Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Wasn't trying to talk down to anyone, I just think it's absurd that people are ignoring performance numbers in favor of looks on a product that is defined and made valuable almost exclusively by its performance. It's like complaining the newest, fastest CPU is irrelevant because they used the wrong color grey.

No offense taken - all good.

The looks over performance crowd is very sizable.

The iPhone is still a thing ;)

For someone who has zero plans to overclock, and will be gaming primarily on a 1080p TV, is there any benefit to holding out for the aftermarket cards? Will the small speed boosts be worthwhile?

So the first non-FE card is already listed with a price in Germany.

664.90 € for the EVGA 1080 with ACX 3.0 HSF. That's despite FE's all being in the 780 € range.

What do the "no non-FE's / no cheaper partner cards in 2016" people say now?

Why'd you decide to go FE instead of wait for the other cooling options?

Not OP, but I went with FE because I'm slapping a waterblock on it anyways. Current EK blocks only fit reference PCBs, with no prediction thus far of when custom PCB blocks will land, so, best to be safe than sorry.

You can still downsample so waiting a couple of weeks and paying less money for a superior card seems like a no brainer.

Just got an email back from Overclockers, the MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X card dimensions are 279 x 140 x 42 mm. Well within range for my setup.

Hold me back someone, please.

Wait what? Where?

EVGA cards are the smallest.

Typically yes. They maintain 10.5 length where very few, if any other do. The 970 and 980s they even had 9.5 inch cards.

I don't really buy that nearly 6" height figure on the SC. The ftw visibly looks wider. Ideal card will be an SSC with better power delivery but maintains small size. Would like to put one in a hadron air ITX case, where 10.5 is pretty much the absolute limit without have to start cutting the case. 6 inches is too wide/tall as well, or it might just barely squeeze in with the card up against the glass lol.

Anyone who ordered from Fry's earlier in the week currently have their order status as "Backordered"?

Sucks because previously it said the card would be delivered today.

Went to MicroCenter, apparently they had a bunch, but I was unaware they opened at 9 instead of 10. So, by 9:30 they'd sold out. It was an impulse buy anyway, I'll wait for the 1080ti.

So I did get an order in for an MSI 1080 FE. However i somewhat feel a bit ripped off.

Here are a bunch of other 3rd party cards launching at lower prices and better spec. I'm thinking of returning my FE as soon as I get it tbh. =/

Wait who's doing this? The EVGA does look butt ugly but I would still take that over the shit performance FE.

Damn was trying to order the EVGA FTW had it in my cart about to check out but had to create an account by the time I finished that the site has stopped working completely.

Yeah, when I looked a little while ago, both Chicago stores had them all at 10+ in stock, now they are all sold out. Crazy shit.

I had the same exact thing happen to me, I was so close! Just want to get this pre order in so I can go about my day.

Nobody here, I was venturing onto the Facebook pages of the 3rd party manufacturers. I don't recommend doing that. In fact it's probably a bad idea in regards to anything.

I tried my best to build a pretty PC (my first one)

I think a FE will look great in there ;)

If we were to take NeoGAF as a sample of PC gaming setups, one would assume everyone out there owns a 4K gaming display lol.

This thing is overkill for current games at 1440p ... why the hurry?

I wouldn't say it's overkill for a lot of 1440p or even 1080p people if they have 144hz.

Yeah that was ridiculous talk. The AIBs love money.

No it is not.

You're forgetting that >60hz monitors exist and are quite popular.

It's just about right for 1440p :p

In addition to these points, a new GPU is almost never overkill, it always gets taken advantage of eventually. As for why the hurry, I am still on 670s, been waiting on Pascal to drop forever to upgrade.

I have a 1440p monitor and for high-end games (like TW3) a 1080 seems just right for that resolution if you want all the bells and whistles.

I'm really curious about non-FE 1080 reviews now, I wonder if any of them will hold 2GHz with acceptable temperatures/noise.

Not to mention that people like to downsample for better image quality if they can afford to do so.

There's simply no such thing as "overkill."

The great thing about a very powerful card and only 1080p is that you can downsample a basically maxed out game and still maintain 60fps.

Or if you are playing at 120+Hz you need all the power you can get to maintain that high fps.
