going through the archive is making me whince. I never really gave it thought before (mainly since I never bookmarked the comic to begin with, but would occasionally check when a certain gaming blog would show poll results for any particular week of webcomics), but the guy really does suck.
Well, that might be too harsh for someone I've never met.
He's just not good. I mean, seriously, Yahtzee is right.
It was one thing when Fred Gallagher took the reigns of writing Megatokyo, and people asked where the punchline was for the first comic that was nothing but Piro being emo, its another with CAD. I mean, yeah, I get that he's trying to turn the comic into a "comic about gamers" or something now, based on what I managed to glean off of his news rant, but why now? Is it because he realized he sucks at telling jokes? Because he clearly likes to write a lot of text in word bubbles? Is it going to be heavy handed storytelling about the characters now? Characters no one really cares about? The comic's always been written off as a Penny-Arcade rip off, as one of the many rip offs that had sprung off of Penny-Arcade's archaic beginnings. What's sad is that these rip offs still hold onto these crusty pieces of what remains of Penny-Arcade years 1-3. They have absolutely zero growth in art diversity, almost as if time has been frozen.
Or maybe this is expected of webcomics nowadays, for them to just be shit. All of these comics I bookmarked and used to read as a tween are now dull and pointless, and I now find these new gems in the massive payload of dirt that is the internet, such as xkcd, perry bible fellowship, bee power, castle vidcons, and eegra.
Its a new age of webcomics, and there is no country for old men (with the exception of Penny-Arcade and Megatokyo, I suppose)
