of Halo 5 and AC show me too that people are ready for some new IPs. Especially when you compare them to how well Watch Dogs and Destiny have done.
Haha, yeah this is a sales thread where we are all having an intellectual high brow discussion about how software and hardware revenue is affecting the hobby we all love and what kind of impact this will have moving forward. That's what I'm getting by reading this thread . . .
Such enlightenment such insight.
There is no persecution complex, I'm just calling it how I see it. Maybe I'm not reading it the same way as some of you
What a time to be alive.
After so much time in the cave, staring at shadows, NeoGAF is now free to stare at the light of truth. It will burn your eyes at first, and you may want to return to the comfort of the cave. But fear not! Your eyes will slowly adjust to the sun and you will never again wish to return to the darkness.
Still struggling to come up with $400 million, but that's MS PR for you.
Seriously, if you have issues with sales threads, don't come in. That's what this is for. For discussion and speculation based on trends and performance. If a major franchise fails to live up to previous expectations, that's a source of discussion, so acting like people are just trying to use it to bask ms or 343 is a strawman.
Please stop with the passive aggressive crap. If you see someone being a blatant troll bashing on it, pm a mod or call them out, rather than just commenting in some super generalizing way.
He's gonna come back more furious than season 1 Beyblade with that spin!Any leeh comments yet?
Perform better in EU how ?
MS sales are not that great over there and Halo always got most of it sales from USA.
Side-question: do we have sales figures for Halo MCC?
Black Friday leaksI'd be interested to hear some theories as to why no one bought games or consoles in October.
Any leeh comments yet?
Just physical?
Yep, don't put numbers in a graph which you can't compare. He should of just listed the numbers and the differences between them.
I'm in agreement, I just think it's poor form to put it in a graph, considering people won't even know this because it's listed in French. Just those additions and with digital sales, it makes it look not as bleak, but yeah, damn that's a decline if I've seen one.
I'd say this isn't with the quality of the game, more so the condition of the market.
Lets put some context on the digital angle, I'm just starting up. So, if we're going by 30% digital, it means it sold 1,357,142 copies in it's first week.
That graph is week 1, and then counter in the 78% drop the second week means it sold 298,571 in it's second week. For guesstimates sake, keep that number for the weeks after that, which means it sold a total of 2,252,855 copies in the full month.
Considering the graph maxes at 3 weeks sales, that number is still a chunk underneath the rest of the titles, even with 1 week more of sales.
What's wrong with that?
Even with digital sales the numbers and an extra week, the numbers are still way below the rest. I edited that in. Does that make it better now?
What is the usual drop weekly? So 78% on the second week, what drop for the 3rd and the 4th?
Even with those week 3 & 4 over guesses, the numbers are still way off the other entries with an extra week of sales. It makes it look worse.
If you consider what I'm actually saying, it makes it look worse. You factor in digital and a full months worth of sales, and it still falls short of previous numbers by a mil.
Does anyone know the sales numbers for CoD?
Because it gives you the full picture on numbers? Albeit with split numbers pulled out of thin air. That graph makes the situation seem a lot more bleak than what it is. With the saturation of the FPS market and with the decline seen in franchises like CoD, you can take it whatever way you want to.
Of course, but then it's a problem looking at a graph which is incomplete as well. You can't put data in a graph and compare against numbers which include all the sale mediums, with one column which doesn't.
No, but it's a gauge of what it did for the full month, which is worse than 3 weeks of the past titles.
Why'd you have to try and be a smart arse? I stated in my previous posts that even with guesstimate 4 week sales, it still sold a lot less than the past 3 mainline titles. There's nothing wrong with trying to fill in the gaps.
Do we have any numbers for week 1 sales of CoD?
Feel free to do your own calculations.
I feel it's quite important to gauge this against the same numbers for other games like BF and CoD. It'd be interesting to see the sales numbers between them on Xbox compared to Halo.

I'd be interested to hear some theories as to why no one bought games or consoles in October.
Now we need creamsugar to know the numbers for the japanese games bomba and splits for multiplat tittles.
Maybe Uncharted 1, Uncharted 3 sold about as well as any previous Halo game, why do people keep repeating that?
I'd be interested to hear some theories as to why no one bought games or consoles in October.
Halo would have to set a new precedent in which they sale around 30-40% more (give or take) than the current average of digital sales.
I mean... nothing's impossible, but what do you think?
this is all to crazy
man..

Sold more than 660k in november 2014.

Hi there, travisbickle. Hope you're doing well.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'taking one to the knee,' but I would like to tell you that in the October 2015 U.S. Games Industry Sales NPD Report, Ubisoft's new Console Software SKU and best-selling October 2015 title 'Assassin's Creed Syndicate,' sold 391K units.
This is down significantly from the previous 'Assassin's Creed Unity,' but please keep in mind that the previous title launched in the Holiday Season (November 11th, 2014) and it was included as part of a prominent Xbox One bundle.
Perhaps a more apt comparison is to Ubisoft's 2013 iteration 'Assassin's Creed: Black Flag,' which released on October 29th, 2013.
In the October 2013 U.S. Games Industry report, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag sold 620K units in five days on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 the month before 'next-gen' launched, while in the November 2013 Report when the titles launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the title sold 1.2 million units.
It is unlikely that Assassin's Creed Syndicate will leach the lofty heights of its predecessors.
Am I the only person who thinks it's strange to put an (s) at the end of Million when you specify a number in front of it??
I see this all the time, and have no idea why it bothers me.
"They sold 15 Million" looks right to me.
"They sold Millions" looks right to me.
"They sold 15 Millions" just looks and sounds strange. Why do you need the "s"?
Haha, I know it's a bit OT...but why does it annoy me...I suppose it's right or correct grammar either way? I see a lot of people say that, but then many don't. We were never taught to put an "s" on numbers if the actual amount comes before it.
They?
You're right... maybe more like 1.55-1.65 million including digital.
If Halo5 number is legit then I think it is an evidence bad reception of a franchise affects the sequel's sales potential a lot.
I'd be interested to hear some theories as to why no one bought games or consoles in October.
It's fine to use they when you don't want to give gender. They?
Just my opinion I thought the numbers we had were that up to 30% is digital...i'm just going 20% higher
This game isn't the zeitgeist that halo 3 was and it has a much smaller install base than reach or halo 4 enjoyed. Interesting to see how sales stand at the end of the year after black Friday and Holidays
but we've also got to take count of the Xbox One installed base, which is smaller than the 360's when Halo 3 and company came out,
Isn't Halo 4 at almost 12 million sales to Uncharted 3's 7 million? But that was last gen. Uncharted 4 will probably sell gangbusters. But you never know these days.

This is like an NPD month where everyone is a loser but Halo 5 the biggest.
